Born in Louisbourg, she was the daughter of the late Elvin and Mildred Fleet. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her loving husband, Frank Kozera. Yvonne enjoyed spending time with her family, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a resident of Harbourstone and considered them family and always was ready to lend a hand, she enjoyed making the staff and other residents smile. She will be dearly missed. Mom is survived by her loving children, Judy Kozera (Leonard), Louisbourg, Loretta (Sheldon) Squires, Big Bras d’Or, Frank (Valerie) Kozera, Ottawa; seven grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sisters, Shirley Kennedy, Louisbourg, Helen Bishop, P.E.I., as well as many nieces and nephews. James 'Jim' Ivey Born In: Sydney Mines Passed in: Sydney Mines Passed on: January 19th, 2014 It is with heartfelt sadness we announce the sudden passing of James Raymond Ivey, age 80, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and uncle on Sunday, Jan. 19, 2014, at his home. Born in Sydney Mines, Jim was the son of the late George and Elizabeth (Costello) Ivey. He worked for many years in the United States as a truck driver. James was a member of Holy Family parish, Sydney Mines. He was also a member of Fr. William Keily Council, Knights of Columbus and a former member of the Royal Canadian Legion, branch 19. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Jean (Maxwell) Ivey; his sons, Bruce Ivey, Shenacadie, George Ivey, Millville, James (Tracey) Ivey, Sydney Mines; his daughters, Elizabeth 'Betty Jean' Ivey, British Columbia, Corinne Ivey (Gerald Pearcey), North Sydney, his 10 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; his brothers, Bert, Sydney Mines, Ronnie (Claudia), North Sydney; and sister, Jean (Harvey) MacArthur, Truro; his brothers and sisters-in-law, Dan Maxwell, Sydney Mines, Bob (Ann) Maxwell, New Glasgow, Jack (Raye) Maxwell, Sydney Mines, Peggy (Martin) MacIsaac, North Sydney, Russell Crews, North Sydney, Colleen Maxwell, Ontario, and Joan Ivey, New Brunswick; also several nieces and nephews. Philip Westbury Born In: Truro, Nova Scotia, Canada Born: February 28th, 1913 Passed in: Glace Bay Passed on: January 21st, 2014 Philip passed away peacefully on Jan. 21, 2014 at Taigh Na Mara in Glace Bay. Born Feb. 28, 1913 in Truro to Arthur and Mae (MacLeod) Westbury, Philip was orphaned at the age of four when he was taken in and raised by Elizabeth and Wilson Grant in Glace Bay. He lived a long and happy life full of adventure and travel. In his youth Philip played with the championship Caledonia Rugby Team. In his twenties he crewed on the last commercial sailing schooner from Louisbourg to the West Indies. He served in the navy during the Second World War and after working for the town of Glace Bay for a number of years, he and his wife Essa and their family moved to Ontario where he served as director of Emergency Measures Organization for York County. They retired to a beautiful property in New Harris from where they travelled the world. During this time Philip and Essa served with CUSO for two years in Sierra Lione and southern Sudan. Dad was a dedicated member of many bands and played a variety of musical instruments. He was never happier than when surrounded by family, friends, music, and story telling. Philip is survived by his daughters, Phyllis Westbury, Anne O'Neill and son, Wes; grandchildren, Kate O'Neill, Nigel and Paige Westbury and great-grandchildren, William, Julia, and Sam. He is also survived by his foster siblings, Chris Fitt, Annie Green, Betty Phillips and Donald Grant. Philip was predeceased by his wife of 65 years, Essa (Ethel) Payne; his foster siblings, Alistair and Ernest Grant and his Westbury siblings, William, Edith, Gertrude, Mae and Robert. Cremation has taken place. Based on Dad's wishes there will be no service. Many thanks to all of the staff at Taigh Na Mara for their kindness and care for Dad during his four years there. Patrick Gallivan Born: August 23rd, 1928 Passed in: Sydney Passed on: January 19th, 2014 It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of our husband, father, grandfather and uncle, Patrick Gallivan. Pat passed away on Sunday, Jan. 19, 2014, at Celtic Court in Sydney, surrounded by his loving family. Born in Sydney on Aug. 23, 1928, he was the eldest son of the late Thomas and Eva (Fougere) Gallivan. A master carpenter by trade, he worked for the City of Sydney. In his younger years, Pat traveled the world with the Canadian Merchant Marines. He also worked for the Dominion Coal Company at the International Piers, alongside his father and brother. He was always very proud of his membership in the Canadian Seaman’s Union and later, the United Mine Workers of America, of which, he was recording secretary for Local 7749 for many years. During his retirement, he traveled extensively with his loving wife, Mary. He also took up watercolor painting and was proud to follow his brother by being the featured artist for Pier Scapes in 2008. Pat will be forever missed by his loving wife of 61 years, Mary (Sajatovich); sons, Gary (Debbie), Sydney, Kevin (Dr. Cathy Adams), Saint John, N.B. and Tom (Maria), Ottawa; daughters, Patricia (Warren) Young, Melbourne, Australia and Colleen (Don) Pettitt, Whitby, Ont. Pat is also survived by his seven grandchildren, whom he loved dearly, Evan and Dylan Young, Charlotte Gallivan, Michael, Vittoria, Thomas and Julia Gallivan, as well as his nephews, Dr. Glenn, Kelly and Tim Gallivan and his sister-in-law, Anna. Besides his parents, Pat was predeceased by his only brother, Austin “Bud” Gallivan in 2013. The family would like to take this opportunity to express their sincere gratitude to the fantastic angels at Celtic Court for the wonderful care they gave Pat during his illness. Also, thank you is extended to Dr. Murdock Smith and Dr. Ritter. There will be no visitation for the late Mr. Gallivan. Upon request, cremation has taken place. A celebration mass will be held at Holy Redeemer Church on Friday 11 a.m., with Rev. Paul Murphy officiating. Following the service, a reception will be held in the church basement. Born in Sydney on March 7, 1915, Madeline was the daughter of the late James and Elizabeth (Heaney) Keough. Mom was also predeceased by her husband, Ivan Paul Fitzgerald in July 1975; sister, Mary 'Mamie' Keough and brothers, Gerald, Ronald, Pierce and Joe Keough. Mom was fortunate to have lived her life to the fullest in the Pier having lived her final years in the home that her father purchased when she was 12. She was a member of Holy Redeemer Church and a past president and life member of the CWL. Mom will be lovingly remembered by her children, Jim (Joyce) Fitzgerald and Miles Fitzgerald; brother, Jimmy Keough; sister, Anna Letourneau and grandchildren, Kennedy, Keigan and Liam Fitzgerald. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews who cared for her dearly. There will be no visitation at Mom’s request. Funeral mass will be celebrated on Saturday, Jan. 25, 2014 at 11 a.m. in Holy Redeemer Church with Fr. Paul Murphy officiating. A reception following the mass will be held at the church. Interment will take place in Resurrection Cemetery, Sydney Forks. Donations in memory of Madeline may be made to the An Cala Palliative Care unit at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital. The family extends a special thank you to Beverley Keough McCarthy for the support given to mom throughout her final years.
