Born on May 25, 1959, Marie was the daughter of Lloyd and the late Sarah (Taylor) Morrison of Blacketts Lake, N.S. A graduate of Riverview Rural High she began her workingcareer in retail at Crowell’s Ltd., later attending Cape BretonBusiness College earning a diploma as a medical secretary then working for several local doctors. Marie was very artistic and her friends and family were gratefulrecipients of her many creations. Family was very important to Marie, she never forgot a birthday and always enjoyed family gatherings, trips with her sisters and friends and spending time in Boularderie Island. Marie is survived by her loving husband Francis and her son Courtland, she also leaves behind her father Lloyd, her four brothers Willy (Connie), Stephen (Jennifer), James, Darryl (Heidi) and her two sisters Janice (Eric Campbell) and Nadine (Kari Easthouse). She was predeceased by her mother Sarah in 2012. A private burial service will be held at a later date. Memorial donations can be made to the Cape Breton Regional Hospital Foundation Cancer Center. Robert MacKeigan Born In: Sydney Born: June 14th, 1941 Passed on: February 6th, 2014 Robert 'Bob' McKeagan passed away peacefully at his residence on Thursday, Feb. 6, 2014 with his great love, Fran, by his side. He was 72. Born June 14, 1941 in Sydney, Cape Breton, he was the oldest son of Helen (Waterman) McKeagan and the late Lauchlin McKeagan. Bob will dearly be missed by his loving wife of 47 years, Fran (Loder); daughter Tania (Jeff) Johnston of Kanata, Ont.; son Scott (Elaine) of Oshawa, ON; grandchildren, Kyra, Keagan, Noah and Liam; sister Sharron Rigby of Sackville, N.S.; brother Richard (Trish) of Rockland, Ont.; sisters-in-law Elaine (Abner) Cooper, Beverly (Gordon) Mullin and brothers-in-law Derek (Phyllis) Loder and Alan (Willie) Loder as well as many nieces and nephews. The family will be receiving friends and relatives at Cobb’s Funeral Home and Cremation Centre, 330 Whitepine Rd., Riverview (869-2007) on Monday from 6-8 p.m. The funeral service will be held from St. Paul’s United Church, 404 Cleveland Ave., Riverview, on Tuesday, Feb. 11, 2014 at 2 p.m. with Rev. Steve Berube and Rev. Andy O’Neill officiating. The interment will take place in Alderwood Cemetery at a later date. Online condolences may be expressed at www.cobbsfuneralhome.ca Rose Helen MacDougall Born In: Port Morien Born: September 17th, 1920 Passed in: Sydney Passed on: February 7th, 2014 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Rose MacDougall on Feb. 7, 2014, at the Cove Guest Home, Sydney. Born in Port Morien on Sept. 17, 1920, Rose was the daughter of the late William and Sarah MacPhee. Rose was a resident of the Cove Guest Home for the past 10 years and was formerly from Welton Street. She was a member of St. Theresa’s Church, Sydney. She was a stay-at-home mom, who looked after her seven children and her husband who was disabled for 20 years. She loved to cook, bake, sew, knit, crochet, quilt and many other crafts. She enjoyed bingo and a good game of cards. She also liked to travel, mostly to Ontario to be with her family as well as other parts of Canada. Rose is survived by her daughters, Helen (Ross) Morrison, Hughena (John) Quinn, Theresa (Jim) Burton, Michelene (Joe) MacKinnon, all of Sydney; sons, Joe (Alice), Ontario, Hugh ‘Skippy’ (Marie), Ontario, and Gordon (Cathy), Marion Bridge; brothers, William (Jenny) MacPhee and Byron (Hazel) MacPhee, both of Sydney; in-laws, Christene MacPhee, Ada MacPhee and Clifford Morrison; 16 grandchildren, Kathy, Paul, Kenneth, David, Colleen, Danette, Stephen, Bobby, Skippy, Dawn, Tammy, Michael, Daniel, Carolyn, Rachael, Kimberley, and 23 great-grandchildren. Besides her parents, Rose was predeceased by her husband, Hugh and infant daughter, Patricia, great-granddaughter, Audrey Purcell and also by her sisters, Evelyn Steele, Mary Ursula Morrison, Anita Wilson, Audrey in infancy and her brothers, George, Ephie, Kenny, Bobby, Reggie, Stephen and Alex. Visitation will be held 2-4 and 7-9 p.m., Tuesday, Feb. 11 and funeral service will be held 12 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 12 both at T.W. Curry Parkview Chapel, Rev. Tommy Whent will officiate. Thomas Gordon Butts Born In: Florence Born: September 30th, 1932 Passed in: Florence Passed on: February 8th, 2014 It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Thomas Gordon Butts, at the Northside General Hospital on Saturday, Feb. 8, 2014. Born in Florence on Sept. 30, 1932, Tom was the youngest child of Jack and Mae (Nugent) Butts. Tom was a former member of St. Stephen’s parish Florence. Tom worked in No. 1 and No. 3 Collieries, sailed the Great Lakes and then retired in 1991 after working 23 years for the Canadian Coast Guard. He loved the outdoors, hunting, fishing and walking with Blue. All of the neighbourhood kids would gather when he was in the yard so they could help him with any tasks. He is survived by his daughter, Peggy; sons, Gary (Marley), Richard (Virginnia); grandsons, Jason (Angie), Shawn (Samantha) N.B., and Gary; granddaughter, Mallory (George) Jurcich, Burlington, Ont. He is also survived by sister, Loretta MacRae, Brampton, Ont.; great-grandchildren, Logan, DeKeisha and Jaxon Butts, along with numerous nieces and nephews. Tom will also be missed by his good buddy Kyle Howell, who he loved to share stories with. Clifton Farnsworth Born: February 20th, 1925 Passed in: Sydney Mines Passed on: February 8th, 2014 Beloved husband, father, grandfather and teacher died Feb. 8, 2014, after a brief illness, at the Northside General Hospital surrounded by his loving family. Born in Sydney Mines, he was the son of the late Mary (Kay) Farnsworth. Clifton is survived by his wife, Yvonne (Cullen), daughter, Elizabeth (Stephen) Sutherland and three grandchildren, Mary, Peter, and Bridget. Besided his mother he was predeceased by a son, Peter. There will be no visitation, and a private burial will take place at a later date under the care and direction of J.M. Jobes Funeral Home, Sydney Mines. Frederick Joseph O'Regan Born In: Grand Falls, New Brunswick, Canada Born: October 4th, 1946 Passed in: Glace Bay, Canada Passed on: February 5th, 2014 It is with great sadness that we the family announce the passing of Frederick ‘Fred’ O’Regan on Wednesday, Feb. 5, 2014, at the Cape Breton Regional hospital with family at his side. Fred was 67 and born in Grand Falls, N.B. He was the son of the late Lawrence and Loretta (Tait) O’Regan. Fred was a cook and retired from the Main Event in Glace Bay and the Road House in P.E.I. Fred played crib for many years at Branch 3 RCL, and also enjoyed playing pool and playing darts at the Tower Road fire hall. Surviving are his common-law wife, Phyllis Boutilier; the mother of his children, Brenda O’Regan; and his children, Tanya (Lindsay Taylor) O’Regan, P.E.I.; stepdaughter, Sara Butts, Ontario; sons, Jimmy (Margaret) O'Regan, P.E.I.; stepsons, Chickie (Shirley), Richie (Tanya), Billy (Carrie), Piper (Janey), Scottie (Melissa), all of Glace Bay; sisters, Sharon, Grand Falls, N.B., Mary, Riverview, N.B., Colleen, Grand Falls, N.B.; brothers, John, Moncton, N.B., Michael, Grand Falls, N.B., Brian, Grand Falls, N.B., Richard, Kentville, N.S. Also surviving are 12 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Fred was predeceased by parents and a brother, Larry. Cremation has take place. Funeral service will be held Tuesday , Feb. 11 at 11 a.m. in Patten Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Allan MacLellan officiating. Burial will be at a later date. Michael Ronald 'Ronnie' MacKinnon Passed in: Glace Bay Passed on: February 6th, 2014 It is with deep sadness and a profound sense of loss that we announce the passing of our beloved brother and uncle to three generations, Michael Ronald (Ronnie) McKinnon, on Thursday, Feb. 6, 2014, in Palliative Care, Cape Breton Regional Hospital, after a brief illness. Ronnie was predeceased by his parents, Coady and Jane (Harte) McKinnon, brother, Coady, sister Claire, a brother in infancy, and brother-in-law, Walter (Sonny) Chiasson. Prior to retirement, Ronnie was employed by Modern Aluminium, Sydney. He was a member of, and very active in, Holy Family parish and then St. Joseph's parish. Serving on the parish council and other ministries. Ronnie is survived by brothers, Adrian (Mabel), Jerry (Donna), Arnold (Debbie), Bernie (Lisa), all of Glace Bay, and Frank (Lorna), Oshawa, ON; sisters, Marie Turner, Carmie Chiasson, Joyce McInnis, Cathy (Jamie) Gilliam, Helen Kelloway, all of Glace Bay, and Anne (John) Vernon, Winnipeg, Man.; sister-in-law, Peggy, Kitchener, Ont.; nieces and nephews. Visitation for Ronnie was held from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m., Sunday, Feb. 9 at Curry's Funeral Home, 775 Main St., Glace Bay. Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 11 a.m. today (Monday, Feb. 10), at St. Joseph's Church, Reserve Mines. Memorials may be made to Palliative Care.
