Louis ‘Louie’ McDonald Passed in: Glace Bay Passed on: February 3rd, 2017 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Louie McDonald, age 62 of Dominion on Friday, February 3, 2017 at the Glace Bay Hospital with his family by his side. Born in Glace Bay, he was the son of the late John and Catherine Elizabeth (Pinkston) McDonald. Louie worked for Devco for 24 years and also for System Care. He enjoyed fishing, playing darts and was an Oilers Fan. Louie was an all-round handyman. Louie is survived by his wife of 43 years, Carol Ann (Peori); sons, Louie Jr. (Melissa), Reserve Mines, Robert (Jennifer), Onslow, N.S.; sister, Laura (Brian); brothers, Billy (Verna, deceased), Danny (Juliette), Reggie; grandchildren, Julia, Olivia, Jake and Ryan who were his pride and joy. Beside his parents Louie was predeceased by his brother, John and one brother in infancy. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, February 7, 2017 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve Street, Glace Bay. A funeral service will be held in the funeral home chapel on Wednesday, February 8, 2017 at 11 a.m. with Rev Vernon Reid officiating. Ronald Joseph ‘Devil’ Canary Passed in: Glace Bay, Nova Scotia Passed on: February 3rd, 2017 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Ronald Joseph Canary, age 79 of Glace Bay, on Friday, February 3, 2017 at the Glace Bay Hospital with his family by his side. Born in Glace Bay, he was the son of the late James and Cecilia (Jessome) Canary. Ronald worked for Devco for 20 years as a coal miner. He also worked on the construction of the Lingan Power Plant, Hydro Plant in Wreck Cove, Heavy Water Plant and the reconstruction of the Fortress of Louisbourg. Devil enjoyed hockey, baseball and any sports in general. He was a member of Holy Cross Church and will be remembered as a hard worker. Ronald is survived by his son, Bernie (Sherry Hall), Brampton, Ontario. Besides his parents, Ronald was predeceased by his wife, Mary Redmond; sisters, Anna, Helen; brothers, Billy, Jimmy and Brian. Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held at 9 a.m. on Tuesday morning, February 7, 2017 followed by the funeral service at 10 a.m., all in V.J. Patrick J. ‘Patty’ Brezuk Passed in: Sydney, Nova Scotia Passed on: February 3rd, 2017 Patrick J. ‘Patty’ Brezuk, age 66, passed away on February 3, 2017 at Celtic Court, Sydney. Born in Sydney, he was the son of the late Thomas Dwyer and Helen Brezuk. Patty spent most of his life at the Breton Ability Centre where his quiet and gentle nature will be missed. He was a beautiful soul who will never be forgotten and forever loved and missed by his family. He is survived by his sisters, Helen Newell and Bernadette Dwyer (David Martin), both of Sydney, Linda (Blaine) Rafuse and Mary Dwyer, both of Halifax and Elizabeth (Randy) Campbell, Inverness; brothers, Thomas Dwyer, Glace Bay and Alex Brezuk, Sydney; as well as many nieces, nephews and extended family at Breton Ability Centre. Patty was predeceased by brother, Joseph Tramble and brother-in-law, Edgar Newell. Visitation will be held be held 2 p.m. until the time of the funeral service at 3 p.m. on Tuesday, February 7, both at T. W. Curry Parkview Chapel, Rev. Paul Murphy will officiate. Francis (Frank) Whitewood Passed in: Glace Bay, Nova Scotia Passed on: February 3rd, 2017 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Frank Whitewood on Friday, February 3, 2017, at the Glace Bay Hospital. Born in Glace Bay, he was the son of the late Margaret Whitewood Marshall. Frank loved Christmas very much and could be found decorating in early November. He was a kind and generous person who loved to cook for everyone. He is survived by his three step-daughters, Charmaine Pickup Madore, Joanne MacKinnon (Alex) and Eileen Pickup; son, Glenn Whitewood; four grandchildren, Wesley, Joe, Cecil and Kate; his lifelong friend, Danny Morris. Besides his mother he was predeceased by his wife, Mary Pickup Whitewood. There is no visitation by request. A funeral Mass will be celebrated 10 a.m. on Thursday, February 9 at St Anne’s Church, Glace Bay, with Fr Leo Boone officiating. The interment will be in the parish cemetery, at a later date. Birthman ‘Birt’ Joseph Grace Born In: New Waterford, Nova Scotia Born: May 21st, 1947 Passed on: February 2nd, 2017 It is with great sadness that we the family announce the passing of Birt Grace on February 2, 2017 surrounded by his loving family. Born on May 21, 1947, New Waterford, he was the son of Annie (Benoit) and the late Daniel Grace. Birt enjoyed playing horseshoes, hunting and fishing, as well as spending time around the hockey rink. He worked as a miner for 25 years in No. 12, Lingan and Phalen Mines. Birt is survived by his loving wife, Barbara (Steiger); mother, Annie; daughters, Brenda Lee (Trevor) Ropek, Sioux Lookout, Ont., Barbara Ann (David) MacMillan, Trenton, NS; sisters, Kay (Donnie) MacGillivary, Carmel (Jed) Miller, New Waterford and Jessie (Dave) Picco, Mira; brothers, Dan (Evelyn), Eddy (Betty), New Waterford and Raymond (Debi), Lingan Rd.; grandchildren, Gregory, Justin, Emily, Joshua, Benjamin and Nathan; brother-in-law, Kevin (Brenda) Steiger; sisters-in-law, Anna (Dave) Stephenson and Darlene Steiger, as well as many nieces and nephews.
