Born Feb. 25, 1945, in Neils Harbour, he was the son of the late John Neilie and Edith (MacDonald) Macleod. He was a member of Aspy Bay United Church, Aspy Bay. Being a member of the Sydney Curling Club, Wally was an avid and well-known curler in the 1970s. During that time Wally made many friends while working for Eastern transport in Sydney. Upon returning to Dingwall, Wally (with wife Margaret MacNeil and family) managed and operated the Highland Heart Canteen. Wally was also employed as a dockside monitor for Department of Fisheries and eventually worked and retired with Canada Post. Some of Wally's favourite hobbies were going to square dances, Celtic music, playing guitar and his passion for sports, especially hockey. He was a true blue Leafs fan till the very end. Wally's time was spent enjoying time with his best friend and devoted partner Rose and her family who meant the world to Wally. His love for pets was felt by Bear his cat whom Wally cherished. Although Wally made many friends throughout the years Burt Doucette was the one closest to his heart. Wally is survived by his daughter, Debbie Macleod, Sydney; son, Scott Macleod, Edmonton; grandchildren, ,Jordan, Jessica, Joey, Ryan, his beloved Rose and her family. He is also survived by brothers, Arnold (Claire) Macleod, Baddeck, and Neiland (Carol ) Macleod, Dingwall; a special aunt, Hectorine; many nieces, nephews and cousins. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his brother, Alexander Macleod, niece, Melanie Macleod and special friend, Mary MacDonald. Walter’s family would like to extend a special thank you to Janice and the staff at the Buchanan Memorial Hospital and Wanda Barron with palliative care services for making Wally's journey a peaceful one. In honoring Wally’s wishes, no visitation will be held. A celebration of his life will take place at Aspy bay United Church on Thursday, Jan. 30 at 1 p.m. with Rev. Margie Wood officiating. Christina Saccary Born In: Glace Bay Passed in: Bridgeport Passed on: January 26th, 2014 It is with sadness we announce the passing of our mother, Christina (Lynk) Saccary, 93, on Jan. 26, 2014, at Seaview Manor. Born in Glace Bay, she was the daughter of the late Hector and Mary (MacNeil) Lynk. In her earlier years she was a member of Chalmer’s CGIT. After marriage Christina was involved with the Immaculate Conception CWL. She was also a member of the Bridgeport School Auxiliary and Row Street AC Club. In her later years she became a member of the Glace Bay Pensioner’s Club. Mom spent many years working as a nurse’s aide, a job she cherished. Mom is survived by two daughters, Elizabeth 'Rene' Wall, Glace Bay, Mary Saccary, Toronto; and two sons, Hector (Patricia), Saskatchewan, and Tim (Jeanette), Dominion18 18 cherished grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Leo, sons, Sheldon, Gerard, James, twin sister, Mary O’Neill and nephew, Freddie O’Neill. There will be no visitation at Christina’s request. Cremation has taken place under the care and guidance of V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, Glace Bay. Interment will take place at a later date. Catherine 'Belle' Bonang Born In: Sydney Passed in: Westmount, Canada Passed on: January 27th, 2014 With heartfelt sadness we announce the passing of our loving mother and grandmother, Catherine Isabel 'Belle' Bonang, 86, on Monday, Jan. 27, 2014, at the Northside General Hospital after a brief illness with her family by her side. Born in Sydney, she was the daughter of the late Alfred and Matilda (LeBlanc) Haynes. Belle was a kind, loving and happy person who always had a smile for everyone and enjoyed spending time with her family and grandchildren. In her earlier years she loved shopping, fishing and hunting. She was a member of Holy Rosary Church in Westmount. She is survived by her two sons, David Bonang, Brooklyn, N.S., Bruce (Marianne) Bonang, Westmount; her two daughters, Sharon Bonang, North Sydney, and Marie (Earl) Musgrave, Shenacadie, with whom she resided for the past year. Also surviving are her six grandchildren Davis, Shannon, Denise, Michael, Vicki and Zoe. Besides her parents, Belle was predeceased by her husband Ralph Bonang. The family wishes to thank the Cape Breton County Homemakers Agency for all their support during the past year, the Palliative Care and ER staff at the Northside General Hospital for the excellent care shown to our family as well as our mother. Mary Elizabeth 'Betty' MacLeod Born In: North Sydney Born: October 23rd, 1916 Passed in: North Sydney Passed on: January 26th, 2014 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Mary Elizabeth 'Betty' MacLeod, 97, on Sunday, Jan. 26, 2014, at Harbourstone Enhanced Care in Sydney. Born in North Sydney on Oct. 23, 1916, the daughter of the late William and Ada (Adams) Burrows, Betty was the last surviving member of her family. She was a member of St. Matthew Wesley United Church, North Sydney, and at one time a choir member, member of the UCW and the Eastern Star Lodge. She was a former member of St. Columba Church, Leitches Creek. Betty was a kind, gentle and loving soul and had a very friendly nature with a smile for everyone. She was a great saleslady, having worked at Meloney’s Shoe Store in North Sydney for over 15 years. Betty is survived by one niece, Betty Anne MacDonald (Gary Fitzgerald), Cambridge, N.S., and by her sisters-in-law, Helen Bennett, Muriel MacInnis and Marjorie MacInnis. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her first husband Alexander MacInnis and her second husband Gordon MacLeod, her brother Walter Burrows and his wife Mary and her sister Jean and her husband Stan Brown. Online condolences may be sent to www.wjdooley.com Angus Campbell Born: July 30th, 1955 Passed in: New Waterford Passed on: January 24th, 2014 It is with heavy hearts that we announce the sudden passing of our loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend to many, Angus Gerard Campbell on Jan. 24, 2014, surrounded by his loving family. Born July 30, 1955, he was the son of the late Colin and Nellie (Hawley) Campbell. Angus, a very proud 40-year member of U.A. Local 682 Plumbers and Pipefitter and served as vice-president for many years. He worked as a plumber/pipefitter for greater than 40 years working in many provinces. Angus was a faithful member of St. Leonard’s parish. He was also a member of the Army, Navy & Air Force Veterans #217. Angus enjoyed watching sports in particular the Montreal Canadiens. He enjoyed a good card game like cribbage, tarabish, and 45s, especially with his best friend, father-in-law Eddie Tighe. He was an exceptional pool player (by reputation). Angus was a hard worker and good provider. He loved to spend time with family and friends and always willing to lend a hand to any. He gave generously of his talents. Angus had a wonderful sense of humour and displayed his beautiful smile “full time”. A consummate grandfather; Brandon was indeed “the apple of his eye”. His “best little buddy” furry friends Zoey and Keith will certainly be aware of his absence. He is survived by his loving wife of 37 years, Mary (Tighe); daughter Natashia (Ronnie) McSween; sons Christopher (Christina) & Matthew (Tiffany) and grandson Brandon. Left to mourn also are siblings, Colleen (Joseph) Piccolo; John (Patricia), Kay (James Hogan), Brian (Theresa), Anne (Cyril) Boudreau, Theresa Macdonald, Nellie (Jeff Chung), Charles (Florence), Michael (Lynann) Colin (Michelle S. Bignell), Patricia (Brian MacSween) Bradley (Linda) along with sister-in-law Sheila. Numerous aunts, uncles,nieces & nephews will miss him dearly. Besides his parents he was predeceased by his mother-in-law Anita (McIssac) Tighe and brother–in-law Clive Macdonald. Cremation has taken place. Mary Matilda White Passed in: Glace Bay Passed on: January 26th, 2014 It is with great sadness and love that the family of Mary Matilda (Meade) White announce the passing of their wonderful mother, sister, aunt, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother and friend. She passed away at her home peacefully on Jan. 26, 2014. Mary has been a longtime resident of Nolan’s Lane Seniors Complex. She worked at St. Anne’s Convent for 16 years and then devoted the rest of her life to her children and her ever expanding family. The children were the “light of her life”. She loved to bake and would always bake their favourite oatmeal cookies, earning her the title of “Cookie Nannie”. Mary was a devoted Christian all her life. She was a member of Epworth United Church until its closure and then Knox United Church. Mary was an inspiring person who touched the lives of all who knew her. She was the daughter of Simon Meade and Irene (Manuel) Meade. She was predeceased by her husband, Bob, her son, Robert, sisters, Evelyn, Irene,brothers, Santford, Churchill, Douglas and Sidney. Mary is survived by her daughter, Irene Hobson; sisters, Kay Roffey-Dampier, Ronlana McDonald, Ina Castilloux and Sonja Coulas, all residing in Ontario. Also surviving are daughter-in-law, Lorraine White; four grandchildren, Bob White, Laurie (Shawn) Cole, Leslie White, Troy (Tania) White; 11 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren, all residing in Glace Bay. Also left to mourn are numerous nieces, nephews and her longtime friends, Valerie and Mim. Born in New Castle, N.B., Doris was the daughter of the late Gordon S. and Gertrude E. (Devereau) Ullock. She was a longtime member of Immaculate Conception Church, St. Vincent de Paul Society and Immaculate Conception Nursery School. Doris will be sadly missed by her daughters, Debbie (Derrick) Gilbert, Glace Bay, Donna MacDonald, Ontario; sons, Donald (Isabell), Upper Tantallon, N.S., Allan (Chris), Ontario, Scott (Margo), Beechville, N.S.; sister, Helen (Murray) Dunnett, Fredericton, N.B.; brother, John (Jean) Ullock, Newcastle, N.B.
