Francis Milley - 80 yrs Marion Isabel (Morrison) Fraser - Catherine Niemczyk Born In: Glace Bay Passed in: Glace Bay Passed on: February 14th, 2014 Catherine Jane Niemczyk of Nolan’s Lane, Glace Bay, passed away on Friday, February 14th, 2014 at the Glace Bay Hospital. Born in Glace Bay, she was the daughter of the late Emanual and Annie (MacNeil) Forward. Catherine graduated from St. Anne’s High School, Glace Bay and later graduated from St. Joseph’s School of Nursing, Glace Bay, N.S. in 1952 as an R.N. She belonged to the Carmelites of St. Anne’s Parish, Glace Bay. She was a great lover of animals, especially her canine friend, ‘Checo’. Catherine also loved old country songs, and long dangly earrings. Catherine is survived by two daughters, Elizabeth Ann Forward, Manitoba, Eileen (Mark) Domko, Winnipeg, one son, Paul Niemczyk, Winnipeg, several grandchildren and great grandchildren as well as nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by several brothers and sisters. Special thanks to all the staff at Cape Breton Regional Hospital, home care staff, VON nurses and to her closest friends. Visitation will be held on Friday, February 21, 2014 from 1 p.m. until the time of the funeral service at 2 p.m. , both in the V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay. Fr. Pat Steele Born In: Whitney Pier Passed in: Sydney Passed on: February 18th, 2014 Alice Patricia Steele, age 78 of 54 Patnic Avenue, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February 18, 2014 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, surrounded by her loving family. Born in Whitney Pier, she was the daughter of the late Duncan and Mabel (Stagg) Donovan. She was a member of Immaculate Heart parish, Mira Road and former member of Holy Redeemer where she was quite active in her earlier days. Over her lifetime, Pat was always generous of her time and energy for her family, neighbors and friends. Her primary concern was her children and their well-being. Mom’s warmth and sense of humour gave her the ability to bring out the best in people even during the toughest of times. She was also gifted as a poet and storyteller. Pat is survived by daughters Kelly (Brian) Manship, Moncton, NB; Lynn (Chris) MacCuish, Ft. McMurray, AB; sons John (Laurie), Enfield; Allan (Annette), Liverpool; Paul (Donna), Sydney and will be dearly missed by her grandchildren, John & Allison Manship, Jacqueline & Claire Steele, Callum, Gareth & Brynn Steele, Tyler Steele, Jake MacCuish and by two brothers Robert (Barbara) Donovan, Sydney; Gregory (Jean) Donovan, Calgary, AB; a sister Mrs. Theresa Hawco, Sydney; sister-in-law Cheryl Donovan and by several nieces and nephews. Gerald Devoe Born In: Bras d'Or Passed in: Southside Boularderie Passed on: February 17th, 2014 We announce with deep sorrow the passing of Gerald Gregory Devoe on Monday February 17, 2014 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital surrounded by his loving family. Born in Bras d’Or, he was the son of the late Harold and Charlotte (Jellotta) Devoe. He was a member of St. Joseph Parish, Bras d'Or. Gerald is survived by his loving wife Lillian; son Wesley (Darlene); daughters; Shirley (Edward) Scott, and Heather (Stan Bonise); daughter-in-law Vivian. Brothers; Harold, Franklyn, Ambrose, Melvin, and Tremaine. Sisters; Hilda (Hopton), and Phyllis (Dupis). Gerald is also survived by seven grandchildren, seventeen great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren. Besides his parents Gerald was predeceased by his son Garland; brother, Joey; sister, Erma Buffett and son-in-law, Gordon MacDonald. In keeping with his wishes cremation has taken place under the care and direction of JM Jobes Funeral Home, Sydney Mines. A celebration of Gerald’s life will take place on Saturday February 22, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Joseph Church, Bras d’Or with Fr. Jake Andrea Officiating. Francis Milley, age 80, of Glace Bay formerly of Donkin passed away on Sunday, Feb. 16, 2014 in the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney. Born in Glace Bay, he was the son of the late William and Emily (Snow) Milley. Francis was a member of St Mary’s Anglican Church Glace Bay, an employee of Devco for many years, then moved on to work in the Iron Mines in Atikokan, Ont. Francis moved back to Cape Breton were he settled with his family. Francis will be sadly missed by many family and friends. He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Evelyn (Eagles); son, Terry (June) of Saint John, N.B.; daughter-in-law, Barbara of Saskatchewan; sister, Abigail Aucoin; brothers, David, Ken, Albert and Hube; five grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Besides his parents Francis was predeceased by his son, Brian and many brothers and sisters. There will be visitation for Francis in the Patton Funeral Home, 71 Union St., Glace Bay on Thursday, Feb. 20, 2014 from 6-8 p.m. A memorial service will be held on Friday, Feb. 21, 2014 at 11 a.m. in St Mary’s Anglican Church, Glace Bay. Marion Isabel (Morrison) Fraser Born In: Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada Passed in: Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada Passed on: February 16th, 2014 Isabel Fraser passed away at the Veterans Memorial Hospital, Halifax, on Feb. 16, 2014. Born in Halifax, N.S. just prior to the Halifax Explosion. She was a long time resident of Sydney Mines and Middle River, N.S., and Ottawa, Ont., before returning to N.S. in 2009. Surviving are her three sons, Gordon, in Vancouver, Stuart (Catharina) in Edmonton, Alta. and Ian (Cheryl) in New Glasgow, N.S., and her five grandchildren, Marion Mohagen in Edmonton Alta., Rachel (Rients) Siderius in LeDuc Alta., Kaylyn Fraser, in London, UK, Jamie Fraser, in Halifax, N.S., and Cameron Fraser in Halifax, N.S. and sister-in-law, Jean Morrison, in Amherst, N.S. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Dr. Kenneth Fraser, as well as twin sister, Margaret Hallett; sister, Jean Haliburton and brothers, Ian Morrison and Dr Ross Morrison. As a nursing sister with the Canadian Army, Isabel served in South Africa and London UK during the Second World War. She loved to travel, shop, cook and bake, and laugh. Family meant the world to her. We were all lucky to have her with us to almost her 98th birthday. Her family appreciates the excellent care she received by the staff members of Six West, Veterans’ Memorial Hospital, Halifax A memorial service and interment will take place in the spring in Middle River, Cape Breton.
