Cape Breton Deaths courtesy of CAPE BRETON GENEALOGY & HISTORICAL ASSOCIATION VISIT OUR WEBSITE - <http://www.cbgen.org/>www.cbgen.org NEW MEMBERS WELCOME Inverness Oran Deaths January , 2014 Wednesday There were 5 obituaries published this week Alexander Joseph Beaton - 79 yrs Auguste Deveaux - 80 yrs Parker MacInnis - 73 yrs William Bowden Murphy - 73 yrs Jean (Fraser) Roche - BEATON Alexander Joseph Beaton passed away peacefully on Friday, December 6th, 2013, at Wellington Park Care Centre, Burlington, at the age of 79. He was the beloved husband of Donna Beaton; loving father of Cheryl, Dave (Sarah), Janice Petrina (Joe) and Darrell (Paige); cherished grandfather of Michael, Rob, Candis, Alyssa, Meaghan, Ella and Cooper and great-grandfather of Rogan. Alex will be dearly missed by his siblings Hugie, Sylvia and Harold. He is predeceased by his parents David and Effie and siblings Duncan, Rose, Burke and Robert. Alex will be remembered for his love of old cars, hockey and baseball. He was a dedicated family man known for his generosity, caring and charity work through the Lions Club and the Knights of Columbus. Alex had an incredible work ethic with 38 years of employment at Stelco and another 18 years at St. Raphael’s Parish. Special thank you to the staff at Wellington Park for their care and compassion. Cremation has taken place. Mass was celebrated ! at St. Raphael’s Roman Catholic Parish, 4072 New Street, Burlington on Wednesday, December 11th, 2013 at 10:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers, those wishing to make a donation in memory of Alex are asked to please consider the Alzheimer Society. DEVEAUX Auguste Deveaux, age 80, of 27 Chemin Shomphe, Cheticamp, died January 7th, 2014 at home. Born in Cheticamp to the late Charles and Annie (Deveau) Deveaux, Auguste grew up in Cheticamp and worked in the fishing industry. He liked to hunt, go for drives in his van, and watch his beloved Montreal Canadiens. He also liked his fiddle music. Auguste had good friends in Cheticamp. He is survived by sister-in-law Vera Deveaux, Sydney; several nieces and nephews; great-nieces and great-nephews. He was predeceased by brothers Leo, Marcellin, Timothy; sisters Elizabeth MacIntosh, Margaret Mary Deveaux. The body was cremated. Funeral mass was held on Saturday, January 11th at 10:30 a.m. in St. Peter’s Church, Cheticamp, interment in the parish cemetery. Condolences may be sent to: [email protected] t MacINNIS Parker MacInnis passed away peacefully December 23rd at the Lisaard Hause in Cambridge after a year-long battle with cancer at the age of 73. Parker was the beloved husband of CB (MacIsaac), loving father to Lorena (Joe Grech) and the late Rod (2011). He was predeceased by his parents Ronald and Dolena; brother Tim and sister Heather. He leaves behind a brother, Vernon (Shirley), Toronto; sister Myrtle (Don MacLeod, N.H.); four grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Visitation was held December 28th in Toronto followed by cremation. MURPHY William Bowden Murphy, age 73, passed away on Thursday, January 9th, 2014, in Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney, surrounded by family. Bowden was a son of the late John K. and Emma May (Reynolds) Murphy. Born in Inverness on March 3rd, 1940, he was a member of St. Peter’s Church, Port Hood. Bowden in his lifetime enjoyed what he did best, farming the land and harvesting the ocean. He will be sadly missed by his family, neighbours, and all who came to know him. He is survived by his wife, Sadie (Ryan), of 50 years; sons William Keating (Karen), Port Hood; John P. (Gail Gibbons), Port Hawkesbury; Phonsey, Williams Lake, B.C.; Darrell (Stephanie), Port Hood; daughters Ellen (Rodney Gillis) Murphy, Port Hood; Elaine (John) McDonald, Ladner, B.C. He is also survived by sisters Bernice O’Laughlin and Myrna White; 13 grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. Bowden is predeceased by infant son Alphonsus G.; brothers Kenny, Douglas; sisters Mildred Nicholson, Lurline MacDonald, Ca! theline MacIsaac and Gwenolyn Layden. Family visitation was held on Monday, January 13th, in St. Peter’s Church, Port Hood, from 10:00-10:45 a.m. with funeral mass following at 11:00 a.m., Fr, Vincent vanZutphen officiating, burial to take place at a later date. ROCHE Jean (Fraser) Roche passed away on September 11th, 2013 after a brief stay at the Lakeshore General Hospital in Point Claire, Quebec. Jean was the daughter of Jessie and George Fraser of Inverness and the beloved wife of Gerald Roche, who passed away in 1980. Jean was the mother of Howard Rankin (died Oct 29th, 2013), Michael Rankin, Donna (Rankin) Benoit and Debra Roche Mathau; she also leaves behind many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Jean will be sadly missed by her family and her many friends. She especially enjoyed her dear friends at the Vila St. Louis where she lived for the past 15 years. Jean was born in Inverness and moved to Montreal in the 1930s as a young woman where she lived for the remainder of her life. She especially enjoyed the company of friends and serving and helping others. She had many interesting jobs which she cherished during her career such as working for the Montreal School for the Blind. She will be fondly remembered for her sharp wit, f! riendly jokes, great advice and of course her delicious cooking. A memorial service will be held for Jean in late summer, 2014 in Inverness.
