Born in Cheticamp, she was a daughter of the late Damien and Virgine (LeBlanc) Deveau. Mom lived for her family and was totally devoted to them. She had many good friends who will miss her. She loved to travel and also enjoyed playing cards. Mi-carême was a time of great fun at the homestead where music was played and friendships were made. Jeanette welcomed everyone in her home. She will be dearly missed. She is survived by sons Thomas Aucoin, Florida; Wallace Aucoin, Cheticamp; daughters Lucienne LeFort, Raymonde Doucet, both of Cheticamp; Paulette Pottie, Lower Sackville; sister Dina Belle Chiasson, Foyer Père Fiset; grandchildren Glenn Aucoin, Darlene LeLievre, Shelley Aucoin, Crystal Chiasson, Wade Pottie, Vanessa Pottie, Michelle Aucion; great-grandchildren Erica LeLievre, Connie LeLievre, Felicia Aucoin, Stephanie Aucoin, Dylan Aucoin. She was predeceased by her husband, Joseph T. Aucoin; brothers Willie, Josie, Wilfred; sisters Maggie Deveau, Catherine LeFort, Marie Helene Keating, Lizzie Mae Aucoin. The body rested at Cheticamp Funeral Home. Funeral mass was held on Monday, March 10th, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. in St. Peter’s Church, Cheticamp. Burial was in the parish cemetery. Condolences may be sent to: [email protected] BEATON With saddened hearts, the family of Finley Beaton announce the passing of their treasured dad, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. Finley passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family on Thursday, February 27th, 2014 at the age of 93. He will be remembered for his friendly and welcoming ways, his love of life and especially, family. Finley was born in Black River, Cape Breton Island and served his country overseas in WWII during the years of 1942-1946 with the Royal Canadian Electrical and Mechanical Engineers. Following the advice of his father, Archie, who assisted in building the 1913 Welland Canal, Finley and Colina married and raised their family in Welland, Ontario. Finley was fortunate to have enjoyed many happy retired years and spent many summers back home in Cape Breton. Finley is reunited with the love of his life, Colina (2012), and will be sadly missed by his children Tom and Pat Beaton, Shelley and Roman Grocholsky and Nancy and Chris Avolio. He was the proud grandfather of Nigel, Ainslie, Michael (Michelle), Jillian, Megan, Josh and Jere; dear brother of Mary and Monica (John Dan) of Mabou, and Stanley (Micheline) of New Brunswick; brother-in-law of Anne, Ann and Betty (Bob); predeceased by 9 siblings. The funeral mass was celebrated at St. Alexander’s Roman Catholic Church in Fonthill, ON on Monday, March 3rd, 2014. Donations in memory of Finley Beaton may be made to the Kidney Foundation. CHIASSON Leopold Joseph Chiasson, 72, St. Joseph du Moine, passed away February 28th, 2014 in Sacred Heart Community Health Centre, Cheticamp. Born in Cheticamp, he was a son of the late Peter and Eulalie (Desveau) Chiasson. Leopold spent 10 years working on drywall in Toronto, Ont. until he came home to St. Joseph du Moine in 1975 to pursue his dream of becoming owner and captain of his own fishing vessel for over 40 years. Leopold’s greatest pride were his children and grandchildren. He is survived by wife Lorraine Cormier; son Steven (Stella) Chiasson; daughter Denise (David) Deveau; brothers Daniel Chiasson, Cheticamp, and Alfred Chiasson, Lower Sackville; sisters Marie Cecile Larade, Cap le Moyne; Yvette Bourgeois and Emilda Roach, both of Cheticamp; grandchildren Jakob, Keigan, Ellen, Zachary; stepchildren Yvette (Gerard), Phillip (Winnie), Samuel (Amelia), Leonard (Claudia), Lucille (Alfred), Monique (Cyril), Camille (Lucille); stepgrandchildren Christian, Aaron, Natalie, Shauna, Byron, Jennifer, Joanne, Lindsey, Gabe, Camren; step-great-grandchildren Allison, Ava, Alexa, Giana, Jacob, Julien. Condolences may be sent to: [email protected] LeFORT Joseph Médéric LeFort, 85, of Cabot Trail, Cheticamp, died March 1st, 2014 in Sacred Heart Community Health Centre, Cheticamp. Born in Cheticamp, he was a son of the late Geoffrey and Flavie (Aucoin) LeFort. He graduated from the Nova Scotia Normal College, where he studied education. In 1952, he and Evelyn LeFort (Boudreau) married and had five children. He was a long-time resident of the Cheticamp region where he taught music amongst other subjects for his full professional career. Médéric had been a role model for many musicians, dancers, teachers and family members, always sticking up for his French heritage and culture. He represented the francophone federation with la F.A.N.E. He has been an officer of the Cadets in Greenwood, N.S. He went to Collège Sainte-Anne; Méderic directed the church and school choir. He is survived by his children, Marcel and Rosetta LeFort, Sydney; Adèle Poirier, Cheticamp; Dianne LeFort and Blair LeBlanc, Pointe-Claire, Que.; Laurette LeFort, Ottawa; Robert and Julie LeFort, Whitesboro, Tex.; grandchildren Adam LeFort, Kristian LeFort, Joanne Poirier, Stephanie Aucoin, Mitchell LeFort, Céline LeBlanc, Monique LeFort; great-grandchildren Jacob Poirier, Julien Poirier, Presley MacKinnon; brothers Albert LeFort, Ontario; Ludger and Pauline LeFort, Waltham, Mass.; Simon-Pierre and Julia LeFort, Margaree; Armand and Margarita, Ontario. He was predeceased by his wife, Evelyn Cecile (Boudreau) LeFort; brothers Louis Joseph LeFort, Alphonse LeFort. There was no visitation. Funeral mass was held on Thursday, March 6th, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. in l’Eglise Saint-Pierre de Cheticamp. Donations may be made to Le Conseil des Arts de Cheticamp or La Radio Communautaire CKJM.
