Another Angel gained her wings on Friday, February 24, 2017. Bernee passed away peacefully at Maple Hill Manor, New Waterford, NS, at the age of 84 years with her loving family at her side. Born in Glace Bay, NS, she was the daughter of the late Hughie and Elizabeth Reid. Bernee resided in New Waterford, NS, most of her life and was a member of the Parish of Saint Leonard. She was an outgoing and caring person whom was loved by all who met her. Family always came first to her no matter what. Bernee first worked as a housekeeper at St. Michael’s Glebe House. She then worked at the GI plant in Sydney for several years before retiring from the Woolworth’s lunch counter in New Waterford where many people enjoyed her cooking. In her spare time, she enjoyed knitting and baking for her family. Reading was also a passion of Bernee’s that she shared with her grandchildren through many visits to the New Waterford Regional Library. She was an avid bowler who was the “President” of her Wednesday night bowling league. For many years, Bernee and her close friends enjoyed each other’s company during their weekly games of scat. Bernee is survived by her husband, Pino Perin (New Waterford); her only daughter, Alanna (Kevin) Gallant (New Waterford); her three sons, Randy Perin (New Waterford), Joe Perin (Calgary) and David (Hectorine) Perin (New Waterford); grandchildren, Tammy (John), Tom (Amanda), Ryan (Natasha), Justine (Teagan) (all of Calgary), Joanna (Greg), Jason (New Waterford); great-grandchildren, Jillian, Cole, Will and Zander (Calgary). She is also survived by brothers, Frank (Mary) Reid (Baddeck) and Joe Reid (Ontario). Besides her parents, Bernee was predeceased by her mother-in-law, Corina (Crescenzi) Perin, father-in-law, Luigi Perin; daughter-in-law, Caroline (MacEachern) Perin; sisters, Peggy Anthony, Mary MacDonald, Agnes Hines, Ruth MacIsaac, Donna Higgins and brothers, Roddie Reid and Brian Reid. The family of the late Bernadette Perin would like to sincerely thank the staff at the Maple Hill Manor for their compassionate care over the last 16 years. Cremation has taken place. Interment will follow at a later date. Bernee’s grandchildren were the pride and joy of her life. The legacy of Bernee’s kind spirit, passion and zest for life will live on through them. Frank Long It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Frank Long, age 81, on Saturday, February 25th, 2017, at Northside General Hospital, surrounded by his family. Born on May 12, 1935, Frank was the son of the late Thomas and Margaret (Phalen) Long, Bras d'Or. He resided in Sydney Mines, and was a member of Holy Family Parish. Until his retirement, he worked as a carpenter, a member of the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America, Local 1588, Cape Breton. For many years, he proudly operated ‘A & F Bicycle Repair' on Fraser Ave, Sydney Mines. Left to mourn with fond and loving memories are his sister, Eileen (David) Lyle, Bras d’Or; sons, Frankie (Shirley), Sydney Mines, Albert (Holly), Guelph ON; daughter, Donna Marie (Travis) Marinelli, George's River; grandchildren, Kristyn, Jordan, Keghan, and Chelsey Long, Madeline, Molly, and Gracie Marinelli; great-granddaughter, Eden and numerous nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Rose Marie (Dalton); sister, Leona (Lloyd) MacLeod and brothers, Tom, and Russell (Catherine). Born on January 27, 1968, she was the daughter of Dorothy Parr and the late Neilie MacNeil. Margie had a profound love for her family, especially daughter Mobanda ‘Mo’ and son Larry ‘Red’. She enjoyed many evenings playing Bingo, darts, or having a card game. Margie had a huge heart, which was evident to all those who knew and loved her. Margie is survived by her daughter, Mo (Laura); son, Red (Katelyn) and mother, Dorothy. Loving grandmother to, Caysen, Hadden and Lynaya. Also left to mourn are sisters and brothers, Melinda (Earl) Burke, John (Shauna), Kimmy, Johnny (Rachel), Judy (Allan) Griffiths and Stevie; numerous nieces and nephews, cousins, and in-laws; special friends, Sally Tortola and Mary Phillips. Besides her father Neilie, she was also predeceased by the love of her life, Larry Phillips and brother, Wayne. A chapel service will be held on Wednesday, March 1, 2017 at 11 a.m. in the funeral home chapel with Deacon Leo Penny officiating. Burial at a later date. They are a sign of a pure heart.’ Aubrey Matheson Ross Passed on: February 24th, 2017 It is with regret and sadness that we the family of Aubrey Ross (90) announce his passing at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Friday, February 24. He was the son of the late Frank and Catherine Mae (Matheson) Ross. In his younger years he was a cook on the Yankee and was known to enjoy baking for family and friends. He worked for a number of years at MacFarlane's Garage in Baddeck and later for the Nova Scotia Liquor Commission, from where he retired. He was a member of the Free Wheelers, a proud Liberal and an avid harness horse racing fan. Aubrey is survived by his son, William (Claire MacLean) Baddeck; his grandchildren, Justin, Glacé Bay and Meaghan (Mark Spears) New Maryland, NB. He is also survived by his great grandson, Connell Spears and his sister, Marion Matheson (Allister) Blues Mills. Beside his parents Aubrey was predeceased by his wife, Margaret (MacLeod), June, 1997; two sisters, Evelyn Ross and Pearl MacDonald and a brother, John. His remains have been cremated and there will be no visitation by request. The funeral will take place at Knox Presbyterian Church, Thursday, March 2, 2017 at 10 a.m. with Rev. ELAINE MILLER Born In: PETRIES Born: December 8th, 1942 Passed in: Antigonish, Nova Scotia, Canada Passed on: February 26th, 2017 After a long journey with Cancer, Elaine, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family at St. Martha’s Hospital, Antigonish, Nova Scotia, Sunday, February 26, 2017. Born in Petries, Nfld, December 8, 1941, she grew up in Sydney, graduated from Sydney Academy and started a career with Air Canada. Elaine was involved for many years with the Sydney Rotary shows and early Follies as well as Sweet Adelines Chorale group in Calgary as a singer, dancer, and choreographer. Married to Joseph Lloyd Miller, they spent 40 years in Calgary raising their family and making many wonderful memories with great friends and neighbours. Elaine loved to travel and entertain and was a gracious hostess for many, especially any Maritimers away from home. That tradition of hospitality continued when she and Joe moved to Antigonish for their retirement in 2006. Elaine will be missed for her great love of getting together with the ladies for Bridge, swimming, coffee or a party. She greatly enjoyed volunteering for the CWL and St. Martha’s Hospital Auxilliary as well as supporting Joe with his decades of service with the Knights of Columbus. She will be dearly remembered for her devotion to her family throughout her life and the example of love, strength, and courage she provided to us all. Elaine was deeply grateful to all the many friends and relatives for the love and caring they showed her and Joe in her time in Calgary and Antigonish, especially during her time of need. Elaine is survived by her devoted husband of 50 years, Joseph; daughters, Meagan (David) Kennedy (Antigonish), Kerrie Anne (Scott) Roberts (Prince George, BC), Erin (Peter) Holub (Eckville, AB); grandchildren, Duncan, Hugh, Angus, Mairinn, Joseph, Bridget, Doyle, Keaghan, Ethan, and Nolan; as well as brothers, Don (Vancouver, BC), David (St. Margaret’s Bay), Lorne (Chatham, ON); brothers-in-law, Alex (Irene), Jerry (Teresa), Rohan, Danny, all of Sydney, Kevin (Fran), Orleans, ON, Darryl (Buck Lake, AB); sisters-in-law, Judith (Margaree) and Patricia (Jimmy) Willis (Sydney); and many dearly loved nieces and nephews. Elaine was predeceased by her parents, Abram and Maud LeDrew; parents-in-law, Alex and Marion Miller; special aunts, Blanche and Marjorie; brothers-in-law, Cyril, Brian and sister-in-law, Eunice. A special thank you to all those who provided comfort and care, but most of all friendship. Her doctors, the countless amazing nurses at St. Martha’s, the VG, and the VON have been the most wonderful examples of God’s grace and loving mercy in action.
