Inverness Oran Deaths courtesy of CAPE BRETON GENEALOGY & HISTORICAL ASSOCIATION VISIT OUR WEBSITE - < <>> <> NEW MEMBERS WELCOME Inverness Oran Deaths JANUARY 05, 2020 WEDNESDAY There were 3 new obituaries published today O’NEILL (LEBLANC), MATILEA “TILLIE” - 95 YRS GILLIS, DONALD DANIEL “DD” - 74 YRS POIRIER, JOSEPH “ARTHUR” - 87 YRS O’NEILL It is with great sadness that the family of the late Matilda “Tillie” O’Neill announce her passing at the Western Memorial Regional Hospital on Sunday, January 26th, 2020, at the age of 95 years. She will be sadly missed by her son Chip (Jackie) in Fort Saskatchewan; her four daughters, Elaine O’Neill in Kippens, Cora (Calvin) Watkins in Fort McMurray, Marie O’Neill in Fort McMurray, and Cindy O’Neill (Rankin) in Cape Breton. She also leaves to mourn her precious grandchildren, Marty, Wanda, Spencer, Josh, Dawn, Jenine, Sheryl, Neill, Beth, Davis, Tyson, Abby, Izzy, and Olivia; her precious great-grandchildren, Jude, Shea, Devon, Frasier, Daisy, Violet, Wynter, Jacob, Vayda, Chase, Nevaeh, Zoe, Quinn, Kane, Kallie, Kashton, and Gordi along with other relatives and friends. She was predeceased by her husband Remi; her parents Placid and Catherine LeBlanc; her siblings, Lucy, Bill, Jack, Mary, Hughie, Ida, Dot, and Tom. Tillie touched many lives. She truly saw the good and value in others, and she readily welcomed everyone into her home for a cup of tea, a lunch, a chat, and a laugh. She had the most incredible zest for life. She loved family, humour, food, playing cards, music, painting, and having a crowd in for a party. In the big kitchen in heaven, Tillie has already started on a new batch of meat pies. The family received friends at Russell’s Funeral Home in Stephenville on Monday January 27th and on Tuesday January 28th. Funeral services took place on Wednesday, January 29th from St. Stephen’s Parish on West Street. Interment of ashes took place on Thursday, January 30th, in Hillside Interfaith Cemetery. As expressions of sympathy, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of one’s choice in Tillie’s memory. GILLIS Donald Daniel “DD” Gillis (D Bi), 74, of Blackstone, formally of Gillisdale. We regret to announce the passing of Donald Daniel "DD" Gillis on Friday, January 31st, at home surrounded by his loving family. “DD” was born June 3rd, 1945, in Inverness, Nova Scotia, to the late Alexander Joseph Gillis (d.1963) and Mary Josephine (MacLellan) Gillis (d.1991). We have lost a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend. Dad loved spending time with family, especially for the big family summer gatherings and birthdays, his coffee dates with Mom, fishing with his grandchildren, and working on old rigs with his sons and daughter while enjoying a cold beer on a hot day. He is survived by his wife, Annabelle (MacPherson) Gillis; his daughter, Carrie Ann (George) Campbell; his sons, Daniel Joseph, Hugh Jason (Lynn), and Glenn; grandchildren, Cheyenne, Keltin, Brittany, Alex, Jordon, Breanne, Isaiah, and Bryson; great-grandchildren, Noah, Hailey, Zachary, Michael, Emma, Aria, Amelia, Aubrey, Drew and Avery; brothers and sisters, Josephine, Mary Flora (Stephen), Anne (Hugh), Minnie, Stewart (Mary Catherine), Earl, Angus (Kaye), Rhoda (Stan), John, Cassie (Hugh), Susan, Stephen (Mary), Hughena, Theresa, and Archie (Ruth) and many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. Besides his parents, DD is predeceased by sister, Olive and brother, Alexander. Visitation was Tuesday, February 4th, in Inverness Funeral Home. Funeral mass was held Wednesday, February 5th at 11:00 a.m. in Immaculate Conception Church, West Lake Ainslie, with Father Bernie MacDonald officiating. Burial at a later date. Memorial donations may be made to Central Inverness Palliative Care Society. Online condolences may be made to: POIRIER Joseph “Arthur” Poirier, age 87, Cheticamp, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Monday, January 27th, in the Sacred Heart Community Health Centre, Cheticamp. Arthur was the son of the late Bennie (Auguste) and Marie (Deveau) Poirier. Arthur worked in the logging industry as a lumberjack. He also worked at the local fish plant and did carpentry work for Cheticamp Boat Builders. Arthur is survived by his partner of 34 years, Marie Jeanne AuCoin; son, Paul Angus Poirier; daughters, Madelaine Poirier (Eddy Boudreau) and Denise Poirier; daughters-in-law, Diane Poirier and Laurette Poirier; sister, Rose Yvonne Bonnel; grandchildren, Fidel Poirier, Isabelle Poirier, Nathalie Poirier, and Marc Poirier; great grandchildren, Emilie Scholfield, Bennett Scholfield, Caileigh Poirier, Josslyn Poirier, and Eliana Chiasson Poirier. He was predeceased by his wife Bella (Roach) Poirier; sons, Gerard Poirier, Willie John Poirier, Victor Poirier; son-in-law, Gélas Poirier; brothers, Placide, Wilfred, Auguste, Henry, Paul; sisters, Lucy Anne, Julie Anne, and Zabeth. Cremation has taken place. There was no visitation. Funeral mass was celebrated on Friday, January 31st, 2020, at Église St. Pierre, Cheticamp with Father Pierre Antoine St. Cyr officiating. Burial in the parish cemetery at a later date. Funeral was under the direction of Cheticamp Funeral Services Ltd. Condolences may be sent to:
