Bob was born on March 28, 1931 in Worcester, Massachusetts to Anna Urquhart Martin and Walter Willis Martin, both deceased. He is also preceded in death by his step father Donald (Buddy) MacKenzie and daughter Cheryl Martin. He was raised in Grand River, Cape Breton, Canada and Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada where he received his higher education as a Tool & Die Maker. He is survived by his family, Rebecca Martin Jamroz and husband Mark of Benton, Kathryn Martin and Barbara McQuiller of Shreveport, and Gregory Martin of Boise, Idaho. Grandchildren Alicia Jamroz Andre' and husband Drew of Bossier City, Amanda Jamroz of Benton, Caitlin Martin and Logan Martin of Boise, Idaho. Bob is survived by one aunt, Isabel MacCuish and many cousins, all of Nova Scotia, Canada. A special first cousin, Sandra Noah of Salmon River, Nova Scotia, was his weekly telephone buddy for many years and he considered her his baby sister. In Canada, Bob was a member of the Quiz Kids and played on a Minor League hockey team. As a youth he was a member of the Royal Canadian Air Cadet Squadron. He was the proud grandson of a North American Cycling Champion, Alexander Roderick Urquhart, who made cycling history on the New England track. Bob enlisted in 1951 in the U.S. Army and was trained in the 10th Mountain Division and became a Paratrooper with the 187th Division Airborne Regimental Combat Team of the 82nd Airborne Rakkasans. He was stationed in Kyushu Japan and Honorably Discharged in 1954 after serving in the Korean War. Bob enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in 1955 as an Airman 1st Class where he spent time in Laos and Japan and Honorably Discharged in 1959. He was on the Championship Softball team for Yokota AFB. As a Tool and Die Maker he owned several businesses, General Machine Works, and P&M Machine, creating custom machined pieces for local an d national companies. He was elected as a Senior Member to the Society of Manufacturing Engineers. While in Houston, he produced the tiles for NASA Spaceships. Upon retiring from metal fabrication, he began Martin's Underwater Service whereby the State of Louisiana awarded the Lake Bistineau contract for installation of its channel markers. Enjoying outdoor activities, Bob's greatest love was deer hunting and he treasured the many years of friendship with his hunting buddies; a special thank you is extended to Jeff Oberley for being Bob's best friend for many of his final years.A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, February 22, 2014 at Sacred Heart Church, 4736 Lyba Street. Reverend Pike Thomas will officiate. Honorary pallbearers are Mark Jamroz, Drew Andre', and life-long friends Jeff Oberley and John Briery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Vincent DePaul or St. Jude Church Capital Campaign, 4700 Palmetto Road, Benton, LA 71006.
