Cape Breton Deaths courtesy of CAPE BRETON GENEALOGY & HISTORICAL ASSOCIATION VISIT OUR WEBSITE - <http://www.cbgen.org/>www.cbgen.org NEW MEMBERS WELCOME Cape Breton Deaths March 05, 2014 Wednesday There were obituaries published today Robert Wilcox Dean - 89 yrs Emma Matthews- 69 yrs Diana Clare (Pemberton), Flynn - 80 yrs Robert Dean Born In: Sydney Passed in: Sydney Passed on: March 3rd, 2014 Robert Wilcox Dean, of Edgewood Drive, Sydney, passed away Monday, March 3, 2014, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney. Born in Sydney, he was the son of the late Alfred and Elizabeth (Wilcox) Dean. In 1986, Mr. Dean retired from Sydney Steel after 40 years, where he was employed in the Open Hearth and Metallurgical departments. He was a member and elder of Trinity United Church and a honorary member of Trinity Session; member and Past Master of St. Andrews Masonic Lodge #7 A.F.&A.M. and recipient of the Masonic Meritorious Service Medal; Past Grand Lodge Officer and member of the Shriners and a Philae Legion of Honor; Past President of the Whitney Pier Y’s Men and Past District Governor of the Cape Breton-Nfld. Y’s Men. During the Second World War, he served in the RCAF. Robert was predeceased by his wife, Mary 'Penny' and sons, Sheldon and Billy. The last surviving member of his immediate family, he was predeceased by brothers, Jack, Edward, Gerald and Fred and sisters, Ruth and Margaret. Robert is survived by his daughter, Gloria; sons, Robert, Gary and John (Ann Marie); and grandchildren and great-grandchildren. There will be no visitation by request. A private family service and interment will be held at a later date. Memorials may be made to St. Andrews Lodge or a charity of your choice. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.sydneymemorialchapel.ca or e-mail [email protected] Emma Matthews Born In: Bras d'Or Passed in: Toronto, Ontario, Canada We the family are saddened to announce the passing of a dear wife and mother, Emma, at Toronto General Hospital, surrounded by her family. Born in Bras d'Or, she was the daughter of the late Jack and Emma Penny. She is survived by her husband of 48 years Les Matthews; children, Ricky (Laura) Penny, Nancy (Daryl) Sproul, Kim (Owen) Sullivan, Leslie (Laurie); also survived by a very special grandson, Christopher Matthews; by 10 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren who were also special to her; brothers and sisters, Berg (Katherine), Stewie (Noreen), Gertie Bonnar, Debbie (Oscar) Arsenault. She was predeceased by her brother Tren, sisters ,Jane Hannigan, Hilda Marsh, Joyce MacPhee, Mable Osmond, Delores MacDougall and her in-laws, Les and Jean Matthews. Service will be held Monday, March 10, 2014, at 11 a.m. in Trinity Anglican Church, Sydney Mines, with Rev. S. Lemoine officiating. Luncheon to follow in the church hall. Family flowers only. In lieu of flowers a memorial donation may be made to Haley Street Adult Centre or a charity of choice. Diana Flynn (Pemberton) Born In: Glace Bay Passed in: Michigan Passed on: December 16th, 2013 The family of Diana Clare Flynn (Pemberton) are saddened to announce her passing in White Lake, Michigan, December 16, 2013. She was 80 years old. Diana was born in Glace Bay, the daughter of J. Earle and Dorothy (Provoe) Pemberton. After graduation from Morrison High, Diana was employed at the General Hospital as a secretary. She then immigrated to the USA, residing in Michigan for a short time before taking a position at Mt. Sinai Hospital in Chicago as a medical secretary. In Chicago she met her future husband John Flynn, they married in 1958. John's career took the family to many places in three states, the last 21 years in White Lake, Michigan. Fifty-four years after they married, John passed away in August of 2012 with a heart condition. Over the years Diana returned to visit parents, family and friends in Glace Bay and remained a Canadian citizen her whole life. She was an avid gardener, reader, incredible mom, wife and grandmother. Family always came first. Diana represented all that is loyal, generous and sensitive in the human spirit. She will be truly missed by her family and friends. She is survived by daughter Susan Krasofsky, husband Tom and their twin sons Ian & Tyler, living in Commerce, Michigan; son Stephen Flynn in Mt. Airy, Maryland; brother Rolly & wife Myrtle and family in Kingston, NS; plus many nieces, nephews and relatives in Nova Scotia and the USA. Besides her parents Diana was pre-deceased by her sister Carole Ann; brothers Eddie and David. Cremation has taken place, burial at a future date.
