Andy passed away from natural causes at his home in Cache Creek, BC on January 14th, 2014. He was 89 years old. Andy was born June 15th, 1924 in Broad Cove Banks near Inverness on Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia. His parents were Mary Margaret MacGillivray nee MacQuarrie and John MacGillivray. Andy was the third oldest of thirteen siblings: Alex (Mac), John, Francis (Gill), Rita, Kay, Ann, Winnie, Ernie, Angus and three siblings who died in infancy. Andy left Cape Breton and went out west to British Columbia in the early ‘50s where he worked as a miner and rigger. Andy married the love of his life, Neeltje Klazina van der Willik, on May 27th, 1957. His son, John Norman, was born June of 1958, and his daughter, Margaret Ann, was born November of 1959. He had two granddaughters, Amelia Neeltje and Sarah Marie. He is survived by his son, John MacGillivray, daughter Maggie Hillyard (Don), granddaughters Amelia Smart (Gareth) and Sarah Hillyard (fiancé Chris Treece), brother Angus MacGillivray (Linda) and sisters Kay Weatherby and Ann Thompson. He will be sadly missed by all of his nieces and nephews and grandnieces and grandnephews and friends. Andy was predeceased by his wife of 55 years, Neeltje Klazina (Nellie), February 7th, 2013. Andy had a great love of his family and his home. He could be quick to anger, but was the first to offer his help when needed. He was a proud, entertaining man. A graveside service was held in Ashcroft, BC on January 20th, 2014. Tap ‘er light, Dad. We will miss you. xox
