Mae Sparkes Born In: St. John's, Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada Born: December 16th, 1938 Passed in: Sydney, Canada Passed on: March 28th, 2014 It is with heavy hearts and a feeling of great loss, we the family of Mae Sparkes regret to announce her passing on March 28, 2014, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, surrounded by her loving family. Born in St. John’s, Nfld., on Dec 16, 1938, Mae was the oldest child of the late Arthur and Aletha (Dwyer) Farr. Mae was a resident of MacGillivary Guest home. She was a very kind hearted woman and will be sadly missed by many family and friends. She was well known across Cape Breton for her psychic ability. Some of her amusing stories have been captured in her biography “A Psychic Journey”. In her earlier years she worked for Major Foods at various high schools. She is survived by her children, Rose (Donnie) Flood, Gordon (Dolly), Melvin (Lynn), Mae (Allison) Campbell and Shirley (Billy) Corbett; grandchildren, John (Melissa), Ryan (Stephanie), Mallory (Geoff), Shantel, Samantha, Branden, April, Chelsea, Cole and Tamara; great-grandchildren, Matthew, Jessica, Brett and Noah; sisters, Betty Guisti, Shirley (Wayne) Moore, Marie Farr and Heather (Glen) Hanna; brother, Gord (Julia) Farr; sisters-in-law, JoAnne (Frank) Adey, Jessie Farr and Cecilia Farr; as well as brothers-in-law, Kenny Redquest, Steve Wells, Woodrow (Sharon) Sparkes, Donald (Nancy) Sparkes, Gerald (Marg) Sparkes, Ernest (Georgette) Sparkes, Melvin Sparkes and John Crane. Barbara MacPherson Passed in: Glace Bay Passed on: March 27th, 2014 It is with broken hearts that we, the family of Barbara MacPherson, announce her passing on March 27, 2014, in the Glace Bay Hospital, with her loving family by her side. Barbara was a remarkable woman with countless friends, many of whom she met during her working-life at the Modern Co-op in Glace Bay. She was a parishioner of the former St. Eugene’s Parish, Dominion and was a long-time member of the choir. Barbara is survived by her three sons, Kevin (Lynn), Gardiner Mines, Charles (Carla), Dartmouth and Stephen (Barbara), Cole Harbour. “Gram” will truly be missed by her three cherished grandchildren, Meghan, Colin and Mason. She is also survived by her brothers, Kevin (Sharon) Corbett, Rannie (Diane) Corbett and by sister, Elaine Corbett; as well by her nieces and nephews. Barbara MacDougall Born In: Sydney Mines Passed in: Cornwall, Ontario, Canada Passed on: February 28th, 2014 With heavy hearts we regret to announce the sudden peaceful passing of Barbara, our beloved sister, aunt and friend on Feb. 28, 2014. She was the daughter of the late Alex and Margaret (Brown) MacDougall. She is survived by sisters, Joyce (Dave) King, Alexis (George) Penny and brother, Donald (Edna) MacDougall, also by half brothers and sisters, Cathy MacMullin, Kim MacKinnon, Joseph MacDougall and Alex MacDougall and by numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by brothers, William 'Buddy' MacDougall and Murdock MacDougall. Gerard 'Mick' Campbell Born In: Glace Bay Passed in: Sydney Passed on: March 28th, 2014 Gerard ‘Mick’ Campbell, age 61, of Glace Bay, passed away at An Cala Unit, Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney on Friday, March 28, 2014, surrounded by his loving family. Born in Glace Bay, Mick was the son of the late Louis Alexander and Helen Ann (MacDonald) Campbell. Mick was loved by family and many friends for his loyalty, quick wit and great sense of humour. He enjoyed family visits and going on hikes with his brothers and sisters. Mick shared a very special bond with his twin brother, Gerald ‘Duke’ who took such loving care of him during his illness. He was an avid hockey and baseball fan and enjoyed skating, music and dancing. Mick took great pride in his past work as a bartender. He is survived by four sisters, Catherine (Ronnie Barrett), Laura Russell, Paula Blois, Helen (Donnie Murray); six brothers, Tommy (Brenda), Neil (Susie), Louis (Marilyn), Gerald ‘Duke’ (Sharon), Francis (Patsy), Kevin and many nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, Mick was predeceased by his brother, Paul, sister, Eleanor; nieces, Karen and Louise; nephews, Max and Gregory. Cremation has taken place. David was the youngest son of Gertie and the late Roy Thomson of Glace Bay. David was a leafs fan, he enjoyed everything about the game of hockey especially the days he could watch his son DJ play. David also had a love for working with wood, a love that he inherited from his grandfather, Butler, as well as many other skills he picked up from his dad. David will be forever missed and survived by his children, David James 'DJ' Gale and Keisha Fraser; his mother, Gertie Thomson; sister, June (Terry) MacLean; brothers, Willie (Valerie), Eric (Janice), Keith (Margie). David is also survived by many nieces and nephews who will miss him, especially TerriLeigh MacLean, who he lovingly referred to as 'Liz' and his goddaughter, Blair Shelby Thomson. David also will be missed by special friend, Theresa 'TC' MacLeod. David was predeceased by his dad, Roy Thomson; soulmate, Patricia 'Tish' Gale, who we know are waiting for him with open arms. George 'Cheddie' Hollingsworth Born In: Sydney Mines Passed in: New Waterford Passed on: March 27th, 2014 It is with great sadness that we, the family, announce the passing of George Chesley 'Cheddie' Hollingsworth, 72, of New Waterford on Thursday, March 27, 2014. Born in Sydney Mines, he was the son of the late Chesley & Margaret (Burton) Hollingsworth. Before Cheddie retired, he was employed by Devco from 1957-1992. Cheddie loved working in the mines and would do it all over again. During that time he proudly served in the Military. Cheddie is known to his family and friends as the ultimate outdoorsman and craftsman; there was nothing he couldn’t do. He was known for his love for hunting, fishing, woodworking and leatherwork. His favorite passions were gun collecting and drag racing. His knowledge will live on in his children and grandchildren. Cheddie loved people and visitors, and was happiest when he was surrounded by his grandchildren. Cheddie is survived by his loving wife, Marilyn Leudy; sons, George Hollingsworth, Shawn Leudy (Tracey), Michael Leudy (Jasmine); daughters, Elizabeth Crummey (Bill) and Deborah Hollingsworth. Cheddie was also the proud grandfather to 14 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren, and host daughter, Aya Takino (Japan). Siblings, sisters, Gina Tsonos (George), Vivian MacLellan (Jamsie), Brenda Powell (Paul Chauke); brother Ronnie Hollingsworth (Linda). Cheddie will be fondly remembered and missed by many special friends. Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held Tuesday, April 1, 2014 at V.J.
