Shadforth - James Hanely-Campbell Born In: Sydney Passed in: Louisbourg Passed on: December 26th, 2013 It is with broken hearts we the family of James Hanley Campbell announce the passing of our beloved son, brother, uncle, grandson and friend at the QEII, on December 26, 2013, in Halifax. All his life James fought a courageous battle with Cystic Fibrosis. Born in Sydney, James is survived by his loving mom and dad Ann & Harvey Morash, Louisbourg, and his father Roy Campbell, Sydney. James is also survived by his sisters, Amber (Barry), Chelsea (Kyle); and his brother Lucas. He is also survived by his grandparents Harvey and Shirley Morash, and his grandmother Betty Campbell. James also leaves to mourn his uncle Terry (Tasha) and aunts Marie (Barry), Sherry(Gene); also nieces Hannah and Stephanie; and nephew Owen; godchild Peyton MacLean; and his godmother Vivian Pellerin. James also leaves behind numerous cousins, great aunts and uncles. James was predeceased by his loving grandparents Jerry and Marion Hanley, and Poppy Aloysius (Wish) Campbell; also his uncles Chris, Donnie, Blair, and Stephen. Carolyn 'Girlie' MacKenzie Born In: North Sydney Passed in: Upper Leitches Creek Passed on: December 26th, 2013 It is with sad hearts that we announce the passing of Carolyn MacKenzie, loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and aunt on Thursday, December 26, 2013 at her home. Born in North Sydney, Carolyn was the daughter of the late Alexander and Caroline (Timbury) Maxwell. She was a member of St. Columba United Church, Leitches Creek. She is survived by her daughters Joanne (Bernie) Vassallo, Dingwall, Catherine MacKenzie (Hermie), Coxheath, Caroline (Victor) Vassallo, Balls Creek, Laurie MacKenzie, Frenchvale and Jody Marie MacKenzie, Coxheath; her sons, John (Karen), Kingston, On., Dean (Lois), North Sydney, Roger (Angela), Upper Leitches Creek, Lyle, Sydney, Tommy, Upper Leitches Creek, James (Maureen), St. Catharines, ON. Also surviving are her 29 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren; her sister Alberta 'Birt' (Carl) MacKeigan, North Sydney and sister-in-law Evelyn MacAdam, Sydney and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Sammie MacKenzie; an infant son Billy; brothers Kenny, Danny, George, Van; her twin brother Odie and her sister Anna. Anastasia Anderson Born In: Louisbourg Passed in: Dominion Passed on: December 25th, 2013 It is with profound sadness that the family of Anastasia Anderson of 71 Park Street, Dominion, announces her passing on December 25, 2013, at home with her loving family of five generations at her side. Born in Old Town, Louisbourg, she was the daughter of the late William Arthur Price and Mary Catherine Burke of Louisbourg. For a number of years she ran a small options home caring for people well into her 70's. She was fondly known as "Nana Park St". Anastasia was a devoted member of Immaculate Conception Church, Bridgeport. She is survived by Michael, at home, who looked after her the past number of years; daughters Barbara Prince, Beatrice Nugent, Rose (Clarence) Clements, Ont, Donna (Joey) Poirier, Debbie, Barbara Ann (Paul) Musial; 13 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren and 7 great-great-grandchildren; sister-in-law Mary Price, Louisbourg. She was predeceased by her husband James Livingston Anderson (1980); sons Robert (Feb 24, 1979) and James William in infancy; siblings James, Edward, William, Nicholas, Cyril Gordon, Mary, Marcella, Alice, Heneretta and Jenny; sons-in-law Marshall Prince and Edward Nugent; grandson Edward Nugent Jr. She was the last surviving member of her family. Catherine MacDonald Born In: Sydney Passed in: St. Marys, Ontario, Canada Passed on: December 24th, 2013 Nursing graduate of Royal Victoria Hospital Montreal, Class of 1936, nursing at St. Marys Memorial Hospital, later serving on the St. Marys Memorial Hospital Board, President of St. Marys Home and School Association, Past President of the St. Marys UCW, and very involved with the Canadian Cancer Society, passed away peacefully at her home in St. Marys, Ontario, December 24, 2013 at the age of 105. Beloved wife of the late Roderick F. MacDonald (1983). Dear mother of Daniel MacDonald and his wife Mary Ann of Brantford. Grandmother of Steven MacDonald of Cambridge, Michelle Hammill and her husband James of Cambridge, and Julie Fader and her husband Graham Walsh of Toronto. Survived by four great-grandchildren: Jack, William, Catherine and Frances. And fondly remembered by Lynne MacDonald of Hamilton. Sister of Roberta Clegg and Emily Bowman and predeceased by siblings Colin MacMillian (1993), Jessie Gretzinger (2008), Mary and John who both died in infancy, Robert (1918) and Herbert (1936). Catherine was born in Sydney, Nova Scotia, daughter of the late Daniel MacMillan and the former Weslena Armstrong. She will be remembered for her love of St. Marys and Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia, where she spent her summers. Ava Gillis (nee Brogan) Born In: Sydney Mines Born: May 26th, 1948 Passed on: December 22nd, 2013 Ava Gillis passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 22, 2013 at the age of 65 years. She will be lovingly remembered by her best friend and husband of 42 years, Leo; son James (Cathy); daughter Jennifer (Randy); precious grandchildren Emily, Robert, Rachel and Sydney; sisters Teresa (Dan) and Joanne (Leopold); brother Gary; and many more family and friends. She was predeceased by her parents Arthur and Anna and brother Michael. Ava was born and raised in Sydney Mines, NS. She was a graduate of the college of Cape Breton and moved to Calgary where she established a strong reliable reputation in the printing industry. She will be sadly missed by all who knew her. Rose Hillier Born In: Sydney Passed in: Halifax, Canada Passed on: December 25th, 2013 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Rose Mary (McQueen) Hillier early Christmas morning at the QEII Hospital in Halifax. Born in Sydney, she was the daughter of the late Sam and Kathleen (Richardson) McQueen. Rose will be remembered by her children and many others as being the sweetest, nicest person anyone could ever meet. She loved being on the go and keeping herself busy and was constantly improving her surroundings. Rose is survived by her sons, Jeff (Stephanie), Goose Bay, Greg (Misty), Halifax and Brad, Sydney; sisters, Kathleen, Margie and Donna; brothers, Joey, Wilfred and Billy; seven grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. Harriet Penticost Born In: Sydney Passed in: Sydney Passed on: December 19th, 2013 Died peacefully on December 19, 2013, at Cape Breton Regional Hospital in Sydney with her family by her side. Born January, 1949 in Sydney, Nova Scotia, she was the daughter of the late John (Jack) and Ethel (nee Wilson) Hillier. In her early years, Harriet was an avid dart player and was a member of the Nova Scotia Women's Dart Championship Team.Later, one of her proudest moments was returning to school after raising her family, obtaining her Certified Nursing Assistant diploma, and being awarded the trophy for "Best All Around Nursing Student". She was devoted to her house, and loved anything to with the beach, camping, fishing, crafting, and especially, shopping. Her pride and joy were definitely her two grandchildren, Jackson and Presley, whom she loved dearly and never tired of talking about. Harriet is survived by her husband of 46 years, Brian; their two sons, Mark (currently residing in China), Danny (Westmount); and daughter, Paula (Shayn) Scott and grandchildren, Jackson and Presley, whom she loved dearly, of Kelowna, BC. She is also survived by her brother Gary (June) Hillier; and sister Agnes (William) McMullin and special niece, Trudy (Todd Khattar) McMullin. Also, by her mother-in-law Alice, and the whole extended Penticost family, who supported and cared for her in her final days. We would like to send a special thank you to the staff of Cape Breton Regional Hospital who cared for mum - Dr. Bahram Forouzesh, the doctors and nurses in emergency, the nurses on 4A, and particularly her family physician, Dr. Mary Doyle. William Alexander 'Sandy' MacNeil Born In: Glace Bay Born: May 25th, 1946 Passed in: Sydney Passed on: December 25th, 2013 It is with great sadness that we, the family announce the passing of our dear husband, father and grandfather William Alexander (Sandy) MacNeil on Dec. 25, 2013, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital. Born in Glace Bay on May 25, 1946, he was the son of the late Daniel and Rose (Boone) MacNeil. He was employed for many years in the health care field as an orderly and housekeeping at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, as well as Nova Scotia Rehabilitation Centre and St. Vincent Guest House. Sandy was well known for his sense of humour, and those who knew him were usually at the receiving end of his mischievous ways. He was exceptionally kind to children and those in need. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family. He is survived by his loving wife of 39 years, the former Elizabeth (Betty) Rudderham; daughters, Joanne, Sydney, and Kelly (Mike) of Westmount; grandchildren, David, Troy, Rebecca, Alex and numerous nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by granddaughter, Jessica, brothers, Jim, Danny, Ronnie, Joe, sister, Patricia. A memorial service will be held Monday, Dec. 30 at 2 p.m. in the S.W. Chant & Son Funeral Home, 564 Alexandra St., Sydney, with Rev. Sheldon Chant officiating. Reception to follow. William F. Shadforth Passed on: December 25th, 2013 Our husband and father surrounded by his entire family passed away peacefully at home on Christmas day. Lovingly remembered in the hearts of his wife Dolores Bungay and his children Shelley, Niki, Deirdre (Ricci), Dana (Sheri); his grandchildren Todd, Kurt, Justine, Brianna, Hayley, Nicholas, Tye and great grandchildren Blake and Jordyn. Predeceased by his parents William and Alma Shadforth and his son William Jr. Survived also by his sisters Carol & Sandra, many nieces and nephews and their extended families and sadly missed by his sister-in-law Winnie. Our dad started his career in the Armed Forces where he served in the Provo Corp. He then changed careers and began working for the CSC until his retirement in 1996. He will always be remembered in his community for his involvement in sports and charities. Dad loved to coach kids whether it be baseball or hockey. In later years he enjoyed cheering/yelling from the stands for his grandsons or his favourite hockey team. Celebration of his life will take place on January 3rd, 2014 in St. Peter's Anglican Church, 4333 Bath Rd., Kingston at 12 noon with Rev. Dr. M Michielin officiating. Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. prior to the service. Private family interment at a later date.
