Born in in Glace Bay, he was the son of the late Charles and Elsie (Penny) Jones. Byron had some obstacles in his life and most he overcame with great determination, he was able to get his driver’s licence and his hidden talent was his passion for painting landscapes at home and his love of Old Trucks. Byron will also be missed in his neighbourhood for his daily visits where many looked out for him. He will be sadly missed by many family and friends. He is survived by sisters, Bertha Morgan, Charlotte Isnor, Alice Bodhaine and a brother Allan Jones. Besides his parents, he was predeceased a sister in infancy and a brother-in-law Danny Morgan. There will be no visitation. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, March 27, 2014, at 10:30 a.m. in the Patten Funeral Home Chapel, 71 Union St., Glace Bay, with Rev. Vernon Reid officiating. Margaret Ann 'Maggie' Costello (McCabe) Born In: Sydney Passed in: Sydney Passed on: March 23rd, 2014 It is with heavy hearts that we the family announce the passing of Maggie Costello, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, on Sunday, March 23, 2014. Born in Sydney, she was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William and Greta (Fidgen) McCabe. Maggie found great joy in nature, going for walks, and spending time at the beach, especially her summers in Ingonish with her family. She also enjoyed scrapbooking, and giving her time as a volunteer wherever she was needed. Besides her parents, Maggie is survived by her daughter, Leah Costello, Edmonton; fiancée, Dana Throwbridge, Ottawa; sisters, Kathy (Jay) Fowler, New Jersey, Mary McCabe (Peter Brown), Edmonton; brother, Sean (Joanne Frost), Bridgetown. She is also survived by her aunt Jerry, Sydney, best friend, Diane (John) and many nieces and nephews. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be at a later date. Elizabeth 'Betty' Windeler Passed in: Port Hawkesbury, Nova Scotia, Canada Passed on: March 21st, 2014 It is with sad and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Elizabeth 'Betty' Windeler on Friday, March 21, 2014, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney at the age of 78. Betty was the daughter of the late Tom and Anne (Boland) O’Keefe, of Bishop’s Falls, N.L. She was a mother of seven children who have many fond memories of camping in P.E.I. every summer. She was a 25-year member of the Port Hawkesbury Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary and an Avon representative for many years. Betty was an avid bowler, bingo player and darts player. Throughout the years, she and Bruce travelled as far away as Germany and Australia visiting friends and family. She enjoyed many card games with her children and grandchildren. She touched many lives through her work at SAERC and the Vocational School cafeteria. Betty is survived by her husband of 59 years, Bruce; by sons, Henry (Janet), Labrador; Keith, Athabasca, Alberta; daughters, Dorothy (Gary) and Colleen (Shawn) all of Sydney and Charlene (Darren), Calgary ; also many cherished grandchildren, Katherine, Daniel, Shane, Megan, Matthew, Mark , Steven, Laura, Beth, Michael, Hannah, Zara, Sarah, Thomas, Sofie and Emily, great-grandchildren, Hayden, Lauren, Blake, Elizabeth, and Nicholas; sisters, Madelyn Gray, Stephenville, N.L.; Eleanor (Greg) Dorken, Medicine Hat, Alberta; Lynn (Sonny) Stride, Powell River, B.C.; brothers, Gill (Jen), Stephenville Crossing, N.L.; Jim (Gen), Neil, all of Bishop’s Falls, N.L.; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her sons, Ross and Brian; daughter-in-law, Brenda, sister, Mary (Harry) Baird; brothers, Ron, Gerry, great-nephew, Harry K. Baird; sister-in-law, Marion O’Keefe; brother-in-law, John Gray. Visitation will be held 7-9 p.m., Wednesday in Dennis Haverstock Funeral Home, Port Hawkesbury and from where the funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday with Fr. Susan Pearl McNamara Born In: Sydney Born: September 12th, 1964 Passed in: Richmond County Passed on: March 22nd, 2014 It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Susan Pearl, 49, on March 22, 2014, at the Strait Richmond Hospital surrounded by her loving family. Born in Sydney, Susan Pearl was the youngest child of Hugh and Anna (Ashe) MacDonald, Oban. Susan was a loving wife to Stewart, her devoted husband of 24 years of Oban and proud mother of Samantha and Brian. She is also survived by her brothers, Joseph (Colleen), Calgary, John (Debbie), Oban; sisters, Cheryl (Sheila), Port Williams and Jean (Jerry) Lewis Lake, and many nieces and nephews also survive her. Susan graduated from St Peter’s District High School in 1982, received a BA degree in political science from Acadia University in 1985 and a paralegal diploma with honours from UCCB in 1987. During her career she was employed with Sampson McDougall, Sydney; Ivo Winter, Arichat; LeBlanc MacDonald/Boudrot Rodgers and Evans MacIsaac MacMillan, Port Hawkesbury. Resting in the River Bourgeois Funeral Parlor with visitation on Tuesday and Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral Mass will be offered Thursday at 1 p.m. from St. Peter Roman Catholic Church, St. Peter’s. Interment in the Oban Cemetery with a reception to follow at the Glebe House basement, St. Peter’s. Special thanks are extended to Drs. Laryea and Peltekian and nurses of Unit 6B VG Hospital; doctors and nurses at St Martha’s Hospital and to the doctors, nurses and staff of the Strait Richmond Hospital for their kindness and compassion. Wanda Shannon Leaone MacDougall Wanda MacDougall, 80, of Glace Bay, passed away peacefully with her family by her side at the Glace Bay Hospital. Born in Glace Bay, she was the daughter of the late Mae and Edward Baird. Wanda is survived by her loving and devoted husband of 62 years, Tom. She leaves behind daughters, Gi-Gi ( Jackie) Burke, Kim (Duncan) MacQueen, both of Glace Bay, Darlene (Reid) MacQueen of Hamilton and a son Shane (Margaret) of Arnprior. Wanda adored her grandchildren, Darren, Daniel, Brad, Taylor, Neil, Tyler, Keith, Kenneth and Thomas, and especially her cherished four-legged sidekick, Charlie. Wanda is also survived by a brother, Keith. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her sister, Jean, and a brother, Warren. There will be no visitation by Mrs. MacDougall’s request, cremation has taken place. A private family memorial service will be held on Wednesday, March 26, 2014, at 2 p.m. in the Patten Funeral Home Chapel, 71 Union St., Glace Bay, If there is inclement weather this service will be held on Thursday, March 28, at 2 p.m. Donations may be made to the Nova Scotia Diabetes Association or a charity of your choice.
