MacDonald at the age of 50. John lost his painful battle to COPD on Tuesday, Feb. 4, 2014, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital with his loving family at his side. Born in Glace Bay, he was the son of Phyllis and the late Eddie 'Comet' MacDonald and was a member of St. Mary’s Anglican Church, Glace Bay. Our John had also been suffering from schizophrenia for nearly three decades. Before John became ill, he led a wonderful life doing what he loved, playing guitar, writing songs and enjoying life. John’s illness did not interfere with his compassion and love for others and anyone who was fortunate to meet John loved him instantly. He treated everyone with respect and dignity, but unfortunately he didn’t receive the same from some, yet he never complained. John had a loving soul, the biggest heart and a beautiful mind. John Y. will be missed by many; especially by his beautiful mom, Phyllis MacDonald (Gerard Gouthro); sons, J.J.
