Harvey passed away on Feb. 20, 2014 at St. Vincent's Nursing home in Halifax, at the age of 83, after a battle with Parkinson’s disease. Harvey was married to Clare Gillis (nee) for 53 years. They brought up their four daughters in Sydney. Their oldest daughter Margaret Jean passed away in 2008 leaving a tremendous void in their family. Harvey was the son of Mary F. (MacDonald) and James R. MacEachern. He was the youngest of 12 and a proud member of the Whitney Pier community growing up. A graduate of Sydney Academy, Harvey went on to complete his bachelor of arts (1953) and bachelor of education (1955) degrees, After a brief career in teaching, Harvey worked with the Department of Social Services. He went on to get his masters of social work from Carleton University in 1963 continuing to work in social work. He was manager of Canada Pension in Sydney for over 20 years until his retirement. Harvey served on the Provincial Health Council and the Family Service and Talbot house boards. Harvey's passion was family. Along with his wife, Clare; he leaves behind his daughter, Shauna (Larry Babineau), their children, Maria and Nolan; Elizabeth (Neil Ferguson), their children, Jonathan and Hillary; Lora (Chris Daly), their children, Alexandra, Bridget and Daniel. He was predeceased by his daughter, Margaret Jean (Mike Curran), and survived by their children, Ryan, Sean and Colleen. Harvey was also close with many of his nieces and nephews especially Lauren Furdas, Linda Simmonds, Margaret Claire Scriven (predeceased), Brenda Wickstrom (predeceased), Michael MacEachern, Ronnie MacEachern and Mary Ellen MacEachern and many more nieces and nephews who always had a soft spot for "Uncle Harv." A person of tremendous integrity, Harvey treated all people he met with dignity and respect. A very friendly and people-oriented person, he showed a genuine interest in each and everyone he met. He will be remembered for his knowledge and his ability to discuss important topics of the day. He was also a regular at Coxheath Arena where he loved to skate. His family would also like to extend a deep thanks to and all of the wonderful staff at St. Vincent's Nursing Home in Halifax. Your compassion and caring will not be forgotten. Elmo 'EJ' Muise It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our son, brother and uncle, Elmo Joseph 'EJ' Muise on Feb. 20, 2014 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney, surrounded by his loving family. He was the son of Katie (MacMullin) and the late Elmo James Muise. Left to mourn are sisters, Mercedes (Doug), Hamilton, Ont., Peggy (Ken), Gardiner Mines, Andrea, New Waterford and brother, James (Monique), Kingston, Ont.; niece, Miranda and nephews, Christopher, Erik & Aaron; uncles, Joe (Peggy) Brescia, Thunder Bay, Ont., Frank (Frances) McMullin, Peterborough, Ont. and James Duggan, Antigonish. Cremation has taken place by Elmo’s request. A chapel service to celebrate Elmo’s life will take place March 19, 2014 at 1 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Deacon Leo Penny officiating with a luncheon at the Army, Navy & Air Force, Smith Street to follow. Ronalda Bowne Born In: Sydney Mines Born: January 20th, 1956 Passed on: February 20th, 2014 It is with broken hearts that we, the family, announce the sudden, peaceful passing of our wonderful, caring wife, mother, daughter, sister, aunt and friend, Ronalda Lynn Bowne, on Thursday, Feb. 20, 2014. Born in Sydney Mines on Jan. 20, 1956, she was the daughter of Lorraine (Higham) and the late Ronald Ramsdale. She was a member of Wilson United Church, Florence, and was always happy with her quilting buddies; the ‘Wilson Weavers’. She always called it her ‘therapy session’, and had so many great laughs. Ronalda was employed for many years in Harbour View Hospital in Sydney Mines, until illness forced her to retire. Ronalda was loved by all who knew her, and was a loyal friend to all. Her son Michael was her life, and she and Charles spent many days cheering him on in hockey and baseball. She and Charlie looked so forward to their yearly trip down south, and to relax in the sun. She was an avid Cape Breton Screaming Eagles fan, and she and Charlie always held season tickets. She was so excited when in hospital she was presented with an autographed jersey from the team. Ronalda possessed an immeasurable capacity for love, compassion, understanding, generosity and friendship. She had an individually unique relationship with all her family members and her friends. Her ability to connect with all who she met, and to make them feel valuable and loved was revered by many, including her entire family and those in her many circles of friends. Left to mourn her passing is her loving husband Charles, and her son, Michael, Edmonton; she also leaves behind her loving mother, Lorraine (Ramsdale) Nicholson; her sister, Trudy (Frank) Herritt; stepsisters, Lenore Pardy, Sally Popovich and step-brother, Nick Nicholson; brothe rs-in-law, Paul (Mary Louise), Jimmy (Carolyn) and Bernie (Vicki); sisters-in-law Bernette, Judy and Brenda; her Aunt Sylvia (Michael) MacMullin, Uncle Harry (Lorraine) Higham, and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Also missing her is her furbaby, Zoe. Ronalda held her niece, Tanya (Jason) Clarkson and her nephew Steven Herritt, as if they were her own children. Her great-niece, Michaela and great-nephews, Aubrey, Ashton and Ashley were always ‘Aunt Auda’s babies. She was predeceased by her father, Ronald Ramsdale; stepfather, Roddie Nicholson and sister, Jackie in 1954. Visitation for Ronalda Bowne will be held in J.M. Jobes Funeral Home, 635 Main St., Sydney Mines, on Sunday, Feb. 23, 2014, from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. A celebration of her life will take place on Monday, at 2 p.m. in Wilson United Church, Florence, with Dianne Kempt DLM and Rev. Nick Phillips officiating. Norman was born on Nov. 24, 1934 to the late William and Agnes Gerrow. He was the loving husband of Helen Gerrow. Norman was a treasured husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, who lived every moment of his life to the fullest. He will be sadly missed by his family and many friends. He is survived by children, Richard (Diane), Brenda, Betty (Melvin) MacLean, David (Jackie), Janet (Danny) Herridge and Russell (Paula). He will be greatly missed by his grandchildren, Jason, Amanda, Tracey, Crystal, Vicki, Christina, Ryan, Mark, Melissa, Matthew, Danny, Jenestia, Belinda, Dillon and David; as well as his 17 great-grandchildren. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family and was predeceased by his brothers, Russell, Richard, Tommy, Johnny, Freddie and his sisters, Gertrude, Mabel and Catherine. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, in particular, those in the ICU and IMCU, who provided such wonderful care and support over the past few months. Kenneth MacLeod Born In: New Waterford Passed in: Dartmouth Passed on: February 20th, 2014 Kenneth Donald MacLeod, 63 of Dartmouth passed away Feb. 20, 2014 at the Dartmouth General Hospital. Born in New Waterford, he was the son of the late Donald MacLeod and Margaret (Morrison) MacLeod. He retired from the National Research Council, was former president and active member of the Royal Antediluvian Order of Buffaloe, and a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Somme Branch #31. He is survived by Mary MacNeil; his sons, Iain MacLeod and Stephan MacLeod; daughter, Maggie (MacLeod) Perkins; brothers, Gordon MacLeod (Shaune) and Douglas MacLeod (Wilma); grandchildren, Rowan MacLeod and Kenna MacLeod; his many beloved nieces and nephews; his extended family, friends, and co-workers. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, Feb. 25, 2014 at 2 p.m. at the A.L. Frank Sabesberger Passed on: February 19th, 2014 Frank Sabesberger who passed away on Feb. 19, 2014 was predeceased by a sister-in-law, Hughena Campbell of Bridgewater on Feb. 15, 2014. Gregory Barrington Passed in: Bowmanville Passed on: February 13th, 2014 On Thursday, Feb. 13, 2014 at Lakeridge Health in Bowmanville, Greg Barrington of Burnt River passed in his 67th year. Beloved husband of Karin Barrington. Loving father of Christopher (Candice) of Phelpston, Ont., Sabine of Fenelon Falls, Ont., Michael of Burnt River, Ont., Lisa (Nicholas) of Peterborough, Ont. and George of Lindsay, Ont. Greg is also the foster-father of Chris and Evan. Dear grandfather of Kaitlyn, Liam and Braeden. Greg is survived by his father, Harry Barrington; brother Leonard (Gail); sister Marion Brenna (Phonse) of New Waterford, N.S., sisters, Joan Stevens (Tom) and Terry McKenzie of Dartmouth, N.S. and brother Harry Barrington (Pat) of Stevensville, Ont. Uncle Greg will be fondly remembered by many nieces and nephews. Greg will also be sadly missed by his mother-in-law, Effi Fleischhauer and sister and brother-in-law, Susanne and Gunter Meyer, all of Fenelon Falls. Greg has been an active member of the Kinmount Fair Board for many years, including the position of president. Greg has also served with the Lions Club for several years. Greg has played an influential role in the lives of many young people as a caring foster parent. Greg's unique abilities and style of training horses designed by him as Motivational Response Training earned him the respected title of a Horse Whisperer. His experience led him to develop equine therapy for troubled children. The family of Greg Barrington will receive friends at the JARDINE FUNERAL HOME, CREMATION & TRIBUTE CENTRE, 8 Princes' St. W., Fenelon Falls, on Friday March 7th from 7-9 p.m. and then on Saturday, March 8th at the Fenelon Falls Community Centre from 11 a.m until 12 p.m. A 'Celebration of Life Service' will take place at 12 p.m. at the Fenelon Falls Community Centre. Reception to follow. Interment later at Fenelon Falls Cemetery.
