Josie passed away peacefully on March 17, 2014, with her family by her side. Josie was the daughter of the late Stephen and Mary (Tobin) MacKenzie (Glace Bay). Josie was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother and sister who focused her time, love and energy on her family who will deeply miss her. In her younger years Josie was employed at Grand Electronics and later as a hair stylist. After raising her family, Josie returned to work at the Cape Breton Regional School board where she made many friendships and fond memories. Upon her retirement, Josie and Arnold became avid campers and enjoyed spending their summers at Englishtown Ridge Campground with great friends for 19 years. Josie had a very kind and generous heart and could always be counted on to bake, cook and decorate for showers, weddings, anniversaries, church and community events. Josie particularly enjoyed baking for residents in long term care facilities or for those ill at home. Josie's favourite time of year was Christmas and she took great pride preparing her home and table to receive family, friends and neighbours over Christmas. Josie was a life long member of Immaculate Conception Parish in Glace Bay and volunteered her time with the St. Vincent de Paul Society and the Kidney Foundation. Josie was predeceased by her husband of 48 years, Arnold, sisters, Marjorie McNeil, Betty Postlewaite, Annie Shaughnessy, Ella MacKenzie (infancy), May MacKenzie (infancy), brothers, Alex MacKenzie, Neil MacKenzie and Tommy MacKenzie (infancy). In honouring Josie's wishes, cremation has taken place and there will be no visitation. A celebration of Josie's life will be held on March 22, 2014, at 11 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Parish, Glace Bay, with Fr. Daniel Boudreau officiating. Interment will be at the Calvary Cemetery. A reception will follow in the parish hall. In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made to the Immaculate Conception Parish Roofing Fund.
