Born on January 27, 1945 in Sydney Mines, he passed away at the Northside General Hospital in North Sydney, Nova Scotia, with his family and friends by his side in the evening of Wednesday, January 25, 2017, just 2 days shy of his 72nd birthday. Frank moved to Ottawa in 1967, and worked at the Ottawa Civic Hospital for 35 years, until he retired and came back to Cape Breton in 2001. Left to mourn is his loving wife, Rita (MacLean) Holic; his children, Brenda and Frankie (Lisa) and their mom, Louise Glogowski (Marinelli); his brother, John Glogowski; sisters, Sheila Glogowski (Danny) and Brenda Bailey (Harold). Also left to mourn are Lisa (Sheila), Danny (Laurie) and Johnny (Tracy); grandchildren, Brandon, Tyler, Jade, Hayley, Grace, Jack, Jordan, Kendra, Lucas, Owen and Holly, and his extended family, Margie (Fred), Ron (Larraine), Joe, Dena, George (Denise), Basil (Theresa) and Miriam and many nieces and nephews. Fondly remembered by the Marinelli family and close friends/family in Ottawa; Judy, Aurele, Steven and Debbie Blais and many more friends. Frank was known by all as a collector of everything Elvis and he fulfilled his lifelong dream, this past year, when he and Rita toured Graceland. One of his many joys was spending time at the campground with his many friends. He was predeceased by his parents, Frank and Aggie (Norman) Glogowski; sisters, Mae Cousins, Jean Finney and Patricia (Sister) Bailey and brother, Lenny Glogowski. In lieu of flowers, donations in Frank’s memory may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, or a charity of your choice. Visitation for Frank Glogowski will be held today (Friday), January 27, 2017, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in J. M. Jobes Funeral Home, 635 Main St., Sydney Mines. A celebration of his life will take place Saturday, at 10 a.m. in Holy Family Church, Sydney Mines, with Fr. James Oliver officiating. JOHN OLIVER Born In: GLACE BAY, Nova Scotia Passed in: GLACE BAY, Nova Scotia Passed on: January 25th, 2017 John Oliver, age 69 passed away on Wednesday, January 25, 2017 at Victoria Haven Nursing Home, Glace Bay. Born in Glace Bay, he was the son the late Bart and Christine (Murphy) Oliver. John was a labourer by trade and belonged to the Labourers International Union, Local 1115. He enjoyed playing darts and baseball. But mostly, he will be remembered as a loving, compassionate man who adored his grandchildren. John also had a great sense of humour. His is survived by his wife, Betty (Mischiek) Oliver; children, Darlene McCarthy (Todd), Debbie Oliver, Nicole Saccary (David), John McCarthy (Candee), Kevin McCarthy; sister, Lunda; two brothers, Dougie (Eileen), Sonny (Tori); ten grandchildren, Ryan, Cody, Tyler, Brooklyn, Brittany, Ty, Matthew, Keigan, Clinton, Jordan and one great-grandchild, Mason. Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held on Saturday morning from 9 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 11 a.m. followed by a reception, all in V.J. Mildred (Millie) Dolores MacDonald Passed on: January 23rd, 2017 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our mother, Mildred Delores MacDonald on January 23, 2017 at the age of 77. Millie was a residence of Taigh Na Mara, Glace Bay. Born in Gardiner Mines she was the youngest daughter of Patrick and Catherine (Boutilier) Gouthro. Millie was an avid reader, enjoyed playing cards and loved Cape Breton Music, in earlier years she was a member of St. James Church, Gardiner Mines. She is survived by son, Ken (Peggy), Calgary and daughter, Allison (Corey) Smith, Halifax; the light of her life her grandchildren, Miranda Silk (Sheldon), Calgary, Tyler and Rachael Smith, Halifax; great grandchild, Nyla, as well as many nieces and nephews. Millie was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Millie was predeceased by her husband, Harold in 2008; sisters, Anna (Leo) Mackie, Theresa (Ignasius) MacAdam, Kay (Norman) Mackie and Mary (Jimmy) MacLeod; brothers, Ronnie (Mamie), Aloysius (Janette) and Freddie (Anna). Cremation has taken place and a memorial service to celebrate Millie’s life will be held at a later date. Sarah Agnes Kane Passed on: January 25th, 2017 It is with great sadness and love that we announce the passing of our wife, mother and grandmother, Sarah Agnes Kane on Wednesday, January 25, 2017 in the Cape Breton Regional Hospital. Sarah was born in Grand Mira on June 11, 1950 and was the oldest of six children born to Hughie and Mary (MacLeod) MacArthur. After graduating from Riverview High School, Sarah met Reg and they married at St. Margaret’s parish in August of 1973. Sarah was a person of strong faith. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother who put family first. She worked for many years at the Maple Leaf Restaurant and was employed for over thirty five years at Woolco and later Walmart. She was an avid reader, loved animals, going out to eat and spending time with her many friends. At the time of her death, Sarah was a devoted member of Our Lady of Fatima parish. Sarah was predeceased by her parents; a brother, John Hugh (Ernestina) and her mother-in-law, Maude Kane (Edward). She is survived by her husband, Reg; her sons, Philip (Jennifer) and Michael (Trina); her grandchildren, Brittany, Faith and Thomas; her brothers, Jimmy, Danny (Rose), Francis (Margo) and Cameron (Judy); sister-in-law, Ernestina (MacArthur) and father-in-law, Edward Kane. Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held at T.W. Curry Parkview Chapel on Sunday, January 29 from 7-9 p.m. Funeral mass will be celebrated at Our Lady of Fatima Church on Monday at 11 a.m. with Fr. Duaine Devereaux officiating.
