Jackie McDougall - 87 yrs Ronald 'Ron' French Born In: Sydney Born: January 4th, 1938 Passed in: Whitney Pier Passed on: November 6th, 2013 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our dad, Ronald 'Ron' French on Wednesday, Nov. 6, 2013, at home, surrounded by his loved ones. Born in Sydney, on Jan. 4, 1938, dad was the son of the late Cecil and Evelyn (Lively) French. Ron was always there to lend a hand to anyone. He loved the sport of fishing but never caught a fish and loved to take special walks at Dominion beach. Ron became well known as the candy man to many of his friends. Ron will be lovingly remembered by his companion, Dianne Manning; son, Ron (Sandra); daughter, Joanne (Michael) Ling; grandchildren, Jessica, Kevin and Bryan French. Ron is also survived by his siblings, Peggy (Eric) Brophy, Beverly (Elmer) Muise, Germaine (Ken) McLeod, Debbie (Jack) Lessie and David (Mary) French; sister-in-law, Annette; as well as several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, dad was predeceased by his wife, Sylvia (Candelora); brothers, Johnnie, Bobby, Terry and Eddie; brother-in-law, Harry Burt, in addition his mother and father-in-law, Lucy and James Candelora. Funeral service to celebrate the life of Ronald 'Ron' French will be held at the Pier Community Funeral Home, All Faith Chapel, Whitney Pier, 1092 Victoria Rd. (entrance on Church Street) on Saturday, Nov. 9, 2013, at 11 a.m. with Fr. Paul Murphy officiating. Light refreshments will be served in the funeral home reception area following the service. Interment will take place in Resurrection Cemetery, Sydney Forks. Donations in memory of Ron may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or charity of one's choice. Shirley MacDonald Born In: Sydney Passed in: Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada Passed on: November 5th, 2013 It is with heartfelt sadness that we, the family, announce the passing of Shirley Ann MacDonald on Tuesday, Nov. 5, 2013 at QEII, Halifax. Born in Sydney, N.S., Shirley was the daughter of the late Alex T. and Mary Ann (MacLeod) MacDonald. Shirley graduated from the Sydney City Hospital of Nursing as an R.N. She spent a great deal of time both working and volunteering at the Alderwood Rest Home in Baddeck. She was also involved with the Baddeck Hospice. Shirley loved entertaining, her bridge club and hosting her annual nurses' reunions. Shirley is survived by her daughter, Meredith (Brian) Currie, Halifax and son, Dale (Angela) MacDonald, Fox Creek, Alta. She is also survived by her precious grandsons, Bronson and Reese Currie. Besides her parents, Shirley was predeceased by her loving husband of 53 years, Wendell Blair MacDonald and a daughter, Wendy. A memorial celebration for both Shirley and Wendell will be celebrated in Baddeck at a later date. Donations in memory of Shirley may be made to a charity of choice. Jackie McDougall Born In: Glace Bay Passed in: Wilmington Passed on: October 28th, 2013 It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Jackie on Oct. 28, 2013, at the Wilmington Health Care Centre. Born in Glace Bay, she was the daughter of the late Vincent (Felicitas) McVarish-McInnis, MacKay's Corner. Jackie and her husband moved to Massachusetts in 1951 making numerous trips back to Cape Breton over the years. She is survived by two sons, Gary and Blaise and was a loving Nan to four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; sister, Jo McInnis; brothers-in-law, Don Hollohan and Don McDonald. Predeceased by her husband, Stephen; four sisters, three brothers and a sister-in-law. Many thanks to friends, relatives and neighbours for remembering Jackie with mass cards and memorial donations. Jackie was born in Glace Bay, Nova Scotia, Canada on June 23, 1926, and was the beloved daughter of the late Vincent and Felicitas (McVarish) McInnis. Jackie married Stephen J. McDougall in 1947 and the couple moved to the United States in 1951. They settled in Medford, MA, where they raised their two sons. Jackie and Steve moved to Wilmington, MA in 1966, but she never forgot her roots in Canada and would make several trips "down home" over the years. Jackie was very family oriented; she was a devoted mother and a loving grandmother. Jackie loved to clean, cook and bake for her family and her house was always meticulous. Jackie cherished every moment spent with her grandchildren, whether it was taking long walks, attending school or sporting events, or following her grandson Scott's hockey team; Jackie was always there with a smile to root them on. Jackie was a hard worker, for many years she worked in the various cafeterias for the Wilmington School Department and was always helping out the kids by giving them "little extras" or covering the cost of their school lunch if they couldn't afford it. She just loved the kids. Jackie was an avid sports fan; she enjoyed watching the Red Sox and Bruins with her family. Jackie will be fondly remembered as kind, caring, and most of all giving of herself to others. She was wonderful to her family and friends who will miss her dearly. Jackie was the beloved wife of the late Stephen J. McDougall, devoted mother of Gary McDougall of Wilmington and Blaise McDougall and his wife Theresa of New Hampshire, the loving "Nam" of Scott McDougall, Shannon McDougall, Meghan McDougall, Darby Ranger and her husband Michael, "Great-Nam" of Mia and Alaina McDougall and Kadence Ranger. Dear sister of Jo McInnis of Canada, the late Inez Hollohan, Phyllis McDonald, Ursula McInnis, Michael McInnis, Ted McInnis, and Vincent McInnis, sister-in-law of Don Hollohan and Donald McDonald.
