Irene was born in Sydney, November 4, 1956 and was raised in Shenacadie. She was one of six children born to the late John Murdock and Mary Sarah (MacKinnon) MacNeil. As an adult, Irene continued to live in the family home with her mother Mary and sister Linda, who, together raised her daughter Jennifer and nephew Mark. Irene assisted in supporting her mother until she passed away in 2015; after which, Irene moved to Sydney. Irene loved reading, swimming and going for drives, she loved clothes and frequented Donna’s Consignment Shop and like most Cape Bretoners, she loved a good strong cup of tea. She will also be remembered for her creative talents including drawing, painting, crocheting and knitting; her last project, in honor of becoming a grandmother in August 2016, was a knitted baby blanket for her grandson Owen. Irene is survived by her daughter, Jennifer (Bill Hahn) MacNeil; grandson, Owen; sisters, Linda MacNeil, Maureen (Everett) Sullivan, and Anita MacNeil; sisters-in-law, Kim MacNeil and Heather MacNeil. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews; aunts, Theresa MacIntosh, Marie MacKinnon and Annie T. MacNeil. She was predeceased by brothers, Jackie and Gerald. Many family and friends may not know that Irene spent a lot of her life living with undiagnosed Schizophrenia. Once diagnosed, life became easier and more hopeful for Irene and her immediate family. We would like to thank Agnes Campbell and the staff of Cairdeil Place, Irene’s case worker Sandra Murray, the staff of Shimi Housing and Dr. Libbus at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital for all your dedicated help and support which helped Irene to become part of a caring and understanding community of friends for the past several years. Visitation will be held on Saturday, February 18, 2017, from 9 - 10:45 a.m. at T.W. Curry Parkview Chapel, Sydney. The funeral mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Theresa’s Church. A reception with a light lunch will be served at St. Theresa’s Parish Center immediately after the funeral mass. Burial will be in St. Barra’s Parish Cemetery, Christmas Island at a later date. Stephen Rodney Howarth Born: June 3rd, 1947 Passed in: Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada Passed on: February 14th, 2017 Stephen Rodney Howarth left this world on Tuesday February 14, 2017 at the QE11 in Halifax with his family by his side. Born in Yorkshire, England on June 3, 1947. Rodney came to Canada in 1986 and started his new life with Karen, Tracy and Tammie. He was a world traveller but loved Cape Breton best. Rodney drove long haul for various companies for 30 plus years, ending his career with 4 million miles and a perfect driving record. Rodney is survived and will be greatly missed by his wife, Karen; special daughters, Tracy (Keith), Tammie (Steven), Sara (Kyle); son, Stephen and brother, Peter (England). Rodney was also blessed with nine grandchildren, Daniel, Jacob, Joleigh, Aiden, Jessica, Shaye, Kira, Keegan and Ashton who loved Papa (Rod) very much. He is predeceased by his parents, Tommy and Doris Howarth of (England). Celebration of Rod's life will be Sunday, February 19, 2017 at T.J. DENISE MOULTON (HILLIER) Born In: NORTH SYDNEY Born: October 20th, 1964 Passed in: East Hants, Nova Scotia, Canada Passed on: February 14th, 2017 It is with sadness and heavy hearts we announce the passing of Denise Moulton, age 52, on Tuesday, February 14, 2017, after a courageous battle with cancer, at the Colchester East Hants Health Center, with her family by her side. Denise was a loving wife, daughter, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend to many. Above everything else, Denise was dedicated to her girls and her grandchildren. Born in North Sydney on October 20, 1964, Denise was the youngest daughter of Gordon and Margaret Hillier of North Sydney. Denise was a very hard worker and construction was her passion for the past 15 years. At the end of her career she was the project coordinator in the construction industry. Travel was another passion for Denise and Bob and they loved to travel to the warmer climates especially Palm Springs, which was their favorite. Denise found out about her cancer on October 24, 2016 and faced this with such strength and courage. She left peacefully on Valentine’s Day with her love by her side. Besides her parents Margaret and Gordon, Denise is survived by her husband, Bob, Enfield; her three daughters, Felicia (Matt), Jessica (Trent), Mary Frances (Robbie); her two grandchildren, Darian Austin and Theo Robert; two step-children, Kerri Anna and Ryan; her sisters, Cynthia Hillier (Denis Astephen), Karen (Gary) Hunt, Kim (Sandy MacInnis), Cheryl (Joe) Boudreau; her brother, Lloyd Hillier (Pam); two nephews, Trent and Jason; three nieces, Danielle, Lindsey and Kayla. Also surviving is her father and mother-in-law, Doug & Fran Moulton, Sydney and sister-in-law, Lori (Mark), Calgary and her good friend, Sharon Cochrane with whom she travelled to Paris and New York and had hoped to do more. She was predeceased by her paternal grandparents Josh and Jessie Hillier and maternal grandmother Margaret Haggerty. The family would like to thank the wonderful care given to Denise from Dawn Ross, Dr. Henderson, Dr. Courtney Smith and the Palliative Care Unit at the Colchester East Hants Health Center. There will be no visitation. A funeral mass for Denise will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Feb 23, 2017 at St. Joseph Church, North Sydney with Rev. Patrick O’Neill officiating. A reception will follow in the church basement. Funeral arrangements are under the care and direction of W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney.
