Johnston - 88 yrs Edward Thistle - 79 yrs Mary Janet Isadore - 77 yrs Marjorie Anne (MacIntyre) MacKay - 73 yrs Johanna Burton With many tears and fond memories we like to announce the death of a caring and loving mother, sister and aunt. Johannah 'Hannah' Mary Burton passed away peacefully on Dec. 9, 2013, at Highland Manor, Neil's Harbour. Born in Bay St. Lawrence on Oct. 11, 1919, to the late Susan and James Issac Burton. Hannah was a strong member of St. Margaret's CWL with a helping hand for everyone. She had a special relationship with the people she worked for in Sydney. She was a resident of Highland Manor for eight years. Besides her parents, Hannah was predeceased by her sons, Douglas and Stanley, brothers, William and Donald, sisters, Anguscine and Emma, nephews, Roland and Cyril, niece Susan. She is survived by nieces, Sheila and Jennifer, nephews, Robert, David and Melvin, brother-in-law, Douglas Thistle, Montreal. The family would like to thank the staff of Highland Manor, Neil's Harbour for the wonderful care and support provided for Hannah the past eight years. Visitation for Hannah will be held in St. Margaret's Church, St. Margaret's Village 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. on Dec. 20. Funeral mass at 11 a.m., Saturday, Dec. 21. Interment in parish cemetery. Adrian 'Adie' Currie Born In: Glace Bay Passed in: Glace Bay Passed on: December 11th, 2013 With heavy hearts we announce the death of Adrian 'Adie' Currie on Dec. 11, 2013, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital surrounded by his loving family. Adie was the son of the late Elizabeth 'Bertie' Perfect and V. Jerome Currie of Glace Bay. He will be sadly missed by his loving wife of 47 years, Sharon (Walker) Currie; his three childre, Susan (Fred) Boutilier, Annette Currie, Scott (Amanda MacKenzie), all of Glace Bay; precious grandchildren, Freddie, Curtis, Malcolm Boutilier, Michelle, Kaylee Butts, Chase, Brayden, Navaeh, Ethan Currie and Abby; brother, Reg; sisters, Monica Lovell, Minette (Tom) Murphy, Noreen (Bob) McNeil; as well as many nieces, nephews and extended family and friends. Adie was a well-known bus driver in his community. He was a very active member of John Bernard Croak Legion Branch 3 and an active parishioner of St. Leo's Church. He was well known for selling tickets for sporting organizations. Adie belonged to several choral groups including the Legionaire Male Chorus and the Coal Town Chorus. Besides his parents he was predeceased by brother in infancy, John, sister, Anita (Gouthro). Visitation will be on Sunday, Dec. 15 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at Curry's Funeral Home, 775 Main St., Glace Bay. A funeral mass will be celebrated Monday, Dec. 16 at 10 a.m. in St. Anne's Church. Johnston Born In: North Sydney Passed in: North Sydney Passed on: December 12th, 2013 It is with great sadness the family announce the peaceful passing of our mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, Lillian L. Johnston, at the age of 88, on Thursday, Dec. 12, 2013, at her residence. Born in North Sydney, Lillian was a daughter of the late Richard and Hattie (Young) Clarke. Lillian was a lifetime member of Saint Matthew Wesley United Church, the North Sydney Seniors Citizens and Pensioners Club and an Honorary Member of the Orange Lodge, and True Blue Lodge in North Sydney. She was an avid bingo player and will also be missed by her many friends whom she entertained with her jokes and great sense of humour. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Mom's family was the center of her life as she was to them. She will be lovingly remembered by her daughter Mary (Melvin) White, her sons, Gary (Sandy), Melvin, Jack (Jean), all of North Sydney and Kevin (Cindy), North West Arm, her 20 grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren, nieces and nephews and her many friends. She spent the last few years living in the "My Cape Breton Home for Seniors" in North Sydney, where she quickly became friends with the staff and other residents. She was very grateful for the care, attention and wonderful kindness she received from all the staff at the home. She was predeceased by her husband Albert Johnston in 1981, her three daughters, Linda, Selby and Phyllis and two sons, Alex and Albert Jr., her grandson Ronnie and her two granddaughters, Selby and Cindy and a number of brothers and sisters. There will be no visitation by request. A funeral service will be held 11 a.m., Saturday in the W.J.Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney, with Rev. David Luker officiating. Burial to follow at Lakeside Cemetery, North Sydney. Edward Thistle Born In: Scotchtown Passed in: New Waterford Passed on: December 11th, 2013 It is with sadness that we, the family, announce the passing of Edward Thistle, 79, of Castle Bay Road, Castle Bay, N.S., on Dec. 11, 2013, at New Waterford Hospital. Born in Scotchtown, he was a son of the late Cylus and Elizabeth (Wilson) Thistle. Edward was a coal miner with Devco for many years. He also worked on Devco Railway and drove bus for Boutilier's Bus Service. Edward enjoyed playing darts, hunting, fishing and a game of cards with his brother and sister. Surviving are his longtime companion and partner, Pauline Caverly, New Waterford; daughter, Fern (Jimmy) MacPhee, Alberta; sons, Gary Thistle and Wayne Thistle, both of New Waterford; brother, Ray (Deborah) Thistle, Trenton, N.S.; grandchildren, Julia, Heather, Jamie and Victoria; three great-grandchildren. Besides his parents, Edward was predeceased by his wife, Julia (Antle), brothers, Frank, Johnny and sister, Mary. There will be no visitation or funeral service. Cremation has taken place under the care and direction of V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 380 Smith St., New Waterford. Donations in his memory may be made to a charity of one's choice. Mary Isadore Born In: Wagmatcook Passed in: Baddeck Passed on: December 11th, 2013 Mary Janet Isadore, 77, pass away at Victoria County Memorial Hospital Dec. 11, 2013. Born in Wagmatcook, she was the daughter of the late James and Elizabeth (Francis) Peck. She was a member of Queen the World Church, Wagmatcook. She is survived by two sons, Bernard (Eunice) Peck and Peter Joseph (Mary Faye Cremo) Peck both of Wagmatcook; four daughters, Alice Marie Carmichael, Moncton, Flora Ann Isadore, Lindia Marie Isadore (Christopher Rose) and Millicent Marie Isadore (Richard Googoo), Wagmatcook; one brother, Joseph Peck (Josephine) Wagmatcook; four sisters, Victoria (Malcolm), Middle River, Rita Pierro, Nancy Bernard and Ethelyne Peck of Wagmatcook; 32 grandchildren, 38 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Isadore Michael Isadore, two sons, Henry and Joseph, three grandchildren and one great-grandchild, sister, Margaret Hart, son-in-law, David Carmichael, brothers-in-law, Charles Bernard, Peter Pierro and Seward Hart. The body is resting at the family home, 64 Jo-Gun Road, Wagmatcook, starting at 4 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 14, 2013. The funeral will be held Monday, Dec. 16 at 11 a.m. at Blessed Tekakwitha Church, Wagmatcook, with Fr. Paul Abbas officiating. Burial will follow at Queen of the World Cemetery, Wagmatcook. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made Canadian Cancer Society Marjorie Anne (MacIntyre) MacKay Born: July 5th, 1940 Passed on: October 16th, 2013 This beautifully kind, gentle and patient lady, a proud daughter of Cape Breton, slipped away peacefully at dusk with her husband and daughter by her side at St. Mary's Hospital on British Columbia's Sunshine Coast.
