I have an obituary For Frederick Linus Pottie.. Cape Breton Post, Thursday, May 9, 2002, Frederick Linus Pottie 84, New Waterford, The family of Frederick Linus Pottie are deeply saddened to announce his passing on Tuesday, May 7, 2002 at the New Waterford Consolidated Hospital. Linus died peacefully in his sleep at the age of 84. The son of Alcid Pottie and Helene Chiasson of Cheticamp, Linus grew up in New Waterford. He was spirited and witty, with a great love of cards, darts, and dancing. He was also tenderly devoted, to his wife Viola (nee Roche), his son, Ambrose, his grandchildren Clara and Geoffrey, and his many beloved dogs and birds. After first working in the mines, Linus joined the army and served bravely with the Cape Breton Highlanders in the Second World War. He was later among Canada's first peacekeeping soldiers, stationed in Germany and Egypt, after which he worked in Ottawa, Montreal and Halifax, where he served as Commissionaire of Halifax Bridge at Citadel Hill. He retired to his family house at 428 King Street, New Waterford and became a fun-loving member of the New Waterford Pensioners Club. Linus was predeceased by his brothers, Joe and Ambrose and his sister, Mary. He is survived and will be greatly missed and fondly remembered by his wife, Viola; his sister, Julia, Glace Bay; son, Ambrose and daughter-in-law, Patricia Pearson, Toronto and by his little grandchildren. Says Clara: "Grandpa's soul is in my heart." A memorial mass will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, May 11th at Mount Carmel Church with Fr. Donald McGillvary officiating. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 380 Smith St., New Waterford. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Canadian Arthritis Society would be appreciated. Condolences may be sent to the family at basilr@vjmcgillivray.com His parents are Alcide Pottie and Helene Chiasson. I am trying to hook up Alcide to parents are they are not listed in his death record in 1926. His marriage record is not contained in the records on novascotiagenealogy.com. I suspect his parents are Firmin Pate/Pottie and Sophie Benoit from West Arichat. Any confirmation would be greatly appreciated.
