Born in Sydney, she was the daughter of the late Albert and Hettie (Rowe) Nordine. Living all of her adult life in Cape Breton, Frances was a lifetime member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 128 in Whitney Pier. She enjoyed playing darts, working with the ladies auxiliary at the legion, spending time with relatives, and travelling. Frances was predeceased by her husband of 54 years, Patrick 'Pat' Farrell as well as her brothers, Wallace and Rudolph (Rudy) and her sister, Joyce (MacQuin). She is survived by her children, Joyce, Patrick (Paula), Janet and Sue Anne and grandchildren, Matthew, Hollie (Chris), Jennifer, Jillian, Benjamin (Cheryl), Krista-Lee, Brianna and Deborah. Visitation will be held today from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at S.W. Chant & Son Funeral Home located at 564 Alexander St. Sydney. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, March 14 at the funeral home chapel with Rev. Sheldon Chant officiating. Interment will occur at a later date. Michael 'Boris' MacNeil Born In: Glace Bay Passed in: Glace Bay Passed on: March 12th, 2014 It is with saddened hearts that we announce the passing of Michael Edward MacNeil. Michael peacefully passed away early Wednesday morning, March 12, 2014 at the Glace Bay Hospital with his brother Kevin at his side. Born in Glace Bay he was the son of the late Peter and Elva (Chant) MacNeil and was a former member of St. Anthony’s Church, Glace Bay. A 1975 graduate of the Atlantic Police Academy, he spent his entire career in security, working with the K-Mart until its closure and then with Canadian Tire, both in Sydney. Michael enjoyed sports and was a big Bruins and Red Sox fan. He was a very outgoing person and truly enjoyed being with a crowd; that’s probably why he knew so many people. Michael will be missed by many; especially by his brother Kevin; brother-in-law Gary Pace; nephew Steven Pace; aunts Annie T. MacNeil and Rita MacNamara; numerous cousins and friends. Besides his parents, he was also predeceased by sisters Bernice and Janet, both in infancy and sister Marlene Pace. Reynelda MacNeil Born In: Sydney Born: December 14th, 1937 Passed in: Sydney Passed on: March 11th, 2014 It is with deep sadness the family announce the sudden but peaceful passing of Reynelda MacNeil at the QEII Hospital in Halifax on March 11, 2014. Born in Sydney on Dec. 14th, 1937, she was the daughter of the late Michael and Sadie Mae MacNeil. Formerly of Intercolonial St., Reynelda was a long-time resident of New Dawn where she made many close friends over the years, especially Russell & Laurie. She loved her day trips, spending time with her friends at Cairdeil Place and in her younger years enjoyed summers at the family cottage in Grand Narrows. She is survived by her sisters Marguerite (Joe) Ryan, Shenacadie and Marie MacKinnon, USA; sisters- in- law Mildred and Jean MacNeil and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brothers Hector, Donnie and Clinton MacNeil; brother-in-law Steven MacKinnon and nieces Lorna Siegler, Paula Marie MacNeil and two siblings in infancy Joseph & Annie MacNeil. John Theberge Born In: L'Islet, Quebec, Canada Born: September 12th, 1916 Passed in: Sydney, Canada Passed on: March 12th, 2014 It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our dad, John, aged 97, at Harbourstone Enhanced Care, Sydney on Wednesday, March 12, 2014. Born in L’Islet, Quebec, on September 12, 1916, he was the son of the late Joseph and Nelina (Thibault) Theberge. John was a member of St. Anthony Daniel Church, Sydney. Dad formerly ran a sawmill with his father and worked at Brookfield Dairy, Modern City Dairy, and Municipal Ready Mix. He loved doing jigsaw puzzles, reading, woodworking, playing solitaire and especially enjoyed Brenda’s potato pancakes. He is survived by his daughters, Yvonne (Gordon) MacVicar, Coxheath, Anne (Don MacIsaac), Sydney and Claire (John) MacPhee, East Bay; sons, John Jr. (Vicky), Woodstock, N.B., Joe (Brenda), Sydney and Phillip (Jo-Ann), P.E.I.; grandchildren, Doug, Angela, Lisa, Jason, Joey, Victor, Cindy, Natalie, Matthew, Luke and Cole; and 17 great-grandchildren. John was predeceased by his wife of 69 years, Carmel (MacLean) in January 2014. Born in Wagmatcook, Victoria Co., she was the daughter of the late Charles and Nancy (Googoo) Pierro. Mary was a member of St. Ann’s Mission Church, Membertou and St. Anthony Daniel parish, Sydney. For many years Mary was employed in Housekeeping departments at both St. Rita Hospital and Boston General Hospital. She was a very spiritual person having great devotion to St. Ann, St. Kateri Tekakwitha and especially the Virgin Mother, having made a lifetime commitment to missions at Chapel Island and St. Ann De Beau pre, Quebec. She is survived by sisters Annie Marie Denny, Lillian Dennis, Jessie Bernard, Lottie Johnson, all of Eskasoni; brothers Stephen (Rita) Pierro, Boston; Vincent Marshall (Victoria Peters), Eskasoni; by numerous nieces and nephews, by godchildren Glen Googoo and Walter Francis Jr.; by a step-daughter Felma Clare of Big Cove and by her 2 grandchildren. Born in Sydney she was the daughter of the late Walter Robert and Helene Marie (LeBlanc) Kiley. Alice was a lifetime member of St Louis C.W.L. for over 60 years. She is survived, by her sons, Roger McCalmont, Louisdale, Walter McCalmont, Toronto, Ont; sister, Annie Samson, Sydney; numerous nieces and nephews from coast to coast. She was predeceased by her first husband, James Alexander 'Al' McCalmont (1913 – 1959) and her second husband, Leonard Joseph Marchand (1919 - 2003); sister, Mary Alice Kiley; brother, William Austin Kiley. John Reilly Born In: North Sydney Passed in: Sydney Mines Passed on: March 11th, 2014 It is with heartfelt sadness we announce the passing of John Wilfred Reilly, 62, loving husband, father and grandfather, on Tuesday, March 11, 2014. Born in North Sydney, John was the only son of the late Wilfred and Mary Sheila (LeBlanc) (Reilly) Day. John was a 3rd degree member with the Father William Keily Council #5109, Knights of Columbus, North Sydney and a 4th degree member of Father William B. MacLeod General Assembly. He was a member of Holy Family Church, Sydney Mines. He was an alumnus of St. Thomas University and the College of Cape Breton. John was passionate about sharing his love of learning and taught at various schools when the Northside-Victoria School Board for 21 years until his retirement. John had many interests in life. He was an entrepreneur, motor cycle enthusiast, jack of all trades and outdoorsman who enjoyed camping, fishing, hunting and spending time with his family, especially at the cabin in River Bennett. He particularly loved the adventures he shared with his son Michael. John was a great storyteller with a wonderful sense of humour, and he always enjoyed hearing and telling a good joke. John will be sadly missed by his family and friends. Besides his wife Mary Theresa (MacIntyre) Reilly, he is survived by his children of whom he was so proud, Katherine (Jason) Campbell, Colleen, Laura and Mairibeth and Michael; his two precious grandsons, Ryan and Evan Campbel; his mother and father-in-law Thelma and Gerald MacIntyre, who were very special to him; several aunts and uncles and numerous dear cousins. He is also survived by his stepbrothers and sisters, Tom Day, Lawrence Day, Irene Messenger, Alfred Day, Leslie Day, Ida Matheson, Juanita Parks, Jenny Day, Cathy Day and Denise Maxner. John was predeceased by his parents, stepfather, Lawrence Day, stepbrother, Pius Day and uncle Barry LeBlanc. There will be no visitation by request.
