He was born June 16, 1932 in Mason Point, Nova Scotia and was raised in Hays River. Predeceasing him was his former wife, Beulah Bowman, his mother and father, Agnes (Beaton) and Dan Malcolm Walker, and his brother, Finlay. He is survived by two brothers, John (Joan) and Vincent (Jean) of Hays River; two sisters, Mary (Gaston, deceased) of Centerville and Hughena (Colin) of Port Hood. He will be sadly missed by his five children; Valerie (Ontario), Joan (Elmsdale), Shirley (Wayne) (Oshawa), Sandi (Donald) (Port Hood), and Malcolm (Port Hood). He has thirteen grandchildren, and eleven great-grandchildren; Abbey (Liam, Bree), Sharlene (Katie, Baillie, Cole, Jackson), Michael (Brooke, Quintin, Zoe), Angela (Cameron, Mary Jane), David, Jordan, Laura, Jeffery, Selena, Darren, Cody, Bret, and Karlee, who will miss his many treats and kind words. Dixie spent the latter part of the fifties and sixties in northern Ontario working in the mines. In 1972, an opportunity opened for him to move his family home to Cape Breton, where he was then employed as Maintenance Supervisor at Nova Scotia Forest Industries (Port Hawkesbury Paper). He retired in 1994. He was an avid golfer, card shark, Washington Capitals fan, lover of Scottish fiddle music, and he was known to play a few tunes himself. In 2009 he suffered a massive stroke which left him incapacitated, but he never once complained or gave up on living his life to the fullest. Visitation will be held in Port Hood and Area Resting Place on Tuesday February 11th, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral mass will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday February 12 in St. Peter's Church, Port Hood with fr. Duncan MacIsaac officiating. Burial at a later date. He leaned greatly on his faith in God to help him carry his crosses that were given to him. He will be deeply missed and always remembered for his wit and humor. We will love you always. Rest in the warmth and peace of God's eternal light. Donations can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation in his memory. On-line condolences may be made to www.invernessfuneralhome.com submitted by Urban MacDonald
