Beloved wife of the late Joseph Martin McKenzie. Dear mother of Mary Michelle McKenzie Finn and her husband Christopher Finn of Sagamore Beach, MA, and Ann Marie McCarron (McKenzie) and her husband Bill of Winchester, MA. Cherished grandmother of McKenzieann Finn of Plymouth, MA, Christa Finn of Kingston, MA, Sarah and Samuel Finn of Sagamore Beach, MA and William and Joseph McCarron of Winchester, MA. Patricia passed peacefully in the loving arms of her family after a long but graceful battle with Alzheimers. She was born in 1921 in Sydney Mines Cape Breton and was a retired registered nurse. She was one of eighteen children of the late William R. and Sarah A. Bonnar (Bonner). She is survived by her sisters, Casilda Gillis of New Waterford, Theresa Jardine of Sydney Mines and Kay McGeen of Ontario. She was predeceased by brothers, William, Jr., Wilfred, Edgar, Alphonsus and Henry and sisters, Eva and Rachel Bonnar, Sarah E Higgins, Mary Magdalin MacNeil, Elizbeth Olszowiec, Angela Taylor, Rita Laforet, Monica Buchanon and Camillus Roth. Patricia was loved by all who knew her. Her sweet disposition and sense of fun will be missed by everyone especially her grandchildren. Mary Elizabeth Fagan Born: July 11th, 1926 Passed on: January 3rd, 2017 Mary Elizabeth Fagan passed away suddenly at Oakwood Manor January 03, 2017. Born in Sydney on July 11, 1926, she was the daughter of the late Alban and Esther (Lee) Fagan. Mary graduated from St. Joseph’s Hospital, Glace Bay as a Registered Nurse and from St. Francis Xavier University with an education degree. She taught nursing in St. Rita Hospital and nursed in Sydney, New York, Boston, Newfoundland and Halifax. She taught at several schools in the Dartmouth School District, including Bel Ayr, Southdale, Penhorn -Woodlawn and Bi-Centennial, retiring in 1991. Mary was a former member of Holy Redeemer Parish, Sydney and a faithful member of St. Peter’s in Dartmouth for almost 40 years and a member of the CWL. Mary enjoyed family gatherings, was a great cook and many friends and family enjoyed her culinary delights. She loved to travel and had many trips to Europe and throughout North America. She was an avid reader and kept up with current events. Mary was the last surviving member of her family and was predeceased by her six brothers, Michael, Henry, Edgar, Alphonse, James and John and her only sister, Margaret. She was a gentle soul who lived her life with kindness, charity and forgiveness. In Mary’s memory please do an act of kindness. She is survived by sister-in-law, Teresa, (Alphonse) and many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews, and her dearest friend, Brenda MacNeil and family. Visitation will be at Dartmouth Funeral Home, 29 Queen St. Dartmouth, Monday, January 9th from 7-9 with a mass of Christian burial at St. Peter’s Church, Dartmouth Tuesday January 10th at 11 a.m. Family and friends will gather at T.W. Curry’s in Sydney, Saturday January 14th from 8:30- 9:30 a.m. followed by interment at Resurrection Cemetery at 10 a.m. Diane Marie Dye Passed on: January 5th, 2017 It is with sadness we announce the passing of Diane Dye, 64, on Thursday, January 5, 2017, at Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney, surrounded by her loving family. Born in Glace Bay, Diane was the daughter of the late George and Edna (Dean) Pottie. Diane was a loving and devoted wife and mother, who dedicated most of her life caring for her family. She enjoyed playing bingo, playing cards and a good cup of Tim Horton coffee. She also loved and enjoyed cooking and baking for family and friends. Her biggest joy was being with her family. Diane will be remembered by her family and friends for being loving, kind hearted and for having a special place in her heart for all children, especially those in need. Diane is survived by her husband, Eugene Dye; children, Terry (Vanessa Ponee), Claudine (Billy) Rohrback, George (Wendy Dupe), Fred (Cara Leroy) and Blain; sister, Priscilla; 10 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; many step-grandchildren; nieces; nephews and a lifelong close friend, Marie Chiasson. Besides her parents, Diane was predeceased by her brothers, Ralph, George, Donnie and Dougie. Visitation and memorial service to celebrate the life of Diane Marie Dye will be held at Pier Community Funeral Home, 1092 Victoria Rd. (entrance on Church Street) on Saturday, January 7, 2017. A gathering of family and friends will take place from 10-11 a.m. with service to follow at 11 a.m. in the All Faith Chapel with Fr. Paul Murphy officiating. Light refreshments will be served in the reception area following the service. Private family interment will take place at a later date. Joseph Meagher Born: July 15th, 1917 Passed on: January 3rd, 2017 It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Joseph Meagher, age 99, on Tuesday, January 3rd, 2017, at Taigh Na Mara Veterans Wing, Glace Bay. Born in Brook Village on July 15th, 1917, he was the son of the late Lauchie and Catherine (Maclellan) Meagher of Brook Village, Nova Scotia. Joe served as a WWII Veteran as a member of the Queen’s Own Rifles of Canada for a five year period. He was shot and wounded but managed to survive the ordeal. In March 2014, Joe was awarded the French Legion of Honour Medal for outstanding bravery in the Invasion of Normandy in 1944. He was honoured by the Government of France, by being awarded the rank of Knight for his contribution to the combat that lead to the liberation of France. Joe made a living for himself and his family for many years in the Hard Rock Mines of Northern Ontario. At one point in his life, Joe was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed such things as hunting and fishing. Joe was a great story teller. He enjoyed sharing his experiences when he was in the war and also his experiences as a hard rock miner. Joe was always quick to express his love for his birth place and always kept his Cape Breton culture alive when away from his cherished island. Over the years, Joe was very fortunate to enjoy life with two women that he loved with all his heart. He was predeceased by his first love, Violet (Mills) Meagher in 1981. Joe is survived by the second love of his life of 34 years, Isabelle (MacPherson) Meagher. Joe is also survived by his sister, Helen MacDonald; daughters, Josie (Roy) Johnson, Joan (John) Moran, Bonnie (Rick) Atherton; 12 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren. Besides his parents, Joe was predeceased by his son, Joseph Lauchlin; brothers, Jim, Allan, Donald, Nick, John. A, Francis, John D and sister, Mary-Florence. A visitation will be held on Sunday, January 8th, 2017, from 6-9 p.m. at V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 380 Smith Street, New Waterford. A funeral mass, officiated by Fr. Ray Huntley, will be celebrated 10 a.m. Monday, January 9th, 2017, in the Parish Church of St. Leonard, Mount Carmel Ave., New Waterford. Burial will be in St. Michael Cemetery, River Ryan, with a luncheon to follow at the Knights of Columbus Hall, Plummer Ave., New Waterford. DIVINA FAIRBAIGN (LITTLE) HRUSHKA It is with heartfelt sorrow that we announce the passing of Divina on Thursday, December 8, 2016 just shy of her 82nd birthday. Beloved wife of Victor and loving mother of Terry, Kevin, and Rodney. Divian was the youngest daughter of seven siblings to the late George Russell Little and Joan Mitchell Walters of New Waterford. Divina was predeceased by her brothers, David, George (Rudy), William; Sisters, Joan Moroz, Margaret Bildfeld, May Wagoman. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren making them all feel special in her subtle way. Divina had fought off cancer but has succumbed to a lengthy battle with diabetes. EARL GREY (JUNIOR) WILKINSON Passed in: Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada Passed on: January 3rd, 2017 Earl Grey (Junior) Wilkinson born 1933, finally passed away quietly Tuesday, Jan. 3, 2017, at the Victoria General Hospital after enduring a long emotional and physical ordeal. His loving daughters supported him throughout at home for as long as possible with the help of friends. Junior was born in the shadow of the No. 2 Colliery in Glace Bay where he developed a love of travel. He was the son of the late Elizabeth (Binder) and Earl Wilkinson. He fell in love with Annette LeRoux and was wedded in Glace Bay. Junior was very proud of his military service (Egypt, Korea, Germany) and known by all as a real gentleman. His hard work resulted in three daughters gaining university, which he could never have dreamed of for himself. He leaves his daughters, Debbra (David Dawe) Wilkinson, Amherst, Nancy (Wilson deceased) Wilkinson-MacDonald, Hammonds Plains, Belinda Wilkinson, Clementsport; his dearly loved grandson, Forrest Dawe; sisters, Eunice (Albert) Young, Barbara (Ernie) Conron, both of Glace Bay, Gloria Leone (Cecil) Kelly (deceased); brother, Raymond (Josephine) Wilkinson, Newfoundland. Junior was predeceased by his wife, Annette in 2009. He will be buried at her side in Oakridge Memorial Gardens, Lower Sackville. James Moss Passed on: January 3rd, 2017 James Bernard Moss passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 3, 2017 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney. Born in Sydney, he was the son of the late Benjamin and Irene Loretta (Keating) Moss. Jim was career driven and a dedicated employee for 29 years of Sobeys, Prince Street location as the Manager of the Frozen Food department. He enjoyed spending time with his family and his favourite pastimes; playing golf and dancing. He is survived by his daughter, Shelley, Halifax; son, Darren, Sydney; grandchildren, Brandon, Heather, Asher; brothers, Joseph (Andrea); William (Bernadette Cormier); sisters, Caroline Baker, Irene Surette (Cliff); sister-in-law, Marlene Harris and nieces and nephews. Jim was predeceased by his brother, Benjamin and infant daughter, Shelley. A funeral service will take place on Saturday, January 7 at 1 p.m. at T.W.Curry Parkview Chapel. James Leslie Born In: Glace Bay, Nova Scotia, Canada Born: October 14th, 1934 Passed in: Connecticut, United States Passed on: December 7th, 2016 It is with deep sadness we announce the death of James P. Leslie, age 82, of Fairfield, CT. James passed away on December 7, 2016 at Bridgeport Hospital. He was born in Glace Bay, Nova Scotia to the late James and Helen Leslie. James was a retired machinist and a long time resident of Stratford, CT, before moving to The Ludlowe Center in Fairfield, CT. James was predeceased by his sister Wendy Leslie. He is survived by his three children Denise Aviles and husband Frank, Kevin Leslie and wife Sandra, and Brian Leslie; his former spouse Carol Leslie; six brothers and sisters, John Leslie and wife Katherine, Patricia Gaston and husband Wayne, Maureen Speranzo and husband Frank, Rita Duda, Ronald Leslie and wife Mary Lou, and Catherine Cooper; three grandchildren, Paul Jackson, Shannon Jackson and Patrick Jackson; one great grandson, Tristan Torres; and many nieces and nephews.
