He was the beloved husband and soul-mate of Michelle (Morrison) Tremblett for 35 years, and passed away peacefully surrounded by the ones he laughed with, lived for, and loved, on Tuesday, Dec. 3, 2013, at home. Born in Sydney Mines on May 19, 1960, he was the son of William and Ester (Butts) Tremblett. Terry was a labourer by trade, and was employed with Locals 92 and 1115 for over 30 years. Besides his wife and parents, Terry leaves behind to mourn his two children, Tara Lee (Stephen) Legacy, Edmonton, Alta., and Justin, Halifax; his two grandchildren, Jace and Jules, who were the sparkles in their Poppy's eyes. He loved them dearly. He is also survived by brothers, Billy (Judy) and Ernie, Sydney Mines, Freddy (Sherry) and Kevin, Surrey, B.C.; and sisters, Doris (Blair) Jessome and Brenda (John) Tremblett. He also leaves behind his longtime friend, Greg Jobes, who will miss their daily drives and coffee runs. Terry leaves behind a close friend and brother-in-law, Paul Morrison (Joanne); sister-in-law, Cathy and many nieces and nephews, aunts and uncles. Terry was predeceased by a sister, Barbara, and a special nephew, Jason Jessome. Visitation for Terry Tremblett will be held in J.M. Jobes Funeral Home today (Thursday, Dec. 5, 2013), from 7-9 p.m. A celebration of his life will take place on Friday at 11 a.m. in the funeral home chapel, with Fr. Patrick O'Neill officiating. Jessie Warr Born In: Bishop's Falls, Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada Passed in: Cole Harbour/North Sydney, Canada Passed on: December 3rd, 2013 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our mother, stepmother and grandmother Jessie Warr, 88, formerly of North Sydney, on Tuesday, Dec. 3, 2013, at Bisset Court Nursing Home in Cole Harbour, N.S. Born in Bishop's Falls, Newfoundland, Jessie was a daughter of the late William and Annie (Locke) Bennett. She was a member of the Pentecostal Church in Sydney and active in the women's ministries of the Church. She worked for a number of years for Northern Electric and the Parker Fountain Pen Company in Ontario. She is survived by her two sons, David (Sonya) Hawkins, Athabasca, Alberta, and Paul (Cindy) Hawkins, Lawrencetown, N.S.; her grandchildren, Carolina, Joshua, Aletia, Crystal and John Hawkins; great-grandchildren, Kallie, Summer, Lauren. She is also survived by a number of stepchildren, nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her first husband, Gordon Hawkins, and her second husband, Norman Warr, her sister, Daisy Fry, and brothers, Roland and Hubert Bennett. Born in North Sydney, he was the son of the late William and Annie Jane (Hawley) Penny. Alex was a coal miner working in #1 Colliery in Sydney Mines for many years. He was a member of St. Joseph Church, North Sydney. He is survived by his two brothers, Ambrose 'Bud' (Nellie) Penny and Jack (Claudia) Penny, both of North Sydney; and one sister, Sadie MacPherson, Sydney Mines. Also surviving are a number of nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by brothers George, Mansel and Gordon Penny. Visitation will be held for Alex for family, close friends and neighbours on Thursday evening from 7-9 p.m. in the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney. Ada Elizabeth (Cornforth) Waye Passed on: December 3rd, 2013 Ada Elizabeth Waye (née Cornforth), age 78, passed away peacefully on Dec. 3, 2013, in the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, surrounded by her loved ones. Born in Birch Grove, Ada was the daughter of the late Grace and Henry Cornforth. A beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, she was a life-long member of the Glace Bay Baptist Church and a founding member of the Genevieve Morrison Missionary Group. A beautiful singer and choir soloist, she was a kind and gentle woman who loved her church and family. Those who knew her were blessed. Ada is survived by her husband, Sam Waye; daughters, Phyllis Wallace (Ken, Delaware, OH) and Lisa (Mississauga, Ont.); son, Herb (Christine; Oxford Mills, Ont.); grandchildren, Andrew, Jillian, Michael, Shawn, and great-grandchild, Archer; sisters, Thelma Ashe (Birch Grove), Verta Barrington-Cassleman (Don; Brockville, Ont.), Rhoda Dowe (Larry, Glace Bay) and brother, Earl Cornforth (Marie, Catalone); sister-in-law, Blanche Murrant (Ed, Glace Bay); and many cousins, nieces, and nephews. Rodena 'Rhoda' MacAulay Born In: Framboise Richmond County Passed in: Sydney Passed on: December 3rd, 2013 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Rodena 'Rhoda' MacAulay on Tuesday, Dec. 3, 2013, at Mira Bay, Harbourstone Enhanced Care, Sydney. Born in Framboise, Richmond Co., she was the daughter of the late George and Mary (MacInnis) Morrison. Rhoda was a member of St. Andrew's United Church. She also enjoyed membership in the UCW, Ashby Guild, Rebekah Lodge and Home and School Association. She is survived by her sons, Gordon and Darrell, Sydney; 15 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and brother, Murdock Morrison, Thunder Bay, Ont. Besides her parents, Rhoda was predeceased by her husband of 74 years, Hector, four sons, Donald, John, Ken and Philip, three daughters, Barbara, Lorraine and Norma, three brothers, Donald John, Kenny Angus and John J., and three sisters, Jessie, Mary Jane and Malena Amero. A memorial service will be held at Sydney Memorial Chapel on Friday, Dec. 6 at 2 p.m., with Rev. Thomas Whent officiating. Interment in Hardwood Hill Cemetery at a later date. Condolences may sent to the family at www.sydneymemorialchapel.ca or e-mail [email protected] Hyman Solomon Goldberg Born In: Seattle Washington Passed in: Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada Passed on: December 3rd, 2013 Hyman Solomon Goldberg, 82, passed away at Parkstone Enhanced Care nursing home in Halifax on Tuesday, December 3, 2013, with his family by his side. 'Hymie', known by his friends, was born in Seattle, Washington, and raised in Saint John, N.B. He spent his working life in Sydney, N.S., where he raised his family. He graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Dalhousie University in 1953. Upon graduation, he went to work for his father in Glace Bay to help run a scrapyard business known as, Metal Processors Limited. He went back to university as a mature student, where he completed his Bachelor and Masters degrees in Education from Acadia and St. F.X. universities. In 1969, he joined the Nova Scotia Eastern Institute of Technology as an instructor and retired at the University College of Cape Breton (UCCB) in 1994. During his tenure at UCCB, he served as Director of the Performing Arts Series. In this role, he was responsible for attracting such world-renowned musicians as, classical guitarists, Liona Boyd and Michael Laucke, jazz legend, Oliver Jones and harpist, Loreena McKennitt. In 1977, he wrote and produced a documentary on Maritime Jewry that aired on CBC Radio. The documentary spoke to the challenges of growing up Jewish in small communities and the many challenges Jews faced when first arriving in the Maritimes from Eastern Europe. It featured the choir from Sydney's Temple Sons of Israel Synagogue, as well as several interviews with Jewish youth and seniors from communities throughout Nova Scotia and New Brunswick. In the mid 1980s, he and his wife, Rosalyn owned and operated a plant and gift boutique in Sydney. Upon retirement, he became heavily involved in the Sydney synagogue, The Temple Sons of Israel. With his lovely voice, he served as the local cantor, performing the Friday night and Saturday morning services. He also took art lessons in retirement and became an accomplished oil painter of seascapes.He was a huge fan of music, particularly the big band jazz era of the 1940s and the singer-songwriter era of the 1960s and 70s. Hymie was a loving and devoted husband and father. He cherished his wife, Rosalyn. He was heavily involved in his children's lives. He rarely missed a hockey game, a dance recital or dinner theatre production where his kids participated. He had a special place in his heart for his only grandchild, Sarah. Hymie is survived by his brother, Srole (George Schwalbe), Montreal; sister, Esther (Leonard Meiselman), Bedford, Massachusetts; brother-in-law, Lionel (Linda) Hirsch, Sydney; daughters, Lisa Goldberg, Halifax, and Rinah Goldberg (Chris Richards), Calgary; son, Lyle Goldberg (Della Morrison), Halifax; and granddaughter, Sarah Goldberg, Halifax. He was predeceased by his parents, Isaac and Bessie (Magonet) Goldberg and wife, Rosalyn (Hirsch). The family would especially like to thank the staff at Melville Heights, Arborstone, Parkstone Enhanced Care, and the Extended Care Paramedics for their dedicated support to Hymie during the last eight years of his life. A memorial service will be held Friday, Dec. 6, 11 a.m. at Sydney Memorial Chapel, 49 Welton St., Sydney. Interment in the Hebrew Cemetery. She is survived by three daughters, Edie (Dennis) Mockford, Susan (Allan) Pilotte and Jane ( Jean) Whiting; grandchildren, Angela (Todd) Kootenay, Ashley Whiting, Christie (Lyle) Reimer; two great- grandchildren, Ethan and Avery; as well as many close family and friends. She will be greatly missed by her furry friends. Beth was predeceased by her husband James. She was the daughter of the late Frank and Lillian Macpherson of Sydney, Nova Scotia. A Celebration of Life will take place at 11 a.m. on Dec. 5, 2013, at Connelly-McKinley St. Albert Funeral Home, 9 Muir Drive, St. Albert.
