Born in East Margaree, September 8th, 1949, to parents Willie and Annie-Rose (Doucet) Arsenault. My dad, Leo, lived life in an easy, simple way, but loved whole-heartedly. He loved to play cards, read his books, and to do crossword puzzles. He often did favours for people such as driving them to where they needed to go. Some of his favourite and cherished times were those spent with his son, Jean Paul. Accompanied by him while driving to work, we would listen to Fan 590, a Toronto radio station, and have many memorable conversations. In 2012, Leo wanted to spend some time with his elderly mother so he retired and moved back home to East Margaree. At home his kitchen was often filled with family and friends trying to have a conversation over the loud volume of CJFX radio or Zoomer Radio. However, it did not matter how loud the volume of the radio or how loud people talked, nothing matched the heights of his “larger-than-life personality”. Leo went to St. Francis Xavier University, Antigonish, and afterwards moved to Toronto, ON, where he was a key-player in the market research industry. He was “one of the few people that could be very down to earth and very professional at the same time”. The people he had worked with were very sad to hear of his passing. His friend Clyde, family members, Thomas, Clarence, Rita, his pet Chihuahua, Jack (often called his other son), and many other family and friends ensured his life was full of love and care as his health declined. In August his son Jean Paul also moved to Cape Breton to spend precious time with his dad. Leo is survived by his son Jean Paul; and sister Rita. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by stepfather Joseph Cormier; stepbrother, Marcel Armand; and stepsister, Pauline Dunn. Visitation was held at St. Michael’s Church, East Margaree, on Wednesday, January 11th. Funeral followed with Father Duncan MacIsaac officiating. Burial will be in the parish cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to The Sacred Heart Hospital Foundation or charity of your choice. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Sunset Funeral Co-operative, Margaree Valley. Online condolences at: sunsetfuneralco.op@gmail.com <mailto:sunsetfuneralco.op@gmail.com>.
