SHANNON It is with profound sadness and heartbreak we announce the passing of our wonderful, caring mother, grandmother, sister and lifelong soul mate, Ruth Elaine Shannon, 70, on February 23rd, 2014. She passed away peacefully with her children and husband by her side, at her home and most cherished place, Shannara, in Long Point, Nova Scotia. “Ruthie,” as she was affectionately known, was born in Whitney Pier on March 26th, 1943. Her birthmother Mary (McDonald) Cameron passed away when she was only 2 years old. Her father, the late Nevin Cameron (1965), whom she greatly loved and admired, remarried Christina Mae Cameron, who raised her and remained a great and warming influence in her life until she passed in 2005. She was loved and respected by all those who knew her. She left a lifelong impression with just one encounter with her genuine warmth and smile. She was as comfortable at Rideau Hall as she was with her hands full of soil in her garden at Shannara. She was always the classiest lady in the room, her style and grace only being outdone by her ability to make those around her feel comfortable and welcomed. More than anything else, she dedicated her life to her family. She epitomized the saying, “Behind every great man stands a great woman.” She was a dedicated and caring wife to Joseph Shannon who together built a strong and loving family. Her children, Joel, Mark (Patti), Bruce, Jennifer (Joe) White and Jason (Kari), adored everything about her, and her memories will be with them forever. She was the type of mother who loved her children equally and unequivocally. She provided her family with storybook summers at Long Point with countless visits from friends and relatives all summer long, playing games, eating fresh vegetables from her garden and sipping hot chocolate into the late evenings, ensuring everyone wanted for nothing despite having no electricity or running water. She loved her grandchildren as if they were her own children. Jessica, Samantha, Kristina, Cameron, Daniel, Mathew, Joseph, Marcus, Ryan, Jarrett, Sarah, Emily, Julia and Gregory have all been blessed with her influence, and they will never forget her generosity and their wonderful times with her at Shannara. She is also survived by her siblings, Helen Munro and Rev. Ronald (Jean) Cameron. She was predeceased by her three sisters, Margie (Henry) Mackenzie, Evelyn Wood and Marie MacLeod, and her brother Buddy Cameron. Over the years she was supported wonderfully by her physicians, surgeons and nurses. It seemed like she was always the most popular patient in care as they seemed to learn as much from her as she from them. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada or the Arthritis Society. Visitation was held at Dennis Haverstock Funeral Home, 724 Granville St., Port Hawkesbury, on Friday, February 28th, 2014. A celebration of Ruth’s life was held at the Judique Community Centre on Saturday, March 1st at 11:30 a.m. Words of comfort may be forwarded to the family at: www.haverstocks.com. TIMMONS Marjorie Rose Timmons, 66, of Petit Etang, formerly of Pleasant Bay, passed away February 22nd, 2014, in Sacred Heart Community Health Centre, Cheticamp. Born in Pleasant Bay, she was a daughter of the late George and Frances (Murray) MacIntosh. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Marjorie was very passionate about her baking, hunting and trout fishing. She loved going for drives with her husband Neddie looking for treasures at yard sales. She loved to laugh, loved her mi-carême mask making. Marjorie and Ned always made sure that they were home in time for bingo. She is survived by her husband, Ned Timmons; sons Randy (Kevin) Timmons, Roger (Lucille) Timmons and Blair (Michelle) Timmons; daughters Sharon (Reg) Moore and Kathy (Gary) Gomes; sister-in-law Marie MacIntosh; grandchildren Corey Timmons, Shana Moore, Hillary Timmons, Shawn Moore, Jonathan Timmons, Kyla Gomes, Keenan Gomes, Krysten Timmons, Gracie Timmons and William Timmons; great-grandchildren Carson, Roman, Brielle and Jayden. She was predeceased by her brother Reginald MacIntosh; sister Shirley Urquhart. The body rested at Cheticamp Funeral Home. Funeral service was held on Thursday, February 27th, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. in St. Andrew’s United Church, Pleasant Bay, with Rev. Margie Wood officiating, burial in Pleasant Bay Cemetery. Donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia or Canadian Diabetes Association. Dad was a well-known barber in the Sydney Area for over fifty years. He loved his work and the opportunity to connect with the public. He had an amazing gift to get to know people and rarely forgot a name or failed to make a connection with everyone he met. Dad was a father to not only his seven children but also to their friends. Everyone was welcomed and cared for at the “White House.” Although Dad lived most of his adult life in Sydney, the village of Inverness, where he was born and raised, always had a special place in his heart. He was the son of the late Stewart and Julia (MacIntosh) White. Dad will be sadly missed by his children, Kendra (Robert) MacDonald, Lloydminster; Bill (Elaine), New Glasgow; Lloyd (Susanne), Sydney; Laura (John) Rykunyk, Sydney; and Julia, residing at home; son-in-law Brian Thomey, Sydney; ten grandchildren including two who resided at home, Devan and Kirkland; eight great-grandchildren; brothers Stewart, Windsor; Percy, Belle Côte; James (Winnie), Inverness; sisters Margaret, Inverness; Judy Conrad, Dartmouth; sister-in-law Leslie “Bunny” Urquhart, West Bay; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Dad was predeceased by his wife Catherine (Urquhart); son Wally; daughter Blanche Thomey; a son in infancy; and sisters Norma and Georgina. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Canadian Liver Foundation or the AnCala Palliative Care Unit or a charity of choice.
