Cape Breton Deaths courtesy of CAPE BRETON GENEALOGY & HISTORICAL ASSOCIATION VISIT OUR WEBSITE - <http://www.cbgen.org/>www.cbgen.org NEW MEMBERS WELCOME Robert Guest March 5, 1922 - November 10, 2013 Passed away peacefully at the General Hospital with family and listening to his favourite music. Son of James Guest and Mary Dickson from his first love Sydney Mines, Cape Breton, Nova Scotia. Bob was a loving husband to Colleen (McRae) and loyal father to Brian and Robyn Guest. He was a thoughtful grandfather to Devyn and Quinnlan and a devoted friend. A proud graduate from Acadia University, Bob excelled academically in chemistry and dedicated his forty-year career to public service in the Government of Canada. Bob was a considerate and gentle man. Many friends at the RA Centre, Rideau Tennis Club, and Energy Mines and Resources benefited from the organizer and leader in him. A generous friend and father, Bob had an understated goodness that drew people to him for his insight and advice. He quietly insisted that everyone around him slow down to enjoy the simple things in life. Never one to judge, Bob made space for a family to grow protected, supported and confident. A man who engaged in ideas and politics in a way that was never imposing or forced; Bob simply led by example. As a father, Bob taught us many things including (but definitely not limited to) how to think for ourselves in a sea of conflicting ideas; that the more you learn the more you realize you don't know; and, that acceptance and love are enduring qualities to be valued. His love of dogs, music, tennis, badminton and fine food kept him happy until the end. His life changed dramatically several weeks ago with a simple fainting spell. In the end, he lost his strength, his ability to eat, to walk and finally his voice. He left us quietly, gradually, holding our hands and reminding us to slow down and notice the simple things, the things that do not command attention and the love among us. Above all, Bob was an understated presence in an all to often aggressive world. A kind and selfless man of intellect, curiosity and love - a tender husband, father, friend, and an example of the kind of person we all wish we could be. Friends are invited to a Memorial Gathering at the Central Chapel of Hulse, Playfair & McGarry, 315 McLeod Street (at O'Connor) on Monday, November 18, 2013 from 2-4 p.m. Speeches and tributes to honour Bob's life will take place around 3 p.m. In Memoriam donations can be made C I S V Ottawa-an independent, volunteer organization promoting cross-cultural friendship and learning P.
