He is survived by his children, John (Julia), Anne (Geoffrey Herrera), Malcolm, and Andrew; his siblings, Catherine (Balmano), and Everett; grandchildren, Keirstin, Jonathan, Ryan, Leigh, Lynn, Caroline, and Emily; great-grandchildren, Thomas, Elianne, Valentina, Liliana, Kane, and Logan. Born in Nyanza, Victoria County, Cape Breton, he was the son of John and Mary (Lane) MacLennan. He was predeceased by Margaret Jewison his wife of 65 years; his son, George (Oriel), his brothers, Sandy, Wesley, Owen, and sister, Harriett. Dan joined the Cape Breton Highlanders in 1939, serving as an armorer; he was promoted to the rank of Staff-Sergeant until his discharge in 1946. While in England he met and married Margaret. Upon returning to Canada he studied watch-making and worked at Gabriel's Jewelers and Nauss Jewelers until 1975 when he changed careers. He used his considerable skill as a craftsman of prosthetic appliances at the Nova Scotia Rehabilitation Centre until his retirement in 1986. He was active in his community serving as Clerk of Session at United Memorial Church, Superintendent of the Sunday school, and chairman of the Richmond Home and School Association. In his retirement he pursued many interests including astronomy, receiving recognition for his photographs of sun spots. Friends and family may visit Cruikshank's Halifax Funeral Home, 2666 Windsor Street on Thursday, October 31, 2013, from 6 - 9 p.m. A memorial service will be held on Friday, November 1, at 11 a.m. in United Memorial Church on Kaye Street, Halifax.
