Ashford - 44 yrs Elizabeth Anne “Betty” Jones - 77 yrs Ronald ‘Ronnie’ McNeil Passed in: Sydney, Nova Scotia Passed on: February 3rd, 2017 It is with great sadness, that we, the family announce the passing of Ronnie McNeil, age 75, after a courageous battle with cancer on Friday, February 3, 2017 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney with his family by his side. Born in Glace Bay, he was the son of the late Bernard and Edith (Bentley) McNeil. Ronnie was employed at the Devco Machine Shop for over 25 years. He was also a volunteer member of the Glace Bay Fire Department for 25 years. Ronnie was a very faithful member of St. John’s Church in No. 2; and at one time was a member of the men’s club. He enjoyed going for walks and bird watching. But mostly, Ronnie will be remembered as a very loving and compassionate family man. He always looked for the good in people. Ronnie is survived by his best friend and companion, his wife, Louise (McLean) McNeil; two daughters, Paula (James) Edwards, Carolyn MacDonald (Andrew); one son, Ronald ‘R.J.’ (Karen); one sister, Barbara MacNeil (Anthony ‘B’); one brother, Kevin McNeil; sister in law, Marilyn Wheeliker; mother-in-law, Gennie McLean; in-laws; nieces; nephews; eight grandchildren, Travis McNeil, whom he raised as a son, Justin, Jeff, Andrea MacLeod, Morgan, Cameron McNeil, Victoria, Scott Lewis and two great grandchildren, Rylan and Karis MacLeod. Besides his parents, Ronnie was predeceased by his brother, George Wheeliker; father-in-law, Tom McLean; son-in-law, Scott Lewis and his sister-in-law, Beverly McNeil. Visitation will take place on Thursday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve Street, Glace Bay. The funeral mass, officiated by Fr. Leo Boone is Friday at 11 a.m. in St. Anne’s Church followed by a reception at the Glace Bay Fire Hall. Following the funeral mass, Ronnie will be cremated and interred in St. John’s Cemetery at a later date. Maurina Marsh Born In: Reserve Mines Born: May 25th, 1926 Passed in: Sydney Passed on: February 2nd, 2017 Our hearts break again as we say goodbye to a totally selfless person. Our sister and aunt Maurina passed away peacefully on February 2, 2017 at the Harbourstone Nursing Home in Sydney River. Born in Reserve Mines on May 25, 1926 to Henry and Mary Jane (Kanary) Marsh, she taught school for many years in Reserve, including serving as principal of Tompkins Memorial Elementary School. She constantly demonstrated her love of children through simple acts such as bringing sandwiches to school for children who had little or nothing. Maurina dedicated her life to the service of others, in particular her mother Mary Jane and her family. Maurina is survived by her sisters, Zita and Marie; brothers, Gannon (Brother Ninian), Fr. Anthony and Joseph and many nieces and nephews. Maurina was predeceased by her brothers, Joseph, James, Alphonse, Dennis, Sylvester, Henry, Stewart and Coady and sisters, Mary Ann, Dolores, Dophie and Gilbert. The family is thankful to the staff at Soldiers Cove for their kindness and attention. There will be no visitation. A funeral mass will be celebrated on Thursday, February 9 at 11 a.m. at Saint Joseph's Roman Catholic Church, Reserve, with Fr. Dan Boudreau officiating. Pauline Ferguson Passed on: February 4th, 2017 It is with heartfelt sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother and sister on Saturday, February 4, 2017, one day after celebrating her 84th birthday. Born in 1933, Pauline was a daughter of the late Xavier and Laura (Chaisson) Poirier. Besides her parents, Pauline was predeceased by her husband, James (Jim) Ferguson in 2015. She is also predeceased by her brothers, Albert, Henry, Johnnie, Gerry and sisters, Marg, Jay, Lorraine, Marie and Bea. Pauline is survived by her son, Jim (Jean); her daughter, Francine (Joe) Churney; her brother, Simon Poirier; and sisters, Kaye Viennaux and Madeline Cormier. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Shane (Kerrie) Ferguson, Erin (Greg) Arsenault, Chris (Marilyn) Churney, Karolyn (Travis) Humphrey and Brian (Shauna) Churney; her nine great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Together with her husband Jim, Pauline was the owner of Ferguson’s Dairy on Mansfield Street, Glace Bay for 30 years. As per her wishes, cremation has taken place under the direction of T.J. JASON ASHFORD Born In: NORTH SYDNEY, Nova Scotia Born: January 4th, 1973 Passed on: January 31st, 2017 It is with sadness that we announce the sudden passing of our dear son, husband, father, grandson, brother, uncle and friend, Jason Ashford, age 44, on Tuesday, January 31, 2017 in Alberta as a result of a motor vehicle accident. Born in North Sydney on January 4, 1973, he was the son of John “Jack” Ashford and the late Sharon Taylor. Jason had been living and working in Alberta for the past number of years and was a member of Local #92 Labourers Union. He is survived by his father, Jack Ashford (Darlene), North Sydney; by his wife, Lisa (Baker) Ashford, Leduc Alberta; his five children, Justin Campbell, Riley Wadden, J.T., Remi and Jade Ashford; by his two sisters, Laura Lee (Darren) Chisholm, Sydney Mines, Paula (Jon) Milne, Halifax; by his step brothers, Richard, Joey and step sister, Lee-Ann. Also surviving are his paternal grandmother, Gladys Ashford, North Sydney and several aunts, uncles and cousins. Besides his mother, Sharon, he was predeceased by a sister, Jacqueline. Born in Sydney on June 4, 1939, Betty was the daughter of Erma and John M. (Buck) Jones of South Bar. Betty was predeceased by her parents and her brother, Spencer Jones. Betty is survived by her sister, Mina (Willie, deceased), South Bar; brothers, Tom (Lou), South Bar, Kenny (Judy), Howie Center, Dennis (Pat), Kempt Head; sister-in-law, Phyllis, Ottawa and numerous nieces and nephews.
