Cape Breton Deaths FEBRUARY 06, 2019 THURSDAY There were 4 obituaries published today CHARLES RICHARD EKSAL - JOSEPH ALPHONSE “BOBBY” HANRAHAN - 54 YRS PAUL MACKINNON - 87 YRS ROY MOORE - 71 YRS CHARLES RICHARD EKSAL - EKSAL, Charles Richard New Waterford It is with great sadness we announce the death of Charles Richard Eksal of New Waterford on February 4, 2020 at Harbourstone Enhanced Care, Sydney. Charlie was the son of the late Anna and Charles Eksal Sr. He is survived by his wife, Mary Eksal. Charlie is also predeceased by his loving son, Charles Daniel Eksal. He was the last of 6 siblings which include his sisters, Anne MacMillan, Mary Hutzol (William), Josephine O’Brien (Wallace); and brothers, Raymond Eksal (Hilda) and Richard Eksal (Violet). He was also survived by many nieces and nephews. Charlie was born in New Waterford and lived there his entire life. He worked for many years at Sydney Auto Parts in the machine shop, rebuilding car and truck engines and then, at the Lingan Mine from where he retired. Charlie was best known for his auto mechanics' abilities, but he also loved to hunt and fish. A special thanks to Tom and Dorothy Gale and the extended family of Stephen and Katie Horyl Sr. for their kindness, love, and support to Charlie over the past few years. I would also like to thank the staff at Harbourstone Enhanced Care (Saint Ann’s Bay section) for their devoted care of Charlie. Cremation has taken place. There will be no visitation. A celebration of life will be held at V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 380 Smith Street, New Waterford on a date to be announced. In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations directly to the New Waterford Food Bank or charity of your choice. Online expressions of sympathy may be sent to the family at: <> JOSEPH ALPHONSE “BOBBY” HANRAHAN - 54 YRS HANRAHAN, Joseph Alphonse (Bobby) Joseph Alphonse (Bobby) Hanrahan 1965-2020 formally of Dominion residing in Ontario passed away February 3, 2020 after fighting a long battle with illnesses. Condolences can be sent to Marlatt Funeral Home, 615 Main St. East, Hamilton Ontario L8M 1J4, <> PAUL MACKINNON - 87 YRS MacKINNON, Paul New Waterford It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Paul MacKinnon, age of 87, on January 17, 2020. Born in New Waterford, he was the son of the late Colin and Helen (MacLellan) MacKinnon. Paul was an avid fisherman and hunter, he also played floor hockey and softball in his early years, he loved to play cards and looked forward to his visits from his brother Collie. Paul was a coal miner having worked in #16 and #18 Collieries for many years, was a member of the Ironworkers Union Local 752 for 30 years and worked extensively across Canada. Paul is survived by his sister, Phemie Walzak, New Waterford; brother, Collie (Betty); and brother-in-law, Ervin McNeil; as well as many nieces and nephews, with whom he was very generous to throughout his lifetime. If there was some work that needed to be done, you could always count on Paul to be there to help. Besides his parents he was also predeceased by his sister, Anna; brother-in-law, Joe, Detroit, Michigan; sister, Florence(MacNeil), New Waterford; brother, Duncan; sister-in-law, Shirley, New Waterford; brother-in-law, Russell Walzak and baby, Colin, in infancy. Cremation has taken place. A chapel service will be held on Saturday, February 8, 2020 at 2 p.m., with Deacon Leo Penny officiating, followed by a luncheon at Saint Leonard’s Parish Hall on Convent Street. To send online condolences to the family go to: <> ROY MOORE - 71 YRS MOORE, Roy Glace Bay It is with heavy hearts that we announce the sudden passing of Roy William Moore, age 71 on Sunday, February 2, 2020 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney. Born in Glace Bay, he was the son of the late Robert and Eva (Campbell) Moore. Roy was a member of Epworth United Church, Glace Bay. He was a long-time employee of Modern Co-op. Roy was an avid hockey fan of the Screaming Eagles and Toronto Maple Leafs. He played many sports over the years which included soccer, broomball, hockey, baseball, floor hockey and bowling. Roy loved watching movies or playing a good game of cards. He enjoyed his time camping in Ben Eoin. Roy will be remembered as a very hard worker and a compassionate man. He was always there to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. He will be sadly missed by his loving wife, Doretta (Dunlop) Moore; daughters, Tammy Youden (John), Sherry Moore (Jonathan); and his son, Kyle Moore (Samantha); sisters, Bernice, Beatrice; and brothers, Cecil and Johnny. Roy is also survived by his 6 grandchildren, Haley, Declan, Madison, Brady, Emma and Ethan; whom he loved to the moon and back. Visitation is Thursday, February 6 from 2-4, 7-9 p.m. followed by a funeral service on Friday at 11 a.m., all in V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, Chapel & Reception Center, 16 Reserve Street, Glace Bay, Rev. Bonnie Wynn officiating. Interment at a later date in Greenwood Cemetery, Glace Bay.
