MacDonald - 74 yrs Gordon Anthony Mancini - 88 yrs Neil Bernard McKinnon - 43 yrs Catherine 'Katie' Chant Born In: Reserve Mines Passed in: Glace Bay Passed on: December 1st, 2013 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Catherine Chant (MacNeil) on Sunday, Dec. 1, 2013, at the Victoria Haven Nursing Home in Glace Bay, N.S. Catherine was the daughter of the late John Roderick MacNeil and Annie Murphy. She was born in Reserve Mines on April 19, 1922, but lived most of her life in Glace Bay. She was fondly known to all as 'Katie'. Katie had a great love for children and that was represented through her work as a foster mom to over 60 children throughout the years. She was a hard worker, a loving mother, grandmother, sister and aunt who always put her family first. She will be greatly missed by all those who knew and loved her. Katie was predeceased by her husband, Joseph, her three children, Ann (Politte), Wayne and John Leo; her granddaughter, Dana and her grandson Daniel, seven sisters, five brothers and several nieces and nephews. She is survived by her sister, Mary Esther (Nessie) White; her foster son, John Carter (Gloria), 12 grandchildren, several great-grandchildren as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held at V. J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay on Wednesday, Dec. 4, 2013, from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Funeral Mass to be held at St. Anne's Church in Glace Bay on Thursday, Dec. 5 at 10 a.m. with a reception to follow in the church foyer. Lloyd Jewer Born In: New Waterford Passed in: Lower Sackville Passed on: November 28th, 2013 Lloyd passed away on Thursday, Nov. 28, 2013, in The Admiral, Long Term Care Centre, Dartmouth. Born in New Waterford, a son of the late Daisy and Azariah Jewer. He served 20 years in the Royal Canadian Navy. He then worked at HMC Dockyard, Halifax and Vancouver Shipyards, B.C. His passions were road trips with his beloved Margaret from Scotland, country music, guitar playing, and he was a talented woodworker. He will be missed by his son, John, Vancouver, B.C.; daughters, Linda (Keith) Snair, Windsor Junction, Anita, Lower Sackville, Sharon, Bridgewater; and dear friend, Floyd Seymour, Bridgewater; grandchildren, Paula, Katie, Jennifer, Blake, Alexandra, Andrew, Emily; brother, Bernie; sisters, Shirley, Barbara, Beryl, all of Vancouver, and Pauline of Glace Bay. He was predeceased by brother, Howard (Vancouver); and sister, Betty (Calgary, Alta.). Cremation has taken place in Dartmouth Funeral Home. No service will be held. David MacDonald David passed away peacefully with his family at his side at Niagara Health Center on Saturday, Nov. 30, 2013, at the age of 74. David, beloved husband of Marilyn (Keon) for 48 years. Loving father of Kirk (Elizabeth), Kim (Christian), Greg (Tara). Lovingly remembered by his grandchildren, Keonna, Breagh, Archie, Emily, Lauren, Liam and Fletcher. Predeceased by his grandson, Jack, his parents, Colin and Alice, and his sister-in-law, Velma. He is survived by his siblings, Colin (Kay), Ron (Carol), Elaine (Kevin), Patricia (David), Brenda (David), Karen (Ken), Kevin and Kelly. David was a principal with Lincoln County Catholic School Board retiring in 1995. Visitation will be held at the George Darte Funeral Chapel, 585 Carlton St., on Tuesday, Dec. 3 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m., and on Wednesday, Dec. 4 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Vigil Prayers will take place on Wednesday at 3 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday afternoon, Dec. 5 at 1 p.m. at the Star of the Sea Catholic Church, 34 Elgin St., St. Catharines. Gordon Mancini Born In: North Sydney Passed in: North Sydney Passed on: November 30th, 2013 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our wonderful, caring husband, father, and grandfather Gordon Anthony Mancini on Nov. 30, 2013, at the North Side Community Guest Home, North Sydney. Born in North Sydney, he was the son of the late Antonio and Margaret (Boutilier) Mancini. Gordon loved all types of sports, but was an avid bowler, who also greatly enjoyed a good game of tarabish. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Cecilia Dorothy (O'Neill) Mancini, Sydney; his daughters, Pamela (Glenn) Langille, Sydney, Laurie Mancini, Grimsby, Ont.; son, Anthony (Nancy Steylen), Beaumont, Alta.; sisters, Lorraine (Norm), Theresa. Gordon is also survived by his grandchildren, Nicole, Marc, Myles, Warren and Kiana. He is also survived by two aunts, Evelina and Gemma; sisters-in-law Rose, Anne, Coleen, Marilyn, Germaine and Kay; brothers-in-law, Rod, Glenn, Ike, Don and David and many nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, Gordon was predeceased by a son, David Joseph Mancini, brother, John Charles, brothers-in-law, Bill O'Neill and Arnold Alexander, also sister-in-law, Marguerite (Jimmie) Lahey. Neil Bernard McKinnon Born In: Cambridge, Canada Passed in: North Sydney, Canada Passed on: November 30th, 2013 It is with heavy hearts that we, the McKinnon family, announce the sudden passing of a loving father, son, brother, uncle, nephew and friend, Neil Bernard McKinnon, CD 1, 43, on Friday, Nov. 30, 2013, at his home. Neil was born in Cambridge, Ont., the son of Raylene (Burton) McKinnon and the late Neil B. McKinnon. Neil served for the Department of National Defense, Canadian Armed Forces, as a Firefighter. He graduated from the Canadian Recruit School, CFB Cornwallis with honorable mention for Skill at Arms. He was stationed in CFB Greenwood for many years. Early in his career, Neil was a member of the Department of National Defense, Reserve Unit, Cape Breton Highlanders as an Infanteer. Upon transitioning from an active member of the Canadian Armed Forces to a veteran, Neil's desire to continue to serve his community compelled him to offer his services to the North Sydney Volunteer Fire Department. His passion for serving and protecting was a reflection of his career choice and lifestyle. His courageous personality formed the basis of his life and his dedication to his family was steadfast. In his earlier years, Neil was a member of the 21st. Royal Highland Fusiliers of Canada Army Cadet Corps, located in Cambridge, Ont. Sharing a love of hockey with his father, Neil played for the Tillsonburg Ontario Minor Hockey Association, AAA league. Neil is survived by his son Nathen McKinnon, and daughter Amber McKinnon, his mother Raylene (Burton) McKinnon, his sister Catherine McKinnon, his niece Kaitland McKinnon and nephew Christopher Power and many aunts and uncles. Neil was predeceased by his father Neil Bernard McKinnon, his paternal and maternal grandparents and his cousin Robert Millard. Visitation for Neil will be held from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 4 in the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney. A funeral mass celebrating his life will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday at St. Joseph Church, North Sydney, with Rev. Patrick O'Neill officiating.
