Carter, 94, formerly of Queen Street, North Sydney on Wednesday, March 5, 2014 at Harbourstone Enhanced Care, where she had been a resident for the past several months. The family would like to take this opportunity to thank the staff of Irish Cove, Harbourstone Enhanced Care for the care shown to Anne while she was a resident there. In keeping with Anne’s wishes, there will be no visitation or funeral service. Cremation has taken place and a private family committal will be held at a later date. Lorraine Brookman Born In: Whitney Pier Passed in: East Bay Passed on: March 5th, 2014 We regret to announce the death of Lorraine (Keough) Brookman, which occurred on Wednesday, March 5, 2014, at the MacGillivray Guest Home, Sydney. Born and raised in Whitney Pier, she resided the past 40 years in Northside East Bay. She was the daughter of the late Andrew and Mary Anne (MacRae) Keough. Lorraine was a member of Holy Redeemer Parish for most of her life and then of St. Mary’s Parish, East Bay. Lorraine worked for many years in the laundry service including Vale’s, White Circle and Snow White. Lorraine is survived by her son, John David, Ontario, and grandson, Jordan. She is also survived by sister, Mildred Hooper; brothers, Andrew ‘Buddy’ and David Keough; as well as a large number of nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, Lorraine was predeceased by her husband, Ernest, sisters, Helen Dwyer, Evelyn Murphy, Rita Costello, Tillie Campbell, Rosie Duff and Bernice Campbell and brother, Maurice Keough. Funeral mass will be celebrated on Monday, Mar. 10, 2014, at 11 a.m. in Holy Redeemer Church, Whitney Pier, with celebrant to be her nephew, Father Paul Murphy. Following the mass a reception will be held at the Pier Community Funeral Home. Interment will take place in Resurrection Cemetery, Sydney Forks. Donations in memory of Lorraine may be made to Holy Redeemer Building Fund. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the care and direction of Pier Community Funeral Home. Patrick McGuigan Born In: Sydney Mines Born: June 21st, 1934 Passed in: North Sydney Passed on: March 5th, 2014 It is with heavy hearts the family of Patrick Amos McGuigan announce his passing at the Northside General Hospital on Wednesday, March 5, 2014. Born in Sydney Mines on June 21, 1934, Patrick was the son of the late Arthur and Eugena Rose (Williams) McGuigan. A descendent of John ‘Jock’ and Margaret (Hughes) McGuigan who immigrated to Prince Edward Island from Monaghan, Ireland in 1835. Pat’s father Art moved to Cape Breton to obtain work in the coal mines. Pat himself worked in the Thompson, Greener, Princess and Prince Mines. During his retirement, his favourite place to be was Margaree with his wife Marie, along with in-laws Albert and Theresa Eveleigh. In his earlier years he enjoyed spending time with family in Ingonish, and with friends hunting and fishing. Pat is survived by his wife of 60 years, Marie (MacIntosh); one daughter Rose, Sydney Mines; and three sons, Patrick, Fort McMurray, Charles, Boularderie, and Kenneth, Sydney Mines. Also left to mourn are his nine grandchildren, Patricia Joan (PJ), Townley, Scott, Jenene, Jessica, David, Jordan, Patrick and Linden, and seven great-grandchildren. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by grandmother (Momma) Bridget (Donovan, Williams) Burket, Jack Collins (adopted Dad), and dear friends Charles Julian and Albert Eveleigh, who were like the brothers he never had. We wish to thank the doctors, nurses and staff at the Northside General Hospital who administered to him during this difficult time, and also his cousins Joe Williams, Joe Walsh and Rose MacAulay. There will be no visitation. A celebration of Pat’s life will take place on Saturday, March 8, 2014, at 10 a.m. in Holy Family Church, Sydney Mines, with Fr. Thomas John officiating. (Ret) We sadly announce the passing of Clyde Taylor of Newfoundland, formerly of Glace Bay on Feb. 25, 2014. Clyde is survived by his wife, Helen, four sons and five grandchildren in N.L., and by sister, Jean (Jack) Petite of Glace Bay. He was predeceased by his parents, Louis and Sara Taylor. Cremation has taken place in N.L. Burial at Forest Haven at a later date. Mary Dorothy Groom March 26, 1934 - March 5, 2014 - Glace Bat It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Mary Dorothy Groom of Glace Bay on March 5, 2014, at Cape Breton Regional Hospital. Born in New Waterford, she was the daughter of the late Denis and Aimee (Bourgeois) Burns. Mary enjoyed raising her four children and was an avid curler in her younger years. Dorothy will be remembered as a kind and sweet lady who loved spending time with her family. She was especially fond of her grandchildren and her dear friends. She will be sadly missed by her surviving children, daughter Ann Marie (Michael) Caume, Blue Springs, Missouri; son Peter Groom, Glace Bay, N.S., daughter-in-law Laura Groom, brother Michael Burns (Muriel), Dominion, N.S.; and her grandchildren, Carly, Ryan, Brennan, Evan, Cheryl, Janet and Patricia. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband Richard, son Tony, daughter Francine, sisters, Janie Peori, Theresa Odo and Yvonne Mullins, and brothers, William Burns, Joseph Burns and Henry Burns (Dit). Visitation for the late Mary Dorothy Groom will be held on Saturday, March 8, 2014, from 2-4 p.m. in Patten Funeral Home, 71 Union St., Glace Bay. Funeral services will be held on Sunday, March 9, 2014, in Patten Funeral Home Chapel at 2 p.m. with Rev. Donald MacDonald officiating, with interment in Forest Haven Memorial Gardens at a date to be determined. Donations can be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation.
