Candy was born November 16th, 1947, in Alton, Illinois, the daughter of Dick H. Mudge, Jr. and Jeanne (Godfrey) Mudge. Candy grew up in Edwardsville, Illinois. In 1971, with her then husband, John Lane, and daughter, Ann Morrison, she settled in Glencoe Mills, where she lived for most of the past 46 years. In the early years, Candy worked as a waitress at the Pioneer Restaurant in Judique and gave piano lessons in several communities. In the late 1980s, Candy left Glencoe for a few years, living and working in Halifax, NS and in Vancouver, BC. In 1990, she returned to Glencoe with her new partner, Daniel Côté. Once home again, Candy kept bees, taught piano, and gardened. She soon became a familiar face at Dr. Michael Ojoleck’s dental office, where she cheerfully greeted and served his patients for more than 20 years. Candy was well known as an active volunteer with many not-for-profit organizations, most notably the Inverness County Council of the Arts, the Mabou Farmers Market, and the Inverness County Chapter of the Council of Canadians. She was a political and environmental activist who fought tirelessly against the budworm spray (late 1970s) and against fracking in Inverness County (2012-2014). Candy also supported many social activist groups, including Breaking the Silence and Lifeline Syria Inverness County. A talented singer and pianist, Candy performed and enjoyed a wide range of music. Her passion for music and dance was often demonstrated by her exuberance at the many performances and events she attended. Candy, a lover of nature and trees, was an avid gardener. She also enjoyed sewing, movies, and the company of her many good friends. Candy will be greatly missed. Candy was predeceased by both her parents, her mother’s second husband, Eric Sturley, and three uncles. Candy is survived by her husband Daniel Côté; daughter, Ann Morrison (John Gillis); sister, Suzanne Mudge (Mary Ziskin); brothers Dick H. Mudge III (Amy Prentiss), and Thomas G. (Anastasia) Mudge. She is also survived by Daniel’s daughter, Venus Bivar; three aunts; numerous cousins, nephews, and great-nieces. Her cremation took place under the direction of Sunset Funeral Cooperative. A celebration of Candy’s life will be held at a later date, still to be announced.
