Born in Sydney Mines, he was a son of the late Alice Long. Jimmy moved to Cape Breton Residential Society in 1994. He was a kind and gentle man who welcomed all who entered his home. Jimmy enjoyed the simple pleasures of life; warm weather, good food and good company. He loved spending time with his caregivers and would go anywhere the car was going. Jimmy was often seen sitting at the New Bridge or at Lingan Wharf just relaxing and taking in the scenery. Jimmy touched many people in his lifetime, especially all of the people who had the privilege of working for him. We will all remember his sense of humour and wonderful smile. Jimmy will truly be missed by all. Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held at V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 380 Smith St., New Waterford at 12 noon on Tuesday April 22, 2014, with the Funeral Service at 1 p.m in the Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Duncan Roach officiating. Mary Fitzgerald Born In: Ingonish Born: February 25th, 1934 Passed in: Dingwall Passed on: April 16th, 2014 With heavy hearts we announce the passing of our dear Mother, grandmother and sister Mary Christina (Barron) Fitzgerald of Dingwall on April 16, 2014 at Buchannan Memorial Hospital Neils Harbour. Born in Ingonish February 25, 1934 to the late Alex and Doris (Williams) Barron. Mary was a member of St Joseph Parish Dingwall. Mary was a former member of the CWL and Ladies Guild. Mom was well known for her sewing skills in the community. She enjoyed singing the old war songs, playing cards with her friends and family and her nights out to bingo and cards. Mom also enjoyed friends and family dropping in for a cup of tea. Mary is survived by step mother Ella; children Doris (Walt) ,Pleasant Bay, Timmie (Joanne), New Waterford, Hugh Dingwall, Darryl (Pam), Pleasant Bay, and Joyce (Scott) Dingwall; also stepchildren Angus, Alex, Eliza, Peggie and grandchildren Justin, Sarah, Troy, Adam, Matthew, Breanna, Colton, Brookelynn, Morgan, Chet; great grandchildren Ethan, Miranda, Aaron, Mason, Hayden, Rylan, Braylan, Alex, and Lillian; numerous step grandchildren and step great grandchildren. Mary is also survived by sister Teresa; half- sisters Patricia, Sheila Shirley, Sandra, and half-brothers Mike and Gerald. Besides her parents Mary was predeceased by husband Emery; sister Mildred; step-daughters Joan, Marie; half-sisters Aletta, Betty; and half-brother Alex. McGillivray Funeral Home, Glace Bay. www.vjmcgillivray.ca Logan Harris Born: December 27th, 2005 Passed in: Sydney Passed on: April 17th, 2014 Logan Riley Harris, was born December 27th, 2005, passed away April 17, 2014 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital with his loving family by his side. Logan was the beloved child of Tracy Harris and Kelly Mollons of Sydney. Logan was a grade 2 student at Cusack Elementary. He was a wonderful little boy who truly enjoyed spending time with his cousins, playing with his friends, and wrestling with his uncles. He loved playmobiles and legos, catching bugs and playing with his little dog Angel. Just recently the CBRM Police Force welcomed him as an honorary police officer, because he always wanted to “catch the bad guys”. He possessed tremendous strength and perseverance, and with his courage, leads us to believe that each day is a blessing and an opportunity to create lasting memories. Logan was an inspiration to all who knew him. Born in New Waterford, Tony was a son of the late John and Marie (Coakley) Leudy. Left to mourn are his wife of 45 years, Mary (Ley); sons Tony (Michelle) and Albert; grandchildren Brittany (Tim MacLeod), Desiree, Tanner, Tyson, Lakyn and Joshua; sisters Bobbie (Paul Cross), Carol (Edward Larade), Anita (Fred Connors), Patricia (Charlie MacDonald) and Shirley Leadbeater; brother Robert (Bev); many nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, Tony was predeceased by sisters Jean (Wilson), Laurie (McCarthy) and brother Johnny. Tony worked as a coal miner for 24 years at Lingan and Phalen Mines. After retiring, he worked with Maritech Security as commissionaire. Tony will always be remembered for his sense of humor with a personality and smile that will be missed by everyone who knew him. Dennis MacKeigan Born In: Port Morien Passed in: Birch Grove Passed on: April 15th, 2014 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Dennis MacKeigan on Tuesday, April 15, 2014 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney, surrounded by his loving family. Born in Port Morien, Dennis was the son of the late Donald and Mary (O’Day) MacKeigan. He worked as a coal miner beginning in 1951, first in Broughton, then Caledonia and eventually retiring from No. 26 Colliery, Glace Bay. Dennis enjoyed fishing, tinkering in his barn and travelling to Halifax to visit his son and grandson. He was an avid Blue Jays and Toronto Maple Leafs fan. Dennis is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Arlene (Clements) MacKeigan; one daughter, Wendy Peach (Kenny); one son, Dennis Wayne MacKeigan; one brother, George; one sister, Janette Hayes (Dennis); sisters in law, Sylvia Clements, Isabelle Clements, Mary MacKeigan, Christine MacKeigan; three grandchildren, Natasha, Noelle, Dennis; one great grandchild, Lexi and numerous nieces and nephews. Dennis was predeceased by two sisters, Mamie Green, Margaret Ann Parsons and three brothers, John James, Bernie and Allan ‘Ted.’ Also predeceasing Dennis are brothers in law, Ellsworth Clements, Delbert Clements, Marvin Clements, Lonnie Clements, Wayne Clements, John Parsons, James Green and sisters in law, Jeanette Clements and Helen Clements. She was born in English Harbour, Newfoundland on July 31, 1940. She was the daughter of the late Dorothy and James O’Brien. She was a long-time member of St. Anthony Daniel Parish. She is survived by her son, Kevin, Sylvan Lake, AB; sisters, Florence (Gerald) Penny, Jean MacPhee, Patricia (Frank) Dariou; and brothers, Francis (Corry) and Ronnie. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her father, Stephen Dollimont, NFLD. She was formerly employed at St. Rita Hospital nursing office and for many years at the K-Mart until her retirement. John 'Pappy' Steiger Born In: New Waterford Passed in: Sydney Passed on: April 17th, 2014 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our husband, father, brother, grandfather and great-grandfather, John “Pappy” Steiger on Thursday, April 17, 2014 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital with his loving wife and family by his side. Born in New Waterford, he was the son of the late George and Bridget (Williams) Steiger. Pappy had worked in the coal mines for 20 years. He then worked for New Waterford Transportation & Public Works. Pappy’s love for the woods showed as he was an avid hunter, as well as a fisherman. He is survived by his loving wife Diane, daughters Debbie (Joe) Deveaux, Dartmouth , Beverley Steiger, Alberta; son Billy (Cathy), Dartmouth; sister Georgie Woodland, New Waterford; brothers Joey, Sydney, Jimmy (Terry), Ontario, daughter in-law Cheryl, brothers-in-law Jeff MacDougall and Brother Mattys,16 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren, as well as many nieces and nephews. John Head Born: June 16th, 1965 Passed in: Sydney Passed on: April 13th, 2014 It is with great sadness the family of John Robert Head announce the passing of their beloved brother at Harbourstone. He is predeceased by his mother Regina Donahue and his father John Joseph Head. He worked at the Mayflower Mall for a number of years and for the Cape Breton Oilers. He was with the team when they won the Calder Cup in 1993. He was also a steadfast Montreal Canadiens fan. He is survived by his sisters Renolda Head and brothers Barry Head of Sydney and Stephen Head and niece Brett and nephew Jordan of Sydney Forks. He will be missed and the family take comfort knowing that he is at peace with our Lord and his is with our parents. He was the son of the late Joseph and Margaret Usher, Gardiner Mines. Greg is survived by Sisters Lena, Ontario, Polly, Gardiner Mines, Karen (Jack) Ontario, Helen (George) Virgina, Brothers Hazen (Faith) Sydney, Bernard (Gail) Ontario, Fred (Dianne) Ontario. Greg was predeceased by his parents Joseph and Margaret Usher, his wife Betty (MacPherson) Usher formerly of Dominion, sons Paul and Allan, brothers Willie, Thomas (Buddy) and many aunts, uncles and nieces. Burial has taken place in Brantford, Ontario. Jordyn Maryssa Johnson 2, Eskasoni/Chapel Island Jordyn Johnson, 2, of Eskasoni/Chapel Island, passed away peacefully on Monday, April 14, 2014 at the IWK Hospital, Halifax. Born in Sydney, she was the daughter of Charles Johnson and Rayn Doucette-MacNeil. She was a member of Holy Family and Immaculate Conception parishes. Baby Jordyn was an exceptional child well beyond her years, who was known as ‘The Queen’ by all her friends and family. Throughout her short life she managed to smile in the difficult times and bring happiness to those who loved her. She is survived by a brother Aaron Johnson, Eskasoni; her paternal grandparents Arthur and Marcia Johnson and maternal grandparents Iris Doucette and Raymond MacNeil; her godparents, several aunts and uncles and extended family and especially her great grandparents Louise and Andrew Johnson. Visitation will begin for one day in Chapel Island on Tuesday after 4 p.m. at the chapel and resume the following day on Wednesday at the Gabriel Center, Eskasoni after 3 p.m. Funeral mass will celebrated at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday in Holy Family Church, Eskasoni with Fr. Martin MacDougall officiating. Interment in the parish cemetery.
