Born in Ukraine, he lived in Whitney Pier from the age of seven. Bill was a veteran of the Canadian Armed Forces, a member of the Pier Legion 128, and worked for the Sydney Steel Plant for 44 years. Cremation has taken place. He was predeceased by his loving wife, Olga, of 67 years; granddaughter, Theresa. He is survived by daughters, Marie, Theresa, Sydney, sons, Billy Jr. (Helene), Ont., Larry (Sandra), Sydney; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Church service to be announced. Gary Graham Rideout Ingonish, N.S. After a long and debilitating illness, Gary passed peacefully in his sleep at Buchanan Memorial Hospital on May 1, 2014. Born in Oshawa, Ont., Nov. 17, 1952, Gary was the younger son of Dinah and the late Thomas Rideout of Ingonish. He is survived by his only brother, Gordon (Iris), Ingonish, niece, LoriAnne (Greg Ferens), Ingonish, nephew, Daniel (Beth), Oshawa, and aunts, uncles and cousins. Also fondly remembered by longtime friend, Lisa Russell, Toronto, and ex-wife and friend, Nicole Gabourie, Toronto.Gary graduated from Oshawa’s Durham College with a degree in chemistry which led him to a career in the food industry. A former employee of Canada Packers and a long-term research and product development manager of W.T. Lynch foods of Don Mills, Ont., Gary made many friends in the food industry. Retiring to Ingonish in 2005, Gary became involved in his community as a member of Branch 105 RCL, a dedicated member of the Cabot Trail Lions Club and an avid golfer and member of Highlands Links.He also relished a good game of bridge and cribbage. A founding member of the Skidmore Clan at Minden, Ont., Gary’s friends will remember him as kind and generous and with good humour. Cremation has taken place as per his wishes and those of his family. There will be no visitation. A brief memorial service will be announced at a later date. The family wishes to thank doctors Murray, Buffett and Jacobs, as well as the caring and capable staff at Buchanan Memorial, including palliative care and home care, who nursed Gary through two years of illness with tender and compassionate care. Donations in Gary’s memory may be made to North of Smokey Palliative Care or Ingonish United Church.
