Kerr - 92 yrs Christina Lovelace - 84 yrs Brian Colson Passed in: Glace Bay Passed on: November 1st, 2013 Michael Brian Colson, of Glace Bay, died in the early hours of November 1, 2013, after a lengthy illness. He was 64. Brian had a long career as a chef at various restaurants here and in Halifax, including the Miners' Village Restaurant, which he operated with his brother David. Predeceased by his parents, Michael and Bridgette (Metcalfe) of Glace Bay, and by a daughter Lisa. Brian is survived by his beloved wife Debbie, and his devoted daughters Terri, of Toronto, Sherri (Victor), Dominion, Michelle (New Brunswick), Kelly (Terry), Glace Bay and by a stepson Joey (Ashley). He is also survived by his brothers David (Lisa) of Glace Bay and Barry in Halifax; two sisters Jean Marie (Ron) of Dartmouth and Frances (Francis) of Glace Bay, as well as eighteen grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Brian enjoyed playing guitar and piano, studying the scriptures and collecting baseball cards. Researching his family history gave him a great sense of his own identity, and taught him the importance of family. Remains will rest at the Patten Funeral Home in Glace Bay on Monday, November 4th, from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, Evergreen Drive, Sydney. Stella MacLellan Born In: Sydney Passed in: Sydney Passed on: November 1st, 2013 It is with deep sadness that we regret to announce the passing of Stella Yvonne MacLellan on Friday, Nov. 1, 2013, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, surrounded by her loving family. Born in Sydney, Stella was the daughter of the late Cornelius and Helen Sampson. Family was everything to Stella. She was an avid card and dart player. She loved fishing and going for long car drives in hope of seeing a deer. Stella will be remembered by family and friends for being a strong graceful loving woman. Stella is survived by her husband, Angus Hubert MacLellan; children, Margaret Marie (Peter) Axworthy, Stella Yvonne Smith, Donna Marie (Jim) Ruberto and Laurie Anne Liddle; step-children, Margaret Anne, Stella, Freddie and Heather; grandchildren, Taaryn, Tierra, Rachael, Davey, Jonathan, Sarah, Hannah, Stephen, Alyssa, Damon and Duncan; sisters, Patricia (Joe) Parago, Betty Chipman and Helen (Jim) Dixon; brother, Edmund (Ruby); sister-in-law, Eileen; as well as many great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. David MacPherson Born In: Little Bras d'Or Passed in: Sydney Mines Passed on: November 1st, 2013 With heartfelt sadness we the family announce the sudden passing of David Ambrose MacPherson, loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and uncle, on Friday, November 1, 2013 at his home. Born in Little Bras d'Or, David was the son of the late Roy and Veronica (Reashore) MacPherson. He worked as a Construction Supervisor retiring from the Gulf Oil Terminal in Port Hawkesbury. He was an avid Toronto Maple Leafs fan. David was a member of St. Joseph Church, Bras d'Or. David is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Sarah 'Sadie' (Penny) MacPherson; his four sons Kevin, Georges River, David (Bonita), Georges River, Sheldon (Helene), Michael (Thelma), both of Sydney Mines, and daughter Ann Marie (Bob) Brown, White Court, AB.; his eight grandchildren John David, Adam Ryan, Nicole, Robert, Terri Lynn, Mary, David and Shelby; five great-grandchildren Braden, Nevaeh, Melia, Nathaniel and Chase. Also surviving are his sisters Margaret Andrews, North Sydney, Cavell MacPherson, Kentville, and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two infant children David and Mary; his daughter-in-law Jeanne MacPherson; his sisters Marcella MacEachern, Judy Foster, Catherine Dove and brother Andrew MacPherson. Born in Sydney, she was the daughter of the late Leo and Jane (Assaff) Abbass. Gen was a devoted Catholic and a member of Daughters of Mary of the St. Joseph's Lebanese and Syrian Benevolent Society. She is survived by her sister Naphie (George) Tomie, Sydney and numerous nieces and nephews. Gen was predeceased by brothers Tom and John L. Abbass and stepmother Victoria. John (Jake) Brown Born In: Sydney Mines Born: May 25th, 1948 Passed in: Sydney Mines Passed on: October 31st, 2013 With deep sadness we announce the passing of John (Jake) Brown, 65, on Thursday, October 31, 2013, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, surrounded by his loving family. Jake, also known as 'Uncle Jake' was born and raised in Sydney Mines. He was the son of the late Albert and Suzanne (Thompson) Brown. Jake was employed in his earlier years at Upper Lake Shipping. He was also a sportsman who loved the Toronto Maple Leafs, and in his younger years was proud to have coached the Sydney Mines All Stars baseball league. He is survived by his brothers and sisters; Albert (Angela), Annette Little, Joe, Allan (Marlene), Paul (Christine), Suzanne (Lane) and many nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, Jake was predeceased by his brothers Georgie, Clyde and Joe (in infancy); sister Nona; uncle Eddie and brother-in-law Robert Little. Cremation has taken place under the care and direction of J. M. Jobes Funeral Home, Sydney Mines. A celebration of Uncle Jake's life will be held at J. M. Catherine 'Kay' Clements Born In: Glace Bay Passed in: Glace Bay Passed on: October 31st, 2013 It is with sadness that we, the family, announce the passing of our loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt and friend, Catherine Christina 'Kay' Clements. Mom passed away peacefully on Thursday, Oct. 31, 2013 at the Glace Bay Hospital, with her loving family by her side. Born in Glace Bay, she was the daughter of the late Murdock and Mary Lee (Thompson) Budge, was a lifelong member of St. Paul's Anglican Church in Port Morien and was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Kay was a true homemaker, a job she cherished; she enjoyed cooking, baking, knitting and spending time with her loving family. Kay will be remembered as a very kind hearted and thoughtful woman, always putting the needs of others before her own needs. She would not even sit at functions until everyone else was seated. Mom was affectionately known by family and the community as "Nanny Kay". She will be sadly missed by her loving sons, Lloyd (Carol), Port Morien and Gerry (Sandra), Ont. She will also be sadly missed by grandchildren, Lisa (Bruce) Nicholson, James (Rowena), Bill (Sarah), Jenelle (Tim) Livingstone, great-grandchildren, Averie Ann, Shelby, Grayson, Tenley, Matthew, Thomas; numerous nieces, nephews and friends Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Percy 'Hank' Clements; sisters, Jessie, Audrey and Willena. Carmen (Botte) McMullin Born In: Reserve Mines Born: August 22nd, 1935 It is with great sadness we the family of Carmen (Botte) McMullin,78 of Sydney announce the peaceful passing and the end of her 11 year battle with Alzheimer's disease on Nov. 1, 2013, with her family by her side. Carmie as she was affectionately known was the third and youngest child born Aug. 22 1935 in Reserve Mines, to Belgian immigrants Camille and Rachelle Botte. She had two older brothers, Ferno and Camille Jr. Carmie was the only child born Canadian but remained very proud of her Belgian heritage her entire life. She married her childhood sweetheart Tom, 54 years ago, and they were happily married to the end. They adopted their only son Glenn 49 years ago and she was naturally a wonderful loving mom. She was a great homemaker and her home became the gathering place countless times over the years for celebrations and reunions. She was a fabulous musician along with her husband Tom and entertained many family and friends with her piano and accordion skills. She was fluent in French and English and made many trips back to Belgium maintaining close relationships with her family there. She was always very proud of her father's success in the 1914, Tour de France. She loved watching hockey and tennis and was a very vocal fan at times. Family was everything to her and she was everything to her family. Carmie is survived and sadly missed by her husband, Tom McMullin; as well as their son, Glenn (Samantha) McMullin and granddaughter, Rebecca who was her pride and joy. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Megie (Camille Jr.) Botte, as well as nephew, Greg (Donna) Botte and niece, Donna (Bill) Buckland. She will also be missed by her best friend Rose (Gerald) Buckland. In Belgium she is survived by nephew, Jean (Danielle) Botte and his sister, Johanna Botte; cousin, Claudine (Guy) Brichard. As well as many great nieces and nephews both here and abroad. Carmie was predeceased by her parents Camille and Rachelle Botte and her two brothers, Ferno and Camille Jr. and she missed them every day. We would like to give thanks to the staff of Harbourstone Enhanced Care Facility, MacDougall Court, for the special work they do to make the residents lives the absolute best it can be. Also special thanks to niece Donna Botte who was very close to Carmie over the years and was of tremendous help and comfort to the end. We would also like to thank Charlene MacDonald of Continuing Care, for her vast knowledge, positive attitude and caring nature. Charlene made Carmie's last years so much better by providing us with the guidance and information to make the best decisions for her. Mary Wynn Born In: L'Archeveque Passed in: Sydney Passed on: October 31st, 2013 Barbara Mary Wynn, a resident of Harbourstone Enhanced Care, passed away unexpectantly on Thursday, Oct. 31, 2013, at Harbourstone Enhanced Care, Sydney. Born in L' Archeveque, Richmond Co., she was a daughter of the late George and Annie Matheson. Mary was a member of Bethel Presbyterian Church and the Friendship Guild. During her professional career, Mary worked as a bookkeeper. Surviving are her stepdaughter, Judy McKean; stepsons, Bruce Wynn and Bill (Ella) Wynn; nieces, Iris Cummings, Charlotte (Earl) Umlah and Joanne (Mark) Fanning; nephews, Alexander MacKenzie and Brian Matheson; two great-nieces and four great-nephews. Mary was predeceased by her husband, Walter; sister, Florrie; brothers, Bill, Murdock, Donald and Rory. There will be no visitation. A graveside service will be held at St. Mary's Cemetery, Glace Bay on Wednesday 10:30 a.m., with Rev. Robert Lyle officiating. Born in Grand Anse on Dec. 3, 1923, Jean was the daughter of the late Duncan and Florence Buchanan and the last surviving member of her immediate family. She was predeceased by her husband, Norman and her son, Keith; as well as sisters, Zana, Anna and Rita and brothers, John, Bert and Duncan 'D.J.'. Jean was a wonderful mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and will be dearly missed by daughters, Marguerite (Dave), Bedford and Norma (Norman), Sydney. Also, by granddaughters, Kerry (Ian), Bedford, Lisa and Kathleen, both of Halifax and her great-grandchildren, Ryan and Emma Jean. No visitation at her request. Born in North River Bridge, he was the son of the late Dan Angus and Sarah (Briggette) Kerr. John was an active member of his beloved St. Andrews Presbyterian Church, North River, serving as elder and choir member for 50 years. John enjoyed a long and fulfilling retirement from Municipal Ready Mix, where he was part owner and superintendent for 26 years. He also owned a cottage at North River which he maintained into his later years and was always so proud of his manicured lawn and his shiny clean cars. His favourite saying every time he bought a new car was "this one will be my last". Always ready with a helping hand, John was a friend to all and will be greatly missed by everyone who had the privilege and pleasure of knowing him. John will be sadly missed by his wife, Betty (Marmulak) Kerr; his daughter, Sharon (Terrence) Kerr; grandchildren, Brent (Leeanne), Kristen (Bernie), Paul (Heather), Kyle (Callie) Danyelle (Raymond); great-grandchildren, Emma, Laura, Haley, Johnathon, Brody, Chloe, Carlie and Lea.
