Born in North Sydney, Paula was a daughter of the late Harold and Evelyn (Gillam) Henry. Paula is survived by her husband, Richard MacDonald; sons, Shawn (Angela), Paul (Anna), both of Sydney Mines, Shane (Lori Frizzel), Truro; daughters, Shawna MacDonald, at home, Shannon (Roger) Herridge, Sydney Mines, also her; 12 grandchildren; her sisters, Marion (Gary) MacNeil, New Waterford, Patsy Stamper, Scotch Lake; her brother,Gordon Henry. Visitation for Paula will be held 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesday in the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Patrick O'Neill officiating. Burial will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, North Sydney. Online condolences may be sent to www.wjdooley.com Thomas Wilfred 'Duddie' Odo Passed in: New Waterford Passed on: November 23rd, 2013 84, New Waterford It is with great sadness the family announce the passing of Duddie Odo on Nov. 23, 2013, at the Glace Bay Hospital surrounded by his family. Born in Inverness, he was the son of the late John and Tilly (Cormier) Odo. Duddie was a coal miner having had worked in colleries 18, 16, 12 and Lingan mine and he had a great love for horses. He is survived by sons, John (Patricia), Dave (Darlene), Bobby, William (Susan) and Tommy (Shannon); stepchildren, Billy (Winnie), Brian, Jimmy, Ronnie, Karen (Denzel) and Donna; daughters-in-law, Evelyn and Myrna; 24 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family. Besides his parents, he was also predeceased by brothers, Buddy, Vince, Hubert, John Joe, Willie George, Murdock and Simon and sister, Mary Catherine. He was also predeceased by his first wife, Theresa (Gillis), sons, Murdock and Wilfred and grandson, John Wilfred Odo, his second wife, Eileen (Cadden), daughter, Theresa in infancy and stepson Joey. There will be no visitation as cremation has taken place. A chapel service in the funeral home will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 26, 2013, at 11 a.m. with Fr. Ray Huntley officiating. Interment in St. Agnes Cemetery followed by a reception in the parish hall, Convent Street. All are welcome to attend. Daniel Angus Currie Born In: MacAdams Lake Born: May 30th, 1926 Passed in: Leitches Creek Passed on: November 23rd, 2013 It is with great sorrow that we, the families, announce the sudden passing of our loving husband, devoted father, adoring grandfather and caring brother, Daniel Angus Currie, 87, a resident of Leitches Creek, on Saturday, Nov. 23, 2013, at the Northside General Hospital, North Sydney. Dan Angus was born at MacAdam's Lake, on May 30, 1926, he was a son of the late Dougal and Effie Belle (Harrietha) Currie. He was a hard worker, who spent many years working at the open hearth at the Sydney Steel Plant as well as delivering mail for Canada Post to the surrounding communities. He married the love of his life Margaret 'Peggy' MacLean on Aug. 26, 1958. Together, they had five wonderful children, Theresa (Steve), Ann (PJ), Frances (Daniel), Daniel (Monica) and Bernadette (Adrian) and are now surrounded by 11 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. He was a true storyteller and entertainer. He was always quick with a joke or a story and seemed to have one for any and every occasion. In addition to his children and grandchildren, Dan Angus is also survived by his loving siblings, Mary Pickup, Angus Joe (Theresa) Currie, Theresa MacLean, Michael (Rhodena) Currie, Jim (Shirley) Currie, John L. (Lizzie) Currie, Cecilia (Ray) Gosbee and Caddie (Archie) Fraser. Besides his loving parents, Dan was predeceased by his brother, Francis 'Buddy' Currie, his three sisters, Katie Mae Currie, Flora Jane (Claude) MacMullin and Tennie (Michael) MacInnis, his four brothers-in-law, Fosh Pickup, Tom MacLean, John W. and Sandy MacLean, and his two sisters-in-law, Sally Currie and Yvonne MacLean. Visitation for Dan Angus Currie will be 2-4 and 7-9 p.m., Tuesday in the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney. A funeral mass will be celebrated 1 p.m., Wednesday at St. Barra Church, Christmas Island, with Rev. Bernie MacDonald officiating. Burial will follow in the Parish Cemetery. John Michael 'Mick' MacInnis Born In: Sydney Passed in: Sydney Passed on: November 22nd, 2013 It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our dear husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend Mick MacInnis, on Friday, Nov. 22, 2013, at the Harbourstone Enhanced Care Facility. Born in Sydney, he was the son of the late John and Margaret (Walsh) MacInnis. He was employed with Pepsi until his retirement. He will be missed by all who knew him. Born in North Sydney, he was the son of the late Walter and Gladys (Rose) Matthews. He is survived by his son, Norman, Alberta; daughters, Blanche, Ontario, Colleen (Roy) Symes, Sydney Mines; Lynn (Mike) Davidson, New Brunswick, Tammy, Ontario; brother, Gilbert (Cathy), North Sydney; and his only sister, whom he loved dearly, Blanche (Kevin) Headley (MacAulay), Glace Bay. He is also survived by grandchildren, Erica, Robert, Billy, Areol, Megan, Hilarie, Josh, Dylan, Ryan, Savanna and Dawson; great-grandchildren, Seth, Casey, Thomas, Carrissa Betty Mae and Aiden; many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his wife and best friend of 46 years, Betty Mae (Anderson), his sons, Robert Dawson and infant, Brian Louis, brothers, David (Marg), Philip (Judy) and infant brother, Eldon. Bobby's passion for music and motorcycles was known by all who knew and loved him. In keeping with Bobby's wishes, there will be no visitation. A memorial service to celebrate his life will take place at Wilson United Church, Florence at 10 a.m., Wednesday, Nov. 27, 2013. Melvin McLean Born In: Glace Bay Passed in: Glace Bay Passed on: November 21st, 2013 It is with saddened hearts that we announce the sudden death of Melvin Mclean at home on Nov. 21, 2013. Born in Glace Bay, he was the son of the late Alex and Elizabeth (Winstanley) McLean. Melvin worked for Devco for many years as a coal hauler, he was also president of the Hub Club. He is survived by his loving wife, Nancy and his daughter, Christa. He will be greatly missed by his brothers, Albert (Lois) and Robert (Joanie); his sisters, Sis, Jean and Tootsie (Dave); brothers-in-law, Peter, Garth (Kilby) Kipping; daughter-in-law, Sonya; two precious grandchildren, Jeremy and Haley. He was predeceased by his only son, Robert, brothers, Willie, Joseph and sister, Beatrice. Melvin will be deeply missed by his many friends and family, especially by his good friend Wayne Eagles. Melvin was the type of person who would give you the shirt off his back. He would always make you laugh while in his presence. Cremation has taken place. John 'Jack' Dean Born In: Birch Grove Passed in: Glace Bay Passed on: November 20th, 2013 It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of John 'Jack' Dean on Wednesday, Nov. 20, 2013, at home at age 80. Jack was born in Birch Grove the son of John and Florence (Earle) Dean. He was predeceased by three bothers, six sisters, three half brothers and two grandchildren. Jack is survived by his wife, best friend and soul mate of 58 year, Evelyn (Brufatto) Dean; his daughter, Marion (Kevin) MacDougall of Calgary, Alta.; his three sons, Stephen (Cindy) Dean, Clyde (Nancy) Dean of Glace Bay, Derrick (Gloria) Dean of Lloydminster, Alta.; his sister, Ann McLeod and brother, Donald Dean of Glace Bay; 12 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Jack was a coal miner for 32 years and was know for his keen sense of humour and his storytelling. He will be sadly missed by his Thursday night dart buddies. At Jack's request, cremation has taken place. The funeral service will be held at Curry's Funeral Home, 775 Main St., Glace Bay, with visitation from 12-2 p.m. Service will take place at 2 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 26. The Rev.
