Billard - 66 yrs Patrick William "Pat" Glancey - 60 yrs Michael Bernard "Bernie" MacNeil - 85 yrs Emily Abbass - 86 yrs Mary Linda Serroul - 57 yrs Patrick William "Pat" Glancey - 60 yrs Catherine 'Kay' Viola Confiant Passed in: Georges River Passed on: December 16th, 2013 It is with heavy hearts that we announce the sudden passing of our mother, grandmother and great grandmother, Catherine 'Kay' Viola Confiant, on Dec. 16, 2013, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital. Mom was loved by everyone who knew her, always laughing and with a twinkle in her eye. She loved going to bingo and playing cards. She was predeceased by her parents, Ida May (Allen) and John Peter Young, loving husband, Raymond Confiant, sons, John 'Canuck', Billy 'Goat', infant Julia, sisters, Bernice, Grace, Ann, Jean, Margaret 'Sis', brothers, Francis, Steve, Roy and Fred. Mom is survived by daughters, Carol (Bill), Becky (Donald), Brenda; sons, Joe, Gerald 'Duck'; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; her sisters, Mildred, Phyllis and Maude; nieces and nephews. Visitation for Kay will be 2-4 and 7-9 p.m., Friday, in the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney. Funeral mass will be held 1:30 p.m., Saturday, at St. Joseph Church, Bras d'Or, with Rev. Jake Andrea officiating. Burial will take place at a later date in the parish cemetery. Billard Born In: North Sydney Passed in: North Sydney Passed on: December 16th, 2013 It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of David Billard, our dear husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend. David died peacefully, Monday, Dec. 16, 2013, surrounded by his loving family and friends, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Born in North Sydney, he was the only son of the late Lloyd and Elma (Vatcher) Billard. David had been employed with Marine Atlantic since he was a teenager. He began as a stevedore while still attending school and later, aboard the vessels as a steward, deck hand and finally as purser, retiring after 32 years of service. He would spend his retirement doing the things he enjoyed the most, "fair weather sailing" aboard his sailboat the "Beatrice M", brook fishing, small game hunting and being a handyman. He took great pleasure in working with wood and was very proud of having built his own home as well as the many renovations over the years. David is survived by his loving wife, Beatrice (Gillard) Billard; his two sons, Christopher (Tanya), North Sydney, Sheldon of Ottawa; his grandchildren, Emily and Rylee Billard; two step-grandchildren, Brandon Wall, Maggie Wall (Jason Whiffen) and their son, Colby; by his sisters, Caryl Yates, North Sydney, Pat (Charles) MacMaster, Sydney River, Cathy Billard, Sydney, Ann Billard, Point Edward; as well as aunts, nieces and nephews. Also surviving are his close friend and brother-in-law, Calvin Gillard, as well as his faithful companion, his beagle, Jake. Visitation for David will be 2-4 and 7-9 p.m., Thursday, in the W.J. Online condolences may be sent to www.wjdooley.com'Bernie' MacNeil - Emily Abbass - 86 yrs Mary 'Linda' Serroul - 57 yrs Patrick 'Pat' Glancey Born In: Sydney Passed in: Glace Bay Passed on: December 15th, 2013 Pat Glancey will be sadly missed and joyfully remembered. He was an amazing husband, father, brother and friend to all that knew him. Pat passed away peacefully at his residence on Sunday, Dec. 15, 2013 with his loving family at his side. Born in Sydney, Pat was the son of the late Peter and Martha (Hashem) Glancey. Pat was extremely active in the community and heavily involved in sports (baseball, boxing). To him, life was about the simple things. He was known as someone who would do anything for people he cared for. Pat never missed a chance to have a laugh. If we could hear one more time. . . "Where did you get that?" Pat will be sadly missed by his loving wife, Patricia (Slade); sons, Paul, Michael, Dale (Tammy), Scott (Tammy); sisters, Joan, Kathleen, Carolyn, Adele, Angela, Helen and brother, Mike. Also surviving are his cherished grandchildren, Colton, Kennedy, Samantha, Daxton and Jayden. The family are keeping with Pat's wishes, cremation has taken place. A funeral mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 21, 2013 in St. Anne's Church, Glace Bay with Fr. Leo Boone officiating. Interment will be held in the parish cemetery. Online condolences to the Glancey family are available through www.vjmcgillivray.ca Michael 'Bernie' MacNeil Born In: Sydney Passed in: Windsor, Ontario, Canada Passed on: December 3rd, 2013 We regret to announce the sudden passing of our brother, uncle and friend, Michael Bernard 'Bernie' MacNeil on Dec. 3, 2013 at Windsor Regional Hospital, Windsor, Ont. Born in Sydney, he was the son of the late, Michael Joseph and Margaret Jane 'Jennie' (MacArthur) MacNeil. Bernie worked for Sydney Steel as a furnace operator for many years. After his retirement he moved to Windsor, Ont., where he resided until his passing. Survived by sisters, Mary MacDonald and Agnes Johnston; sister-in-law, Margie MacNeil, all of Sydney; several nieces, nephews and cousins. Bernie was predeceased by brother, Arthur; sisters, Margaret MacNeil and Helen Bates; brothers-in-law, Johnnie MacDonald, Jack Johnston, John Bates and Archie MacNeil; goddaughter, Linda Townsend. Emily Abbass Passed in: Sydney Passed on: December 14th, 2013 It is with sadness that the family of Emily Abbass, 86, of Sydney, announce her sudden death at home on Saturday, Dec. 14, 2013. Emily was the daughter of the late Isaac and Materia (Khattar) Abbass. She was a life long member of Sacred Heart Church (St. Marguerite Bourgeois Parish) and was known by family and friends, alike, as a woman of deep faith and prayer. Aunt Emily loved her family and treasured her home and always enjoyed receiving visits from family and friends. She welcomed opportunities to assist those with less and was generous to many groups and individuals. Emily was the last surviving member of her immediate family and is survived by nieces and nephews, Dorothy Cooper, Lou Short, Darlene Green, Rev. Paul Abbass, Louise Irving, Blair Abbass and Melinda Abbass. She was predeceased by her parents; sister, Sadie Short; brothers, Louis and Abraham 'Abie'; brother-in-law, William T. Short and sisters-in-law, Jean (Louis) and Ebbie (Abie). She was also predeceased by nieces, Joanne Duplessis and Lewon Abbass. Visitation for the late Emily Abbass will take place at Sydney Memorial Chapel on Thursday, Dec. 19 from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. Mass of Resurrection will take place at Sacred Heart Church, Sydney on Friday, Dec. 20 at 10 a.m., with her nephew, Fr. Linda resided in Stoney Creek, Ont. for the past 38 years. She was predeceased by her parents, Bill and Isobel Serroul of Little Bras d'Or and sisters, Mary Dolores and Elizabeth. She is survived by sisters, Vivian, Regina and Sharon and brothers, Leo and Lorne. Cremation has taken place.
