'Donna’ Nimmo - 50 yrs Frank Viva - 88 yra Sister Margaret (Agnes Margaret) Ellsworth 92 yrs Joan Margaret Penticost - 80 yrs Alexander Harrietha Born In: Sydney Mines Passed in: Sydney Mines Passed on: April 26th, 2014 It is with great sadness that we, the family of Alexander (Alex) Harrietha announce his passing on Saturday, April 26, 2014, at the Northside General Hospital. Born and raised in Sydney Mines, he was the son of the late Dan Joe and Mary (Dandy) Harrietha. Alex was a loving husband and father and enjoyed life to the fullest. He was a coal miner for 35 years, and a Branch 008 Legion member where he formed many long lasting friendships. He was very active and loved spending his free time bowling, playing darts and baseball with his friends, as well as spending time with his adoring family. He is survived by his loving wife of over 60 years, Dorothy Harrietha and their children, Deborah (Peter) MacDonald, Guelph, Ont., Mary Lou Harrietha, Guelph, Ont., Lorna Capstick, Sydney Mines, Danny (Mary) Harrietha, Fort McMurray, Heather (Leo) Bungay, Alder Point, Vince (Sherry) Harrietha, Fort McMurray, and Shane (Michelle) Harrietha, Guelph, Ont. Also left to mourn are many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, and nieces and nephews. Alexander is also survived by his brother Mick (Ann) Harrietha, Sydney Mines, and sister Pat (Stanley) LeBlanc, Sydney Mines. Besides his parents, Alex was predeceased by his brothers, Doug (Shirley) Harrietha, Vince (Vivian) Harrietha, Andrew (May) Harrietha, as well as his sisters, Rose (Dick) Roberts, Cecelia (Alfred) Forgeron, Effiebell (Orville) Proper, Jackie (Forbsie) LeBlanc and Josie (Bernie) Dugas, his grandchildren, Peter Capstick Jr., John Gregory Capstick, and son-in-law Peter Capstick Sr. There will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place under the care and direction of J.M. Jobes Funeral Home, Sydney Mines. A celebration of Alex’s life will be held on Wednesday, April 30, 2014, at 10 a.m. in Holy Family Church, (formerly St. Pius X) with Fr. Thomas John officiating. A reception to follow in the Royal Canadian Legion, Sydney Mines. In lieu of flowers donations in Alex’s memory may be made to the Canadian Lung Association, or to a charity of your choice. Dad, when God gave us gifts, He tried to be fair, But when we got you, We got more than our share Donalda 'Donna' Nimmo Born In: Niagara Falls, Ontario, Canada Born: August 8th, 1953 Passed in: California, Canada Passed on: April 22nd, 2014 With great sadness we announce the passing of Donalda 'Donna' (McIntyre) Nimmo, RN, from Fontana, California (formerly of Northside, East Bay, NS). Donna passed away on April 22, 2014, at Kaiser Permente Medical Center, Ontario, California, USA. She was born in Niagara Falls, Ontario on August 8, 1953. She is survived by her mother, Sadie (MacEachern) McIntyre of Northside East Bay, and predeceased by her father, Donald P. McIntyre (Truro, and Northside East Bay). Donna was a graduate of Riverview Rural High School (Coxheath, NS). She pursued a career in nursing and graduated with her RN from the St. Martha’s School of Nursing, Antigonish, NS. During her thirty-five year nursing career, Donna worked as an Obstetrics Nurse at several Canadian and US hospitals. She was predeceased by her husband, Jerome Nimmo (California) in 2012. She is survived by her siblings, Cindy, Tiller (Donnie) Glace Bay, NS, Sally McIntyre-LeBlanc (Peter) Sydney, NS, and Robert McIntyre (Angela) Mt Uniacke, NS. In her young adult life, Donna was a talented singer. She sang for mass services, weddings and funerals at St Mary’s Church, East Bay, accompanied by the late Mary T Fisher. A special thanks to her good friend, Char Banuelos, for her care to Donna’s health concerns; her good friend and neighbor, Ivan Alego, in caring for her home and her beloved dogs. Thanks to her friends for visiting her during her illness. Cremation has taken place. A Memorial Service will be announced at a later date. Frank Viva Born In: Sydney Mines Passed in: Toronto, Ontario, Canada Passed on: April 8th, 2014 The death of Frank Viva occurred April 8, 2014 at Sunnybrook Hospital in Toronto. He was 88. Born in Sydney Mines, he was the son of Maria Studio and Agustus Viva. He is survived by his wife of 64 years Barbara (MacNeil) and children Karen (John) and Frank Jr. (Julia) along with grandchildren Amanda, Camille and Mia, all of Toronto and one sister Tilly. He was predeceased by five brothers and eight sisters. A celebration of Frank's life will be held at a later date in Jersey Cove. Sister Margaret Ellsworth Born In: New Waterford, Nova Scotia, Canada Passed in: Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada Passed on: April 26th, 2014 Born In: New Waterford Passed in: Halifax, Canada Passed on: April 26th, 2014 Sister Margaret (Agnes Margaret) Ellsworth, 92, passed away in the Infirmary site of the QE II Health Sciences Centre, Halifax, N.S., on April 26, 2014. Born in New Waterford, Cape Breton, she was a daughter of the late Walter and Euphrasia (MacIntyre) Ellsworth. She entered the Sisters of Charity - Halifax on Aug. 17, 1939 and made her final vows on Aug. 15, 1948. In 1960, Sister Margaret received a B.A. from MSVU and a B.Ed in 1962. She also earned a Special Education (Auxiliary) Certificate. From 1942 until 1978 she was an elementary school teacher in several areas, including Glace Bay, N.S.; Rego Park, NY; Lowell, Mass.; Havre Boucher, N.S.; Halifax, N.S.; Eastern Passage, N.S.; Richmond Hill, NY; Shubenacadie, N.S.; and Terence Bay, N.S. In 1978, she volunteered her services in religious education until her retirement in 1993. Sister Margaret spent her retirement years in St. Stephen Parish until April, 2014 when she moved to Caritas Residence. Sister Margaret is survived by her sisters, Kay(Albert) Boudreau, New Waterford, and Agnes(the late Bud) Green, Carlisle, Ont.; by her nephews and nieces, Donnie(Gwen), Billy(Linda) Ellsworth, Maureen MacDonald; Paul(Wendy), Paulette, Andre, Mary Beth Boudreau; Jody(Philomena) Sutherland; Douglas(Jane), Darcy(Linda), Danny(Sue), Darrell(Terry), Denise Green, Danielle(Mark) McLure; Anne Ellsworth(Ben). She was predeceased by her brothers, William(Loretta) and Jody(Claire), her sister, Mary(Frank) Sutherland, and her niece Patsy(Glenn) Wainman. The body will be in Caritas Residence on Tuesday, April 29, with visitation from 3 p.m. until the prayer service at 7 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, April 30 at 10 a.m. in the Immaculate Conception Chapel in Caritas Residence. Burial will follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Lower Sackville, N.S. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Sisters of Charity Ministry Fund. Joan Penticost Born In: Sydney Mines Born: May 20th, 1933 Passed in: Sydney Mines Passed on: April 26th, 2014 With heavy hearts we announce the passing of Joan Margaret Penticost on April 26, 2014, at the Northside General Hospital. Born in Sydney Mines, she the daughter of the late Joseph and Elizabeth (Stewart) Johnston. Joan enjoyed going to the senior daycare at the Harbour View Hospital to listen to the music and also liked to play bingo. Joan was a member of St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church. Surviving are son Daniel (Nicole Herridge), Sydney Mines; sisters, Theresa (Truman Riely), Point Acconi, and Shirley Johnston; grandchildren, Tyler and Richie Herridge. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by husband Edward Earl Penticost, brother Joseph Johnston, sisters, Mabel Johnston and Ann Rumbolt. Cremation has taken place under the direction of Fillmore & Whitman Funeral Home, 10 Clyde Ave., Sydney Mines. Visitation for the late Joan Margaret Penticost will be held on Wednesday, April 30, 2014, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in Fillmore and Whitman Funeral Home. Memorial services will be held on Thursday, May 1, 2014, at 2 p.m. in Fillmore and Whitman Chapel with Rev. Marion Barclay MacKay officiating. Burial in Brookside Cemetery.
