He was the son of the late Luther and Ruth (Holley) Pushie. Roy was a member of MacKay Lodge Masons and Shriners. Roy is survived by his wife of 63 years, Frances; twin sister, Louise Mann, sister, Carol Gibson; son, Brent (wife Jean), their children, Kim, Kelly, Krista, great-grandchildren, Lexie, Brett, Devin and Parker; son, Mark (wife Sue), their children, Jennie, Josh, great-grandchild, Sophie; daughter, Judy (husband, Dave), their children, Keith, Matthew; son, James (wife Michelle), their children, Jacklyn and Jocelyn. Mary Cecilia Kelly Born In: Dominion Passed in: Glace Bay Passed on: November 19th, 2013 It is with heartfelt sadness that we announce the passing of our loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend. Mary Cecilia Kelly, 86, formerly of Dominion, a resident of Victoria Haven Nursing Home, Glace Bay, passed away peacefully with her family at her side on Tuesday, Nov. 19, 2013, at Glace Bay General Hospital. Born in Dominion, Mary was the daughter of the late John and Isabell (Campbell) McIntyre. Mary was a member of St. Eugene parish, Dominion. Mary was employed at the Glace Bay Community Hospital before retiring after many years of service. Mary had a great love of music and loved to dance. During her later years, while a resident at Victoria Haven, she would often be seen doing a turn on the dance floor during performances by the "Four Corners" or sitting in the lobby listening and singing along to Daniel O'Donnell. Mary loved to participate in any festivities going on at Victoria Haven and will be sadly missed by the many friends she made there. Mary will also be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by her children, Blair (Wendy), Kevin (Leona) Bernie (Carol) McIntyre and her cherished grandchildren, Jonathan, Nicole, Chelsea, Connor, Adelle, Kelly, Rob, Sherry and Melanie, several great-grandchildren, many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends; her sisters, Colista Poirier,Dominion, Annie Roper, Bridgeport, Lena Sweeney, Gardiner Mines. Wilfred Joseph Crummey Born In: New Waterford Passed in: New Waterford Passed on: November 17th, 2013 It is with broken hearts that we the family sadly announce the passing of our father, brother, grandfather and great-grandfather, Wilfred Joseph Crummey, on Nov. 17, 2013, at the New Waterford Consolidated Hospital. Born in New Waterford, he was the son of the late Eli and Mary (Dalton) Crummey. He enjoyed the company of his family and enjoyed going for breakfast with his grandson Derek and for drives around town. He would often park out at the cove and watch the boats. Big in stature and even bigger in personality, he wasn't someone you would meet and soon forget. He was a hardworking man his whole life. He was a coal miner in the #12 mine. He is survived by his daughters, Lorraine (Joe) Martell, Sydney, Marilyn (Ricky) Campbell, Lingan; son, Wilfred Crummey, Ontario; sisters, Leona Miller, Mary (Willie) Hurley, Irene 'Rene' MacDonald, Joan (Ray) Connell; grandchildren, Lisa Crummey, Kimberley, Derek and Gordie; great-grandchildren Olivia, Mya, Jorden, Brenden, Kegan, Emma and Marcus and Dreyden Crummey. He was especially proud of the newest addition of the family, great-grandson Dreyden Eli Crummey, who was named after his father Eli Crummey. Christopher Hayes Born In: Halifax, Canada Born: May 23rd, 1951 Passed in: Sydney With sadness we announce the untimely death of Christopher Hayes, our husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend. A lifelong journalist and long-time reporter and editor at the Cape Breton Post, Chris was deeply connected to Cape Breton. He died doing what he loved, exploring the trails of Cape Breton. Born in Halifax May 23, 1951, Chris leaves his beloved wife Marlene Kane, sons Robert, Richard and Joshua, siblings James, Victor, Diana, Sheilah and Cora, close cousins, nieces and nephews, and many, many friends and colleagues. He was predeceased by his parents James and Bobbe Hayes and his sister Kathleen Hayes. There will be a funeral service held for Chris at 2 p.m. in Chant's Funeral Home on Friday, November 22, 2013. Michaud Passed in: Sydney Passed on: November 19th, 2013 Mary Mabel MacKillop, a resident of Harbourstone Enhanced Care, Sydney, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 19, 2013, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney. Born in Pt. Michaud, Richmond Co., she was a daughter of the late Kenneth and Mary (Morrison) MacAskill. Mabel was very proud of her Scottish Heritage. Surviving are her sons, Ken (Margie) and Kyle and the mother of his children, Thelma MacKillop; sister, Lexena MacKillop; three grandchildren, Darryl MacKillop (Annette), Kylene MacKillop (Ian) and Kendra Kennedy (Vince); and two great-grandchildren, Lauren and Nicholas. She was also Nanny Killop to her two step-grandchildren, Lisa (Danny) Wood and Rev. Russell Daye and three step-great-grandchildren, Liam, Sam and Will. Mabel was predeceased by her husband, Kyle in 1985, sisters, Margaret and Dolena and her twin sister (in infancy), brothers, Donald and Johnny; and granddaughter, Darlene. Angus John Carmichael Born In: St Ann's, Nova Scotia, Canada Born: November 24th, 1917 Passed in: St Ann's, Nova Scotia, Canada Passed on: November 17th, 2013 One week shy of his 96th birthday, Angus John 'AJ' Carmichael passed away Sunday at his home in St Anns, Victoria County, N.S. Born in St. Ann's in November 1917, A J was the eldest son of the late Hector and Katie (MacAskill) Carmichael. He lived his entire life in St Anns. A J was a Second World War veteran having served in Holland and Italy during that war. He returned in 1946 to marry Murdena Kerr of North River Bridge. He worked throughout his lifetime as a lobster fisherman, farmer and sawmill operator/woodsman. He also served Victoria County as councillor and as a member and elder of John Fraser Memorial Church for many years. He is survived by his children. Darrell (Sandi), Port Williams, N.S., Harold 'Hal', West LaHave, N.S., Mary Lynn (Eric Keys), Sydney, N.S., Ronald, Winnipeg, Man., Angus John 'Jay', Toronto, Ont., Shelley (Doug Neilson), Charlottetown, P.E.I., and Todd, St. Anns, N.S. Surviving also are five grandchildren. Raegan (Jon Heidt), Martha (Matthew Kutcher), Mathew (Brenda), Daniel (Samantha) and Anna-Cate plus two great-grandchildren, Daniela and Mateo with another due in April 2014. He is also survived by his youngest sister, Anna (late Allister) MacInnis, North Shore, N.S.; sisters-in-law, Betty (late John) Kerr, Coxheath, N.S., Margaret (late Claude) Carmichael, St. Anns. He was predeceased by his wife of 65 years, Murdena (Kerr) Carmichael and his granddaughter, Hannah Carmichael in 2011. In recent weeks he was predeceased by his brother, Norman and brother-in-law Johnnie Kerr. His sister Mayme (the late Doug) Eckhardt; brother Claude Carmichael; his brothers-in-law, Peter (late Shirley) Kerr and Alex (late Jean) Kerr also preceded him in death. Born in Sydney Mines, she was the daughter of the late Jack and Sicily (Gear) Kelland. Asneth was a gifted seamstress and was well known for her prom and bridesmaids dresses. She also loved knitting and crocheting and loved to bake, dance, bowl, play darts and swim at the Northside Community Pool. She was also active with the Bras d'Or Senior Citizens and Pensioners Club. Asneth is survived by her children Richard (Isabel) Kelland, Dalem Lake, Patsy (Cliff) Burton, Mill Creek, Leonard (Debbie) Marsh, Sydney Mines, Donnie (Michelle) Marsh, Edmonton, her step-children Marlene (Ian) MacLean, Middle River, Irene (Hal) Hill, Georges River, Billy (Denise) Mulley, Baddeck, Donnie Mulley, Florence, Colleen (John) Roberts, Hammonds Plains, Kim (Scott) Young, Calgary; step daughter-in-law Bonita Mulley, Florence; her 8 grandchildren Ricky, Randy and Rodney Kelland, Wayne Burton, John, Tracy, Kim and Derek Marsh; 11 great-grandchildren and one great-great granddaughter. Born March 4, 1925, in Cambridge, Mass. to the late Dan Ewen and Kate (MacDonald) MacLeod, she was raised in Framboise and upon her marriage, came to live in Belfry. In January 2011, Sarah moved to Seaview Manor and from there to Harbourstone in May 2012, where a new phase of her life began as she enjoyed new activities, made new friends, and was lovingly cared for. A member of Zion Wesley United Church and a former member of the U.C.W., she spent her life caring for her family and serving her church and community to the best of her ability. Sarah enjoyed knitting socks, mitts and stocking caps for whoever needed them. Making cookies (especially for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren), baking delicious homemade bread and cooking the best pot roast ever, gave her great satisfaction. Besides her parents, Sarah was predeceased by her husband, Abe and brothers, Angus W. and Dan Alex. She is survived by her daughter, Murrena (Douglas) Kennedy; son, Dan (Florence) MacCormick; grandchildren, Dawn (Stephen), Jennifer (Jon), Andrew (Isabelle) and Robert (Katie); great-grandchildren, Jake, Luke, Keegan, Sacha and Kali; sister, Martha (Wendell) Holmes; brothers, Donald (Joan) MacLeod and Walter (the late Florence) MacLeod; and many nieces and nephews. Mary was born in Pipers Cove, Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia on June 24, 1938. Mary spent her early years in Nova Scotia with her husband Larry and spent several years in Panama Canal Zone, St. Thomas US Virgin Islands, Guam, and finally settled in Florida when they retired. Mary spent as much time as possible in their cottage in Grand Narrows. She always considered Cape Breton to be her home. Mary leaves behind her beloved husband John Lawrence 'Larry'; five children, John Lawrence Jr., Gerald Thompson, Mary Melinda, Patrick Stewart (Malia Boardman), and Ronald Gregory. She will be sadly missed by her seven grandchildren, Christina Marie (Graham Ransom), Laura Ashley, Julia Breanne, Shannon Mary, Heather Michelle, Margaret Ann, Michael Patrick Steven MacNeil, along with four great-grandchildren, Alison Natassia Ransom, Jake Aiden Ransom, Connor William MacNeil, Cassidy Nancy MacNeil. Mary was predeceased by her parents Albert Thompson and Mary Isabel 'Mary Belle', sisters Selena Margaret Belle 'Lina', Lillian Viola, Alexina Marie 'Lexie', Annie Pearl and her brothers John Hartigan 'Jackie', James Michael 'Jim', William MacRae 'Bill', Arthur Neil and Chester Hubert. She is survived by her siblings, Albert Roderick (Rose), sister Margaret Ann, Sheila Marie, and sister and brother-in-law, Erika Fraser and Joe MacKenzie. She also leaves behind countless nieces and nephews who adored her as much as she adored them. Mary will be forever remembered for her love of family and her interest in preserving family history and tradition. Mary was especially proud of her Cape Breton roots. Mary was a person of high interests, she was a graduate of the Cape Breton Business College, earned a Bachelors of Business Administration degree from Warner University, a licensed real-estate agent, licensed Esthetician, and business owner (MEJL). She will be missed by all who loved her dearly. There will be a family mass held at Mary's residence on Monday, Nov. 18, 2013, and will be officiated by her dear friend Fr. Bernie MacAdam. Interment will be held at St. Barra's Cemetery, Christmas Island, Cape Breton, Nova Scotia, in the summer of 2014. Donations can be made in Mary's honour to the Diabetes Association.
