Born in Springhill, NS, she was the daughter of the late James and Elsie (Reiley) Ryan. Joyce had been a successful real estate agent in the Moncton area for many years and at one time was vice-president of the Moncton Real Estate Association. She enjoyed painting in Cape Breton and Pugwash and had been a member of the Cape Breton Artist Association. Joyce's greatest pleasure was entertaining family and friends she and her husband Doug met, wherever they lived. She was loved by family and friends and found gentleness and sweetness in her last few years with dear friend, Vern Westhaver. Joyce is survived by her daughters, Dawn and Kelly ("son" Doug Rose); her grandson, Ryan; granddaughter, Heather (Jason) King; great grandchildren, Dahlyla and Hudson and her sisters, Lois, Marilyn and Susan. She was predeceased by her husband, Doug and brothers, Doug, Jimmy and Glennie. The family would like to take this opportunity to thank the staff of Creative Care, at the Cove Guest Home, especially Janice Burton; Dr. Archibald, Dr. Ritter and the staff of En Cala unit of the CB Regional Hospital, for the loving care shown to Joyce during her illness. We will be forever grateful. Also, a very special thank you to Dianne Sibley-Rushton, for the help and guidance you provided our family during this difficult time in our lives. Joyce is on her way to a place of eternal love and would wish her family and friends to carry forth the love she herself showed to everyone she met. Peter MacKinnon Born In: Capstick Passed in: North Sydney Passed on: December 6th, 2013 It is with deep sadness and broken hearts that we announce the passing of Peter Dan MacKinnon. Peter was surrounded by his family when he passed away on Friday, Dec. 6, 2013 at the Northside General Hospital. Born in Capstick, he was the son of the late Donald A. and Jessie Florence (Burton) MacKinnon. Peter had many loves in life, family being the first. He had a special relationship with all of his immediate family and those of his extended family; especially his grand-nephew, Jason Keigan 'Buddy'. Peter was very much a people person spending his mornings chatting with many patrons at Tim Hortons, walking around Indian Beach chatting with anyone. He loved to go out in the boat fishing and spent much of his life working either as a woodsman or fisherman. He is survived by his wife, Darlene Hawley; daughters, Idella Matheson (Paul), Cora Blake (Dave), Wanda Pye (Gilbert), Kim MacLean, Wendy MacLean (Jackie); son, Jason MacLean (Nora), and special grandson Scott Pye. Peter was the eldest brother to Elizabeth MacKinnon (Sandy), Sadie MacKinnon (Hector), Johnny (Gordena), Lewis (Pinny), Katie Groves (Leonard), Donald (Cindy), Jean Forest (Benny), Alex (Sarah), Nora (Jason), Denise MacAskill (John), and Anthony (Karen). He was predeceased by his son, Clarence Pye, also by his siblings, Millie Wayne, Joan, Nellie, Myles, and Bernie MacKinnon. Cremation has taken place under the care and direction of Fillmore and Whitman Funeral Home, Sydney Mines. Visitation will take place on Tuesday, Dec. 10 at 11 a.m. until the time of the Celebration of Life Service at 2 p.m. from the chapel with the Dianne Kempt; DLM officiating. Roy McMullin Born In: Reserve Mines Passed in: Glace Bay Passed on: December 4th, 2013 It is with profound sadness that we the family announce the death of our father and husband Roy McMullin, who passed away peacefully on Dec. 4, 2013, at home with his wife, Shirley and daughter, Debbie by his side. Born in Reserve Mines, he was the son of the late Malcolm and Flora (Morrison) McMullin. Roy spent 26 years in the signals branch of the Canadian military before retiring to his home in Glace Bay in 1978. During his military service he was deployed twice to Cyprus as a peace keeper. Roy's legacy carries forward in his passion for music, which lasted a lifetime. His home was always warmed by his singing and guitar playing, a gift he has passed on to his children and grandchildren. Roy is survived by his wife of 56 years, Shirley; daughter, Debbie, Dominion; sons, Dale (Marilyn), Roy (Sheila), of Ontario. Grampy will be missed by his loving grandchildren, Chauntelle, Danielle, Jessica, Michael, Robyn and Taylor and his great-grandchild, Jace; as well as his constant companion his cat, Molly. Roy held a special place in his heart for his niece, Theresa McNeil and nieces, Patsy Hill, Donalda McNeil, Darlene Brewer and grandniece, Kim McNeil Price. Roy was the youngest of Malcolm and Flora's 12 children and the last surviving member of his immediate family. He was predeceased by his brothers, Mickey, Danny, Ebb, Naish, Joseph, John, Bunny, Archie and his sisters, Flora, Margaret & Mary. Roy was also predeceased by twin sons in infancy and his brother-in-law and best friend, 'Snoopy' Jimmy Brewer. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of McLellan Brothers Funeral Home, 3183 Plummer Ave., New Waterford 862-7500. There will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place. A celebration of Roy's life will take place on Monday, Dec. 9th at 10 a.m. in St. Anne's Church, Glace Bay, with Fr. Leo Boone officiating. A luncheon will be held in the church. All are welcome. Mary 'Margaret' Dobson Born In: Boston Passed in: Georges River Passed on: December 5th, 2013 We, the daughters of Margaret, regretfully announce her death at home, on Dec. 5, 2013. Born in Boston, Mass., she was the daughter of James and Edith (Morrison) MacDonald. She had Cape Breton roots, being descendant of the Morrisons of Mira, the MacDonalds of French Road, the Petries of Low Point and the Sellons of Englishtown. She was brought up in Boston and New York but lived in Cape Breton since her marriage. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Charles in 1981 and her brother, James Stephen in 1975. She is survived by her two daughters, Cory and Diana, both of Georges River. Those who knew Margaret will remember her for her wisdom, wit, honesty, generosity of spirit, remarkable memory and passion for books. To us she was the very best a mother could be and we will miss her terribly. We wish to thank the Cape Breton County Homemakers for their kind and dedicated service. We could not have managed without them. There will be no visitation. In accordance with her wishes, cremation will take place, followed by interment of ashes privately in the family graveyard on the Morrison Road.
