Born in River Denys to Susie and Colin Martin. Rachael was a special friend of many and dearly loved little children. She thrived in helping those who were not as fortunate as others. Her quick wit and humour will always be remembered by those who crossed her path. Her cooking skills were appreciated at the hospital, the convent and many areas in the community where she has served many with joyful hands. Rachael is survived by her son, Willie (Gerry) and daughter, Susie (Henry); grandchildren, Lloyd (Kathy), Patti (Darren), Debbie (Norm); great-grandchildren, Evan, Amy, Jacob, Emily and Craig. She was predeceased by a brother, Arthur, sister, Dolly and loving husband, Alex (Mickie) of many years. The family wish to acknowledge the special care given to their mom at Alderwood with all there xxx’s and hugs, the medical staff and all who helped in many ways. Winston Bernard Passed in: We'koqma'q First Nation Passed on: April 25th, 2014 The giver of Life, hero, son, brother, uncle and friend passed away Friday, April 25, 2014, at the young age of 50. From We’koqma’q He resided in Wagmatcook with his partner, Margaret Peck. He was greeted in heaven by his beloved parents Noel J. and Teresa Bernard. Winston passed away at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney, surrounded by his family and friends. An athlete and avid runner he was well known in Unama’ki (Cape Breton) participating in the N.S. Mi’kmaw Summer Games and various charities including the Terry Fox Run and Johnny Miles Marathon. He will forever be remembered as a “Hero” for donating his organs and tissue so others can live, laugh and run. Winston worked hard for many years for the Waycobah Band Council as a landscaper. A spiritual man he loved to read the Bible, tell stories and jokes followed by a smile that can light up a room. He was a Proud Uncle who loved each and every one of nieces and nephews. Left to mourn are his brothers, Christopher, Wagmatcook; Dale (Sharon), Paq’tnkek; Barry (Doody), Eskasoni; Gerald, Kevin and Rodney, all of We’koqma’q. He will be missed by his sisters, Patty, Lindsay, Pamela (Brian) Toney, all of We’koqma’q and Florence Phillips, of Houlton, Maine. He was loved by his partner, Margaret Peck and her son, Brendon, Wagmatcook. Surviving are his uncles, Edward Francis and Francis Joe Francis, Wagmatcook; aunts, Pearl Googoo, We’koqma’q; Annette Olsen, Wagmatcook; and Annie Joe, New Hampshire. Formerly of Mill Creek, she was the daughter of the late Nathaniel Campbell and Mary Hazel (Marsh) Campbell. Linda had many enjoyments in her life, and one especially was her dog, Lucky. She was very involved in her music and enjoyed singing and entertaining the veterans at both hospitals on the Northside. She was an avid knitter and made sure anyone she came in contact with had mitts and scarves to keep them warm. She was always concerned with everyone's best interest. Linda will be forever sadly missed by her loving sisters, Geraldine 'Dia' (Murdock) Power, Joan (Ivan) Jessome, Brenda (Wayne) Howley; sister-in-law, Betty Campbell, all of Mill Creek. She will also be missed by her many nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends, especially her loyal and steadfast friend, Deanna, whom she loved like a sister. Also John and Janie, who were always there for her. Linda was predeceased by her parents, her brothers, Ronald Campbell, baby Kevin and her sister, Yvonne (Billy) Munro. Born in Glace Bay, Lauchie was a son of the late Alfred Edward and Mary Catherine (O’Neill) McKay. Lauchie enjoyed golfing and his involvement with the Pictou County Minor Hockey Association. He is survived by his son, Francis; grandchildren, Jensen and Keigan; great-granddaughter, Lileigh; sisters, Mary (Max) MacDonald, Genevieve 'Jenny' (Stanley) Blanchard, Pamela (Herbie) Fahey; a brother Daniel, and a very dear friend Carolyn. Sharon (Burroughs) Hubeny Born In: Glace Bay Born: January 7th, 1948 Passed in: Hamilton, Ontario, Canada Passed on: April 16th, 2014 It is with great sadness I announce the passing of our sister Sharon. She died peacefully on April 16, 2014 in hospital in Hamilton, Ont. with her husband at her side. Born in Glace Bay, January 7, 1948, she was the daughter of the late Neil and Catherine Burroughs. She is survived by her husband John. Sisters, Cecilia Baillie, Glace Bay and stepsister, Anne Tobin, Halifax: sisters-in-law, Georgie and Carmel Burroughs and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her first husband, Leonard Tobin; parents-in-law; sister, Kay; brothers, Neil and Joey; stepmother, Sissy; brother-in-law, Bill and nephews, Neil and David. She was a wonderful sister and will be missed. Sharon will be cremated with burial in St. Catharines, Ont. at a later date.
