The youngest son of Edward Peddle and the late Lois (MacNeil) Peddle. He is survived by his daughters, Anastasia, Ottawa, Christianna, Sydney; and son, Wesley, Sydney. He is also survived by his brother, Kevin Peddle (Margie) from Hillside; his sister, Joanne Clarke (Blair) and nieces and grandchildren. Craig was a graduate of the Cape Breton Regional Vocational School from the welding program. He then proceeded to attend and graduate from NSCC, Sydney, with his Red Seal in Welding. Over the last six years he was working out west in Fort McMurray, Alta. Craig was a loving son, a loving brother, but most of all a loving father. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends. Cremation has taken place. Visitation for Craig will be held on Thursday, Dec. 5, 2013, from 4-8 p.m. at S.W.Chant & Son Funeral Home, 564 Alexandra St., Sydney. Anthony Craig Farrell Back to Cape Breton Post Born In: Sydney Passed in: New Waterford Passed on: November 30th, 2013 It is with broken hearts we announce the sudden passing of Craig, beloved father, son, brother, uncle, nephew, cousin and friend on Nov. 30, 2013, at the age of 32. Born in Sydney, he was a son of Joanne MacLean and the late Roy Farrell. Craig was employed out west as an insulator before moving home to work as an LPN at both New Waterford Consolidated Hospital and Taigh Na Mara in Glace Bay; a career he truly enjoyed. In his pastime he played darts, watched UFC and hockey and spoke countless hours on the phone with his brother, Will. His greatest enjoyment, however, was spending time with his daughter Haven Ann. Craig is survived by his mother, Joanne MacLean(Gerald), New Waterford; brother, Will (Jessica), Alberta; daughter, Haven Ann, at home; special niece, Paige, Alberta; nephew, Austin, Victoria Mines; special aunt, Laurie, Dartmouth; cousins, Robyn (Mark) Gallant, New Waterford, Stacy (Shane) Hatt, Kentville, Kristen and Megan Meery, Dartmouth. Craig was predeceased by his father, Roy Farrell, maternal grandparents, Teresa and George McLellan, paternal grandparents, Margaret and Bernard Farrell and special aunt, Judy. Visitation will be held today (Wednesday, Dec. 4, 2013) from 7-9 p.m. at V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 380 Smith St., New Waterford. Cremation will follow. A funeral mass of celebration will take place Friday, Dec. 6 at 10 a.m. in the Parish Church of St. Leonard, Mount Carmel Avenue, with Fr. Ray Huntley officiating. Dora Leah Snyder Born In: Whitehead Guysborough County Passed in: Donkin/Sheet Harbour Passed on: November 20th, 2013 Dora Leah Snyder, 94, Donkin, and formerly of Sheet Harbour, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 20, 2013, in Cape Breton Regional Hospital. Born Feb. 7, 1919, in Whitehead, Guysborough County, she was the daughter of the late Angus and Bessie (Munroe) Feltmate. Dora spent most of her life in Sheet Harbour with her husband Lawrence. Besides being a a wife and mother, Dora worked at Eastern Shore Memorial Hospital in the laundry department. She enjoyed working in her flower and vegetable garden at home. In 2008 she sold her house and moved to Donkin to be close to her daughter. The last two months she spent at MacGillivary Guest Home until passing peacefully at the CBRH. Survived by daughter, Marilyn (Eric) Budden, Donkin; grandchildren, Helga, Orleans, Heidi (Dan), Coxheath, Mark (Helen), Tantallon; also her much loved five great-grandchildren, William, Craig, Alex, Jason and Carson; several nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her husband, Lawrence, brothers, Harry, Austin, Everett and Don, sisters, Ada Munroe and Ada in infancy. Cremation has taken place under the direction of D.S. Online condolences may be sent to [email protected] John Alexander MacLellan Born In: Inverness, Canada Passed in: Sydney River Passed on: December 3rd, 2013 We the family of John Alexander MacLellan regret to announce his passing on Dec. 3, 2013, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital. Born in Inverness, he was a son of the late Donald and Flora Belle (MacDonnell) MacLellan. John was the last surviving member of his immediate family. He is survived by several nieces and nephews. Predeceased by sisters, Mary Gillis and Mae MacGillivray; brothers, Rannie, Alex Angus, John Duncan and Archie. There will be no service. Hyman Solomon Goldberg Born In: Seattle Washington Passed in: Sydney Passed on: December 3rd, 2013 Hyman Solomon Goldberg, 82, passed away at Parkstone Enhanced Care nursing home in Halifax on Tuesday, December 3, 2013, with his family by his side. 'Hymie', known by his friends, was born in Seattle, Washington, and raised in Saint John, N.B. He spent his working life in Sydney, N.S., where he raised his family. He graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Dalhousie University in 1953. Upon graduation, he went to work for his father in Glace Bay to help run a scrapyard business known as, Metal Processors Limited. He went back to university as a mature student, where he completed his Bachelor and Masters degrees in Education from Acadia and St. F.X. universities. In 1969, he joined the Nova Scotia Eastern Institute of Technology as an instructor and retired at the University College of Cape Breton (UCCB) in 1994. During his tenure at UCCB, he served as Director of the Performing Arts Series. In this role, he was responsible for attracting such world-renowned musicians as, classical guitarists, Liona Boyd and Michael Laucke, jazz legend, Oliver Jones and harpist, Loreena McKennitt. In 1977, he wrote and produced a documentary on Maritime Jewry that aired on CBC Radio. The documentary spoke to the challenges of growing up Jewish in small communities and the many challenges Jews faced when first arriving in the Maritimes from Eastern Europe. It featured the choir from Sydney’s Temple Sons of Israel Synagogue, as well as several interviews with Jewish youth and seniors from communities throughout Nova Scotia and New Brunswick. In the mid 1980s, he and his wife, Rosalyn owned and operated a plant and gift boutique in Sydney. Upon retirement, he became heavily involved in the Sydney synagogue, The Temple Sons of Israel. With his lovely voice, he served as the local cantor, performing the Friday night and Saturday morning services. He also took art lessons in retirement and became an accomplished oil painter of seascapes.He was a huge fan of music, particularly the big band jazz era of the 1940s and the singer-songwriter era of the 1960s and 70s. Hymie was a loving and devoted husband and father. He cherished his wife, Rosalyn. He was heavily involved in his children’s lives. He rarely missed a hockey game, a dance recital or dinner theatre production where his kids participated. He had a special place in his heart for his only grandchild, Sarah. Hymie is survived by his brother, Srole (George Schwalbe), Montreal; sister, Esther (Leonard Meiselman), Bedford, Massachusetts; brother-in-law, Lionel (Linda) Hirsch, Sydney; daughters, Lisa Goldberg, Halifax, and Rinah Goldberg (Chris Richards), Calgary; son, Lyle Goldberg (Della Morrison), Halifax; and granddaughter, Sarah Goldberg, Halifax. He was predeceased by his parents, Isaac and Bessie (Magonet) Goldberg and wife, Rosalyn (Hirsch). The family would especially like to thank the staff at Melville Heights, Arborstone, Parkstone Enhanced Care, and the Extended Care Paramedics for their dedicated support to Hymie during the last eight years of his life. A memorial service will be held Friday, Dec. 6, 11 a.m. at Sydney Memorial Chapel, 49 Welton St., Sydney. Interment in the Hebrew Cemetery. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.sydneymemorialchapel.ca or e-mail [email protected] Anne Irene MacAulay Born In: Little Narrows Born: August 20th, 1926 Passed in: Abedeen Inverness County Passed on: December 2nd, 2013 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of the late Anne Irene MacAulay, aged 87, of Aberdeen, N.S., who departed peacefully surrounded by loved ones on Monday, Dec. 2, 2013, in Victoria County Memorial Hospital, Baddeck. The daughter of the late Alex and Lena (Hadley) MacLennan, Anne consistently showed all of us the true meaning of resilience and spirit. Anne remains a dearly beloved mother, sister, aunt, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend. She was predeceased by her husband, Murdock, brothers, Kenny, Gordon, and Jackie, sister, Margie Nymark, sister-in-law, Anne MacLennan, brothers-in-law, Herbert Nymark and Walter Matheson. Anne is survived by her children, Glenn (Helen), Murdith, Roy (Barb Butler) and Debby (David) Viner, as well as nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Also left to mourn her passing are her brother, Sandy (Ginny); her sisters, Ethel (Steve) MacDonald and Eileen Matheson; her sisters-in-law, Edna and Margaret MacLennan, many nieces and nephews and extended family members. The family thanks all who cared for Anne over these past months, including community members, nursing staff, the Hospice Society, Dr. Ritter, Home Care and Dr. Carlyle Chow, who provided Anne with excellent care and friendship. In honouring Anne's wishes, cremation has taken place and there will be no visitation. A memorial service will be held at the Little Narrows Presbyterian Church on Saturday, Dec. 7 at 2 p.m. with Rev. Andrew MacDonald officiating. Interment will follow in the Little Narrows Presbyterian Church Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or a charity of your choice.
