Born in Hamilton, Ontario, he was the son of Mrs. Noreen (Bourgeois) and the late Robert Smith. He was a talented carpenter as well as jack of all trades. Bill found peace living in Cape Breton. He was a loving and caring father and grandfather who will be sadly missed. Bill is survived by his children, Blair-Dawn Campbell, Thomas Smith (Ashley), and Tyler MacNeil, all of Sydney, Billy and Ashley Smith, Hamilton, Ont.; his grandchildren, Bentley, Zander and Landon as well as his three brothers, Bobby, Bradley and Bruce. Besides his father, Robert 'Bob' was predeceased by his brother, Brent. Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held Monday, March 3 from 6-8 p.m. and Tuesday March 4 from 1-3 p.m. at the SW Chant & Son Funeral Home, 564 Alexandra St., Sydney. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of… Ronald Collins Passed in: Victoria Mines Passed on: February 28th, 2014 The family of Ronald Gerard Collins regrets to announce his passing on Friday, February 28, 2014, at Cape Breton Regional Hospital, surrounded by his loving family. Born in Sydney, Ronald is the son of Leo and Louise (Kennedy) Collins. Ron was a loving family man who enjoyed spending time with his wife, Theresa and their dog, Darby. An avid outdoorsman, Ron was a talented wood worker, well known in Sydney and area for his storage sheds and custom furniture. A regular walk to the lake for an hour with anyone who would join him was vacation time for Ron. Ron will be missed by all who knew him. Besides his parents, Ronald is survived by his wife, Theresa (Odo); sisters, Marie (John) Savoy and Rosalie (Mark) Worth, Boylston; brothers, Leo (Darlene Crouse), Robert (Glennis), Halifax, and Steve (Nancy); as well as many nieces and nephews. Ronald is predeceased by a sister, Catherine Anne. Many thanks to the Palliative care team at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital as well as all the compassionate care workers at the Harbourstone Enhanced Care Facility, VON and home care workers. Following the mass a reception will be held at the Pier Community Funeral Home. Interment will take place in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, New Victoria at a later date. Pauline MacKenzie Born In: McAdam, New Brunswick, Canada Passed in: Sydney/Baddeck It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of a dear mother, grandmother and sister, Pauline Elizabeth MacKenzie, of Sydney and Baddeck. Born in McAdam, New Brunswick, in 1923, Pauline was the daughter of Alexander 'Sandy' and Emma Rosborough. Following the completion of teacher training in Home Economics, Pauline taught on Grand Manan Island, where she met her future husband, Dr. Douglas H. MacKenzie. With the completion of Doug’s medical studies at the Lahey Clinic in Boston, they returned to Cape Breton and resided in Sydney. Pauline raised her five children and enjoyed gardening and antique collecting. For the last number of years, Pauline and Doug spent the winters in Florida and their summers in Baddeck. Pauline is survived by her children, Stephen, Bill, Ann, Bruce and Joan; her grandchildren, Julia and Zosia; and her brother, Colin Rosborough. She was predeceased by her husband, Dr. Douglas H. MacKenzie in 2012. There will be no visitation. A memorial service will be held in the summer of 2014. Born in Glace Bay she was the daughter of the late Samuel and Ethel May (Barrett) Sealy. Isabel was an employee of the Glace Bay General Hospital for 25 years; she also was a member of St Mary’s Anglican Church, LOBA (Orange Lodge) Glace Bay. Her true passion was knitting and crocheting for her grandchildren and many friends, she also loved her long drives with Judy and Billy and waited very passionately for very special visits from her two sons, Kenneth and Morgan. Isabel will be sadly missed by her family and many friends. She is survived by daughter Judy (Billy) Pilling; sons Kenneth and Morgan (Mitch); sisters Marcella (Duncan) and Helen (Bill); 10 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren and eight great great grandchildren. Besides her parents she was predeceased by her husband of 52 years Tom; brothers in infancy, David and Richard; step brother Gordon Sealy; sisters Edith, Sally, Maggie and Phyllis. Stanley MacNeil Born In: Big Pond Born: July 25th, 1946 Passed in: Calgary, Canada Passed on: February 21st, 2014 It is with heavy hearts that we announce the unexpected passing of Stanley Francis MacNeil on Feb. 21, 2014 in Calgary, Alberta. Stanley was born in Big Pond on July 25, 1946. He was predeceased by his mother Mary Christina MacNeil and special grandparents Elizabeth and Alex R. MacNeil, “Stan” will be sadly missed by his wife Gwen, his stepchildren Darren and Shawna and grandchildren Jordan and Bailey. Also left to mourn are aunts and uncles, half-brother and sisters and many first cousins. Stanley’s love for his family and Cape Breton will never be forgotten. For many years Stanley co-owned a successful business, “Karaoki World,” which he enjoyed. After retiring in 2007, he and his wife Gwen loved to travel and Vegas was a favourite destination.
