Born in Inverness on June 28th, 1958, she was a daughter of the late Finley and Mary Ann (MacKinnon) Campbell. Gloria was a member of Stella Maris Church, Inverness. She is survived by her brothers, Lorne (Karen), Halifax; Joe, Angus, Kevin, Inverness; John, B.C.; Paul, Basil, Calgary; sisters Marie (Ollie), Forsyth, New Waterford; Geraldine (John) MacLellan, Margaree; Claire (late Allen), Inverness. She is also survived by her nieces, Sarah and Jolene, nephews Aaron and Garrett. She was predeceased by her brother Gerard; sister in-law Liz and nephew Jason Campbell. Gloria will be sadly missed by all her family and friends and all who came to know her. Cremation has taken place. There will be no visitation. A funeral mass will take place in Stella Maris Church, Inverness, with burial in the parish cemetery at a later date. PALMATEER It is with deepest regret we, the family, announce the passing of Kenneth Marshall “Ken” Palmateer. He passed away at Baddeck Memorial Hospital Sunday, March 16th, 2013 with his loving wife Thelma at his side. Ken was born in Toronto, Ontario on July 16th,1936 to the late Marshall and Mabel Palmateer. He is survived by his loving wife Thelma; sons Rick (Melissa), Steve (Debbie) and Scott (Lisa); 5 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. Besides his parents he was pre-deceased by a grandson, Tyler. Ken's second love, after his family, was “The Margaree Valley” where he and Thelma lived for the past 15 years. At Ken's request there will be no visitation or service; burial will be at a later date in Ontario. Donations in memory of Ken may be made to Wilson United Church, Margaree Centre. Online condolences may be sent to [email protected] LeBLANC Hubert Austin LeBlanc, 97, of Foyer Pre Fiset, Cheticamp, formerly of Margaree, passed away on March 20th, 2014 at Sacred Heart Community Health Centre, Cheticamp. Born in Margaree, he was the son of the late Simon and Mary (LeBlanc) LeBlanc. Hubert joined the armed forces in 1943 and served until his discharge in 1946. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #32, Cheticamp. He worked as a coal miner for over 40 years in Northern Ontario, Quebec, New Waterford and for many years at Evans Coal Mine in St. Rose, Inverness County.Hubert was known as a hard worker. He overcame many health issues throughout his lifetime, but remained physically strong and independent till his 97th year. A devoted husband, father and grandfather, he was known for his sense of humour and sense of style. He loved to spend time fishing on the Margaree River, enjoying a good meal, sitting in the sun admiring the view and welcoming people to his home. He is survived by son Hubert Jr. (Pauline), Milton, Ont.; daughter Sylvia (Kenneth) Crowdis, Sydney River; grandchildren Steven LeBlanc, Milton, Ont., Robert LeBlanc (Katherine), Toronto, Ont. and Suzanne Crowdis (Paul Knight), Ottawa, Ont. He was predeceased by his wife of 69 years, Margaret (Muise) in August, 2013; brother Simon Joseph; and sisters Lucy, Emma, Alice, Mary Ellen and Phyllis. The body was cremated. Funeral mass was held on Saturday, March 22nd, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. in St. Michael’s Church, East Margaree, burial in the parish cemetery. Donations may be made to Foyer Pre Fiset. Condolences may be sent to: [email protected] BOURGEOIS Marie Louise Bourgeois, 86, Cheticamp, passed away March 12th, 2014, in Foyer Père Fiset. Born in Glace Bay, she was a daughter of the late John and Bertha (Deveaux) Deveaux. Marie Louise hooked rugs (Acadian tradition) for many years. She enjoyed music and played host to many family get-togethers. She lived a simple life and was content with this. She is survived by daughter Evelyn (Stephen) Doyle, Point Cross; grandchildren Stephanie Doyle and Brandon Doyle. She was predeceased by her first husband, Henri LeBlanc; second husband Johnnie Bourgeois; infant son Joseph Arthur LeBlanc; infant daughters Marie Elizabeth LeBlanc and Lucie May Bourgeois. The body was cremated. Funeral mass was held on Friday, March 21st, 2014 at 2:30 p.m. at Foyer Père Fiset, Cheticamp, burial in the parish cemetery. Donations may be made to Foyer Père Fiset. Funeral arrangements were under the direction of Cheticamp Funeral Services Ltd. Condolences may be sent to: [email protected] GILLIS Angus Alexander Gillis, October 15th, 1946-March 14th, 2014. It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Angus. He was the loving husband of 41 years to Barbara. He was a devoted father to Bruce, Donna (Shane MacDougall), and Mary Jaye; cherished Papa of Maxwell and Mary Kennedy. He was a son of the late D.A. and Sadie (MacNeil) Gillis; dear brother to Alexander (Lawley) of Halifax; Florence and Joe Van Den Hoogen of Mabou; Donna and Louis Cyr of Halifax. Angus will be remembered by many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, brothers and sisters-in-law, and close friends. Angus was an employee of Gates Corporation. Although Angus spent the majority of his life in Windsor, Ontario, his heart remained close to his hometown of Inverness, Cape Breton. He was a member of the Cape Breton Club of Windsor and the Knights of Columbus, South Windsor Council #4386. Visitation was held Monday and Tuesday. Funeral was held today, Wednesday, March 19th at 11:15 a.m. from Families First, 3260 Dougall Avenue, Windsor, Ontario (519-969-5841), to Corpus Christi Church, 1400 Cabana Rd. MacPHEE Mary “Marie” MacPhee, 91, of Inverness formerly of Port Hood passed away in Inverary Manor with family by her side on Sunday, March 16th, 2014. Born on February 28th, 1923 in Rocky Ridge, Port Hood, she was the daughter of the late Angus Peter and Mary Burke Rankin. Marie was a member of St. Peter’s Church, Port Hood, and was a member of the CWL, Port Hood. Her love was the family farm in Colindale surrounded by her most important part of her life, “family.” Marie is survived by children Don, Maura, Helen (Andy Frosst), Mary (Robbie Sutherland), Angus, and Gerard; sisters Christy and Catherine Annie. She is predeceased by her daughter Rose (1982), husband John (1982), sisters Catherine, Margaret, Elizabeth, Bridget, and sister in infancy, brother Alexander, many nieces and nephews. Marie will be sadly missed by all but never forgotten. Visitation will be held in Port Hood and Area Resting Place on Wednesday, March 19th, 2:00-4:00 and 7:00-9:00 p.m. Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, March 20th at 2:00 p.m. in St. Peter’s Church, Port Hood, with Fr. Vincent vanZutphen officiating. Burial in the parish cemetery at a later date.
