Stockley - 93 yrs John Daniel Stone - 82 yrs Jessie Margaret O’Leary - 95 yrs Frank Chezenko - 92 yrs Shelia (Briggs) Kennedy - Ann Marie (Drohan) McNabb - Charles 'Dede' Sharpe Born In: Sydney Passed in: Sydney Passed on: April 2nd, 2014 It is with broken hearts that we, the family of Donald 'Dede' Sharpe, announce his passing at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney, on Wednesday, April 2, 2014. Born in Sydney, he was the son of the late Charlie and Peggy Sharpe of New Waterford. Dede retired from Devco after 35 years of working for the company. He is survived by his wife, Audrey Sharpe; daughter, Wendy Sharpe (Pat Vassallo); sons, Donald (Judy) and Wayne; grandchildren, Jason and Michelle. Also surviving are his siblings, Bob, Sandy Sharpe and Elaine MacPherson; stepchildren, Barbara Goodale-MacMullin and Peter Goodale. Cremation has taken place. A time of remembrance will be held Saturday, April 5, 2014, at 2 p.m. in the S.W. Chant & Son Funeral Home Chapel, 564 Alexandra St., with Rev. Sheldon Chant officiating, followed by a reception. Hazel Stockley Born In: Rocky Point Ingonish Born: January 14th, 1921 Passed in: Sydney Passed on: April 2nd, 2014 Hazel Stockley passed away at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney on Wednesday, April 2, 2014, after a short illness. Born Jan. 14, 1921, in Rocky Point, Ingonish, Victoria Co., she was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Hazel was predeceased by her parents, Francis and Mary (Payne) Stockley; brothers, George and Henry; sisters, Elizabeth Leslie and Annie Stockley. She is survived by nephews, Lauchie, John and Bill Leslie; niece, Betty Fogarty and many cousins and friends in Ingonish. Cremation has taken place under the direction of Sydney Memorial Chapel. A memorial service will be held at St. Johns Anglican Church, Ingonish at 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 31, 2014, with Rev. Carolyn Sharp officiating. Interment in the parish cemetery. Condolences may be sent to John Stone Born In: Newfoundland Born: September 5th, 1931 Passed in: Sydney Passed on: April 2nd, 2014 It is with heavy hearts that we announce the sudden peaceful passing of John Daniel Stone at home on Tuesday, April 2, 2014. Born in Belle Isle, N.L., on Sept. 5, 1931, he was the son of the late William and Georgina (Styles) Stone. He is survived by his wife, Martha (McCarthy); two stepdaughters, Valerie (Jay) Hollohan; Joanne (Ian) Cann, both of Sydney and three grandchildren, Taylor, Stephanie and Ryan. He is also survived by his brothers, Harry (Joyce), Billy (Stella), Angus (Mary), Eric (Betty), all of Ontario, Jim (Helen), Labrador; sisters, Margaret (Ed), Ontario and Theresa (Tom), Newfoundland. John has many nieces, nephews, in-laws, grandnieces and grandnephews who will miss him dearly, and he will be missed by all who knew him, especially the staff at Casino Nova Scotia. He was predeceased by a sister Mary in childhood. He lived most of his life in Georgetown, Ont., where he retired from Ford Canada and recently settled in Cape Breton. John was a quiet soul; a very easygoing man who liked simplicity. He was a long-standing member of the KOC (Newfoundland Ontario, Sydney). John was an avid reader and a stellar crossword person. Visitation for Mr. Stone will be on Sunday, April 6 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at T.W. Curry Parkview Chapel. Funeral mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m., Monday in Holy Redeemer Church with Rev. Online condolences m Jessie O'Leary Born In: Birch Grove Passed in: Sydney Passed on: April 2nd, 2014 Jessie Margaret O’Leary, of Tometary Drive, Howie Center, passed away Wednesday, April 2, 2014, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney. Born in Birch Grove, she was the daughter of the late John and Katie (MacDonald) Hart. Jessie was an avid traveller, enjoying trips to Florida and across Canada, as well as visiting friends and relatives in Toronto. She never forgot her roots, always keeping in touch with many friends. Surviving are her sons, Gary, Howie Center and Calvin (Ginny), Toronto; granddaughter, Lyn Marie; great-grandsons, Aiden and Liam. She will be sadly missed by her nieces, Catherine Stone and Janet MacVicar. Jessie was predeceased by her husband, Cyril; sister, Sarah McInnis; brothers, Clarence and Stuart Hart. Visitation will take place at Sydney Memorial Chapel on Saturday from 4-7 p.m. A funeral service will be held in the chapel on Sunday 2 p.m., with Rev. Dana Feltmate officiating. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.sydneymemorialchapel.ca or email [email protected] Frank Chezenko Born In: Sydney Passed in: Sydney Passed on: April 2nd, 2014 Frank Chezenko, of Sydney Forks, passed away Wednesday, April 2, 2014, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney. Born in Sydney, he was the son of the late Alec and Genevieve 'Jessie' (Filek) Chezenko. Frank was a veteran of the Second World War, serving from 1942-1946. He was employed as a welder at Sydney Steel, retiring after 44 years of service. An avid sports enthusiast, Frank was a talented baseball player in his younger years and an excellent bowler. He loved and appreciated scenery, was an avid gardener, as well as a “Mr. Fix It.” If anything needed to be fixed, Frank was the one to do it. He loved to help others. Surviving are his wife of 65 years, Mary (Muise); children, Joseph (Nina) Chezenko, Beverley (Patrick) Power, Jon (Pam) Chezenko, Ronald (Debbie) Chezenko, Wanda Chezenko and Dawn (Charles) Wagg; brother, Gary (Elaine) Fougere; grandchildren, Sean and Stacey Power, Jaclyn and Joey Chezenko and Joe, Jessie and Sadie Chezenko; great-grandchildren, Kate and Julia Power. Frank was predeceased by his brothers, Edmund and Fred, as well as a sister in infancy. We would like to thank the staff of the Palliative Care Unit at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital. Daughter of the late William and Mary (McCann) Briggs of Donkin. Sheila is survived by her husband Errol, son Errol Jr. (Wendy), daughters Beth Baxter, Sylvia (Ken) Finnan, sisters Carmel (Winston) O’Leary, Sandra (Jerry) Clements and brother Tom (Elvira) Briggs. Also surviving are her six beautiful grandchildren. Funeral Mass will be celebrated Saturday, April 5, 2014 in St. Vincent de Paul Church, Ormocto, NB. Ann Marie (Drohan) McNabb Sydney Ann Marie McNabb (Drohan) beloved wife of Peter ( Sandy) McNabb and daughter of Mary Bridget and the late Charles Drohan passed into eternity peacefully at home on March 31, 2014, with her loving husband by her side. Ann Marie was a graduate of Sydney Academy and Dalhousie University. In her younger years she played basketball in high school and at the University of Kings College. She was employed at Citizenship and Immigration, retiring in 2000. Ann Marie was an outgoing and friendly person who enjoyed travelling and going to the beach, in particular her favourite beach, Kennington Cove. Since their retirement Ann Marie and Sandy enjoyed many good times together travelling and seeing new places. She was a devoted family person and to Ann Marie, her family was a very important part of her life. Ann Marie also had a great love for animals. Besides her husband and mother, Ann Marie is survived by her much loved only daughter, Shannon Bridget; brothers, Ray, Chuck (Patsy), Gerry (Arlene), Donnie, Terry and her only sister, Patricia Miller (Donnie). She is also survived by sisters-in-law, Nancy Drohan, Shirley Ross ( John), Judy MacDonald, Susan McNabb and brother-in-law, Kent McNabb (Cathy). Numerous nieces, nephews and cousins are left to mourn her passing, but in particular her beloved goddaughter, Jenna Pinhorn of Calgary, Alta. Ann Marie was like a second grandmother to Jenna’s two boys, Cole and Caden, whom she loved very much. Besides her father, Ann Marie was predeceased by her brother, Alison; brothers-in-law, Robert McNabb and James MacDonald; uncles, Jack and Phil O’Rourke and niece, Sara Drohan. There will be no visitation. A funeral service will be celebrated at Holy Redeemer Church on Saturday, April 5, 2014, at 11 a.m. with Fr. Paul Murphy officiating. Following the service a reception will be held at the Pier Community Funeral Home. Donations to the Cape Breton SPCA in Ann Marie’s memory would be appreciated. The family would like to thank the nurses in the An Cala unit and the nurses of the Victorian Order. Without the support of the An Cala unit and the VON, it would not have been possible for Ann Marie to go home and spend her last days in comfort with her husband.
