Nina Jessome Born In: Burgeo, Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada Passed in: North Sydney Passed on: February 5th, 2014 It is with heartfelt sadness we announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother and sister, Nina Jessome, age 94, on Wednesday, Feb. 5, 2014 at the Northside General Hospital. Born in Burgeo, Nfld., Nina was the daughter of the late Henry and Annie Mae (Billard) Standing. Nina enjoyed knitting, sewing and quilting and spending time with her family. She is survived by her two daughters, Patricia 'Patsy' (Maurice) Tobin, Stoney Creek, Ont., Lois Jessome, Sydney, her two sons William Jessome, Sydney and Frederick (Tonia) Jessome, Ball’s Creek, her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, her sister Jessie Williams, Halifax, nieces and nephews. Nina was predeceased by her husband, Chalmers Jessome; her sisters, Alma Seury, Freda Clarke and Ivy Horton and stepsisters, Cora Thorton and Ada. There will be no visitation by request. A funeral service for Nina will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday in the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Carl Fraser officiating. Burial will take place in Lakeside Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to The War Amps. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney. John MacEachern Born In: Maple Brook Inverness County Born: January 23rd, 1926 Passed in: Port Hawkesbury, Nova Scotia, Canada Passed on: February 1st, 2014 John MacEachern, 88, Port Hawkesbury, peacefully passed away Saturday, Feb.1, 2014, in the Port Hawkesbury nursing home. John was born Jan. 23, 1926, to the late John A. and Sarah Anne (Gillis) MacEachern, in Maple Brook, Inverness County. John lived in Maple Brook until he joined the Canada Army in 1944. He was part of the Occupational Forces and discharged in 1946. He then completed high school at the Canadian Veteran’s Training School in Moncton. He attended St. Francis Xavier University graduating with a B.Arts in 1952 and B. Ed in 1953. John taught in Bras d’Or at Point Edward Navel base. In 1957, he joined the Vocational Education Division and from 1958-62 he served as Supervisor of Correspondence Instruction. In 1958 he married Catherine E. 'Kaye' Burke formerly of North Sydney. During 1962-63 he was Supervisor of Vocational High Schools. He joined the staff of the Cape Breton Regional Vocational School as vice-principal in 1963. In 1968 he became the first principal of the Canso Regional Vocational School until he retired with over 30 years of service in Vocational Education in 1986. John is survived by his wife, Kaye; daughter, Anne Marie (Gary) Westenenk, North Bay, Ont.; son, Ian, Sedgwick, Alberta; son, Blaise (Cheryl Baldwin) Port Hawkesbury; son, Kevin (Dorraine Brophy), Dundee; daughter, Patricia, Halifax. Poppa John had 11 grandchildren, Gerda, Daniel, Heather, Kyle, Emily, Nicole, Katie, Jenna, Siobhan, Jade and Erin. John was predeceased by his parents and siblings, Jessie Burchell, Allan, Donald, Mary, Tena Lamey, and Malcolm. Visitation will be from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. with vigil service at 7 p.m. (today) Friday in Dennis Haverstock Funeral Home, Port Hawkesbury. Funeral mass will be 10 a.m. Saturday from St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church, Port Hawkesbury, with Fr. Conrad Edwards officiating. Burial in the parish cemetery. Donations can be made to the Alzheimer’s Society of Nova Scotia, Canadian Cancer Society or to St. Joseph Parish Building Fund. Words of comfort may be forwarded to the family at: www.haverstocks.com. Willam Robert Windsor William Robert Windsor passed away at the Ivey Terrace Nursing Home, Trenton, N.S. on Dec. 21, 2013. Born in Dominion, he was the son of the late William and Charlotte (Fortune) Windsor of Dominion. Buzz as he was called by family and friends was a very talented and respected carpenter, boat builder and building inspector. He is survived by his wife, Jenny (McLean); seven daughters, three sons, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Predeceased by daughter, Charlotte and infant son, James Bernard. Also survived by sisters, Dorothy Mackie, Kennedy Drive, Glace Bay formerly from Dominion, Joyce Chiasson, Victoria Haven; brother, Melvin (Sonny) Windsor, Reserve Mines. Burial took place in New Glasgow.
